Terrance
I sat on the edge of the motel room bed, the flickering glow of the TV casting eerie shadows across the dimly lit room. The news anchor's voice droned on, but my attention was riveted to the breaking news banner scrolling across the bottom of the screen.
"Breaking News: Major Blackout in New York City. Cause Currently Unknown. Authorities Working to Restore Power."
The camera cut to chaotic scenes of a darkened New York City, streets illuminated only by the flashing lights of emergency vehicles. Crowds of people spilled into the streets, their faces lit by the glow of their smartphones as they tried to navigate the sudden darkness.
My heart pounded in my chest as I processed the information. A blackout of this magnitude would undoubtedly strain every resource in the city, diverting attention from anything not directly related to the crisis. This could be exactly the opportunity I needed.
