We drove to my place, finding comfort in the familiar surroundings after the chaos of the past few days. The evening sky was painted with hues of orange and pink, providing a serene contrast to the turmoil we had just faced. As we pulled into the driveway, Shayla squeezed my hand, her eyes reflecting the same mixture of exhaustion and gratitude that I felt.
We sat down on the couch, and I took out my phone to order some food. "What do you feel like eating?" I asked, scrolling through the options.
"Something comforting," she replied, leaning against me. "Maybe some Italian?"
I nodded, placed the order, and said, "Italian it is. It'll be here in about thirty minutes."
Shayla snuggled under my arm as we waited, resting her head on my chest. The warmth of her body against mine was soothing, and I felt a sense of peace washing over me. Despite everything that had happened, we were together, and that was all that mattered.
