"Any feedback from the family?" Paige asked, trying to change the topic. Getting emotionally attached to Clinton was something she didn't want to build, but he always seemed to make it difficult.
"Nothing yet," Clinton answered, "But I'm sure it's going to be positive. I know that look I saw in my mother's eyes."
Paige raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite herself. "What look?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
Clinton smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "The 'I'm impressed' look," he said. "My mother doesn't give it out easily, but when she does, it means she's thoroughly impressed."
Paige laughed, a throaty sound that surprised her. "And you think she's impressed with me?" she asked, her skepticism evident.
Clinton nodded, his expression serious. "I know she is, Paige. She sees something in you that she likes, something that reminds her of herself."
