Chapter 15 - Years Later

Again the young woman with unkempt hair and tattered clothes screamed at the top of her lungs while throwing broken chair and table pieces at the door. Hour after hour passed as she yelled at the top of her lungs until exhaustion finally overcame her. She collapsed onto the floor amidst the debris of broken chairs and table pieces and slept.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the firmly closed door, a child no older than five sat huddled in a corner. With an expressionless face, he hugged his knees close to his chest, his eyes vacant of emotion as he hummed a haunting melody. In the finally silent room, only the sound of humming could be heard.

"Erin" A voice called out as the boy stopped humming and looked up. There was nothing or no one around him yet he couldn't help but be intrigued by where the voice was coming from. Slowly the once-shut door cracked open and again, the boy heard the voice.

"Erin"

The boy stood up slowly and started walking to the door, looking inside he saw nothing. It was pitch black on the other side but he couldn't help but be even more intrigued. Finally, after a few minutes of staring at the other side, the boy walked through the door.

Erin woke up as his alarm went off. Picking up his phone, he turned off the alarm and sat up on his bed.

"Fuck, I hate mornings…." He said while rubbing his eyes. He sat in the silence of his room which didn't last long as Sean burst into his room.

"Oh, you're up.." Sean said while putting his hands behind his back. Erin turned towards him and eyed him warily.

"What are you hiding old man," Erin asked to which Sean just shrugged.

"Hiding? I came up here to wake my son up for old time sakes" Sean rebuttled to which Erin looked at him deadpanned.

Erin sighed and started getting out of bed, ignoring his dad, who was still standing by the door.

"Are you going to keep standing there or are you going to help me get dressed 'for old times sake'." Erin looked over at him sarcastically as Sean rolled his eyes and backed up out of Erin's room.

~Erin POV~

I watched as my dad backed out of my room annoyed.

'He doesn't let up now does he'

My dad- a legend in the Tennis world who is also a household name.

'Fuck every single title and reputation he has, this old man just loves to pull pranks on his son.'

I thought to myself as I started stretching for a while before walking towards the bathroom to get ready.

After the shower, I stood in front of my mirror and stared at my reflection.

My white hair was wet from just coming out of the shower. I ran my fingers through my hair pushing it out of my face and looked right into my heterochromatic eyes. A light grey left eye and a blueish-green right eye.

'It's your fault, everything is your fault....'

I shook my head at the small memory that decided to appear out of nowhere and examined my body.

I'm not malnourished anymore and even had a growth spurt a few months back. Now I'm standing at 5'9" with a lean and athletic body.

'WHY COULDN'T YOU JUST BE NORMAL…..'

I flinched slightly as the words rang through my head.

'How many more times is this going to happen.'

Mom…..

I looked back at my eyes and hair and tried to remember the now blurry images of my mother.

Even though every single thing she had said to me stays in my head 24/7 I can't seem to remember what she looked like at all. The most I can point out was her jet-black hair and nothing else.

Slowly I touched my face moving my fingers across my eyes and tugged on some hair strands.

"If I had black hair and the same eye color just like yours would you still have left me mother…" I muttered while staring at myself in the mirror. I stood there for what felt like ages before a heard a knock on the door.

I flinched slightly as my mother's image slowly faded away.

"Kiddo did you slip and fall in the shower or what?" My dad said as I removed my hand from my face and sighed.

*****

After a very annoying morning, I finally finished getting ready and walked downstairs towards the living room,

"Well look who finally decided to come downstairs." Dad walked out of the kitchen wearing. A Hello Kitty apron.

"Are you a housewife now?." I looked him up and down. "It's kind of sad roleplaying as a housewife when you're a single dad." I chuckled while his eye twitched and looked at me annoyed.

He seemed like he was about to say something but then stopped and then just smiled.

'He's up to something. Fuck Erin why did you have to say something…'

"Come get your breakfast before you head off to school ok my adorable lovely boy" He said all of that with a straight face.

It was just silent for a while as I cringed at what he had just said. I was trying to find the right words but couldn't so I just walked right past him and walked into the kitchen.

'I don't ever want to hear that shit again' I thought to myself as I tried to erase what had just happened.
