As complex as politics may be, politicians are simple creatures at a very blunt level. Invariably, they want votes from the public and support from other politicians. To the general public some career politicians seem to be enemies to each other, but more often than not, what the public considers as 'enemy' or 'opponent' from the other party is actually beneficial to a politician. You cannot mobilize your supporters without having a so-called villain to fight against. Vilification is only possible when your opponent seemingly stands on the opposite end of the ideological spectrum. To your supporters, he is bad and you are good. To your opponent's supporters, he is good and you are bad.
