Chapter 38 - A perfect match

"Sister, this flower crown is for you." A little florist girl came to give Kifayat flowers.

"It's free, right?"

The little florist girl nodded enthusiasticly.

Kifayat stiffly took the flowers crown again.

"Not again. This is already the 7 th time. Once is happenstance , Twice can be called a coincidence, but the third time is a pattern. It already happened seven times."

"Absolutely, someone is deliberately messing with us." Saba shouted but thinking of the incident it can't be called messing with them. So she changed her words again. "Someone is deliberately helping us out."

"We all know that."

"But what's happening here actually?"

In order to understand the matter let's go back two hours ago. After coming out of the tea stall Kifayat and her friends excitedly embarked on their much-anticipated campus tour. The university, renowned for its architectural masterpiece, highly impressive example of the European-Mughal style of building and historic landmarks, a treasure trove of knowledge and mystery.

Kifayat remembered one of her teachers who was also an A University graduate told her, that "Even if you just walk through the corridor of this university, knowledge will shower upon you."

This sentence alone can explain the beautiful sentiment that suggests the very atmosphere of the university is enriched with knowledge.

Because the University is very big, Kifayat used the Google map and with the help of the nearby students, Kifayat led the group to one famous location to another. The library with its towering shelves of books, is the biggest library in the country, the serene lake reflecting the sky, and the museum that had recorded countless historical event, the mosque, the temple---all were more enchanting than she had imagined.

But the more time passed, the more strange Kifayat felt. Kifayat noticed some peculiar incidents. Near the ancient building, a little boy who was selling flowers came to her to give Flowers. When Kifayat was about to give her the money for the flower, the boy said, "You don't have to pay. It's free for today."

Kifayat was surprised. "Looks like we are lucky today. I have got flowers for free." But it happened again at the library,

At the library, an elderly gentleman handed her a pretty bookmark, insisting it was a gift for a "special visitor." At the lake, a cheerful vendor offered her a box of gourmet chocolates, refusing any payment. Another time a street jeweller gave her a beautiful handmade bracelet for free. Not only her but to all of them.

With each encounter Kifayat became more and more curious. Why were these strangers treating her with such unexpected generosity? Was it a university tradition she wasn't aware of, but how could there be strange tradition like giving away things for free.

Kifayat now somehow sure that someone is behind all of these. And most certainly that someone should be the one who was sending her letters anonymously. But how would he know that I am here?

It must be the tea boy.(Kifayat didn't know the name boy's name Rafi. So called him tea boy:)

Cyra asked Kifayat, "Should we ask that boy again?"

Saba also joined, "Yes let's go and interrogate that boy. If he doesn't co operate then he has to feel my fist." (Rafi suddenly felt a cold behind his back.)

"Don't talk so violent everytime. This is not our home land. If you cause any trouble we can't get out." While Kifayat was reprimanding Saba, Lia suddenly fell down. All their attention shifted towards her.

"What is wrong? Are you alright, Lia?" Saba and Kifayat anxiously pulled Lia and removed the dust from her dress. Then they noticed she was still in a daze. "Lia??"

Lia suddenly screamed, making them frightened. "WOW ,it's so romantic!!!"

"Huh?!"

"Kifayat, it's so romantic right. Someone secretly admiring you from afar and giving you free gifts just to catch your attention. This things only happens in novels." Seeing Lia giggling so hard, Kifayat was speechless.

"Listen Lia, this is not romantic at all. Just think about it, what if the person who was following you, have bad intentions. You should be careful about this type of things in the future. Don't fall for such petty tricks."

Pfft! Someone nearby laughed out loud. Kifayat looked at the direction of the sound and saw a group of friends were chatting and laughing.

"But one thing you said was right. Someone must have been secretly following us. So if we pay attention to our surroundings..." Kifayat slowly walked towards the group of boys who were laughing.

"Excuse me," Arbaz became stiff in an instant. But soon composed himself and looked back, "Anything?"

"You have dropped your cap."

"But it's not mine. Does this cap belongs to any one of you?" Arbaz looked at the direction of his friends asking about it. All of them denied.

"Sorry, then I must have made a mistake."

"It's okay."

Saba asked Kifayat, confused, "Why did you lie about the cap?" The cap belongs to Asif.

Kifayat approached them thinking that they were laughing because of her. "What if he is one of these people?"

Kifayat just wanted to see their faces but unfortunately all of them wearing masks. They were also very natural in front of her like they were meeting her for the first time.

Besides she doesn't have any proof to accuse anyone. She can only let go of her suspicion for now.

"Nothing, let's go."

On the other hand, Arbaz and his friends breathed a sigh of relief. "Your girlfriend is too scary!! I thought we were caught."

"It's not you fault. Who told you to laugh out loud."

"Isn't it because of your girl friend's weird brain structure. How can She turn such a romantic story to a horror story!."

"What is wrong with what she said. It's good to be wary of strangers. Let's not follow her anymore. What if she gets scared?"

Arbaz felt a lot of guilt in his heart. How come he didn't think of this matter before. He was just excited to see her and giving her gifts that he totally forgot about how she would feel.

Seeing Arbaz so remorseful, his friends sighed. "I was wrong before. They are both equally weird. A perfect match!"
