"Fuck my life..." Ren groaned in complaint under his breathe as he walked to school, 'Nope, I can't do this' He gave up as he stood at a bus stop and waited for a bus that would go to UA.
Arriving at school, Ren dragged himself to homeroom as he felt his legs getting better, slowly but surely.
"Mornin' boys" Ren greeted as he sat in his seat, being the last to arrive in homeroom - excluding Aizawa.
"Yo, Ren!" Kirishima rocked on his chair as he leant on Ren's desk, "Mind helping me with my training after school?"
"Sure..." Ren replied before he slightly widened his eyes as he remembered something, "Ah, not today though, I've gotta do something" He added.
"That's fine, bro! I've got Bakugo to help me today after school anyway, so that's fine" Kirishima smiled as he sat properly at his desk once Aizawa opened the door.
The day went by fast with the class talking about how they're preparing for the festival, normal lessons- Actually, due to the sports festival coming up, the hero course students don't have an extra period for the whole 2 weeks so they finished at the same time as the other students (School finishes 3:10pm, but hero course students have an extra period that finishes at 4:10pm)
Ren had already told the third years at lunch today that he wouldn't be going gym with them today as he had plans, so he didn't hesitate to go into the school toilets and change into some casual clothes as he put his school uniform in his bag.
'Let's see, where is it...' He was walking around Musutafu as he looked at a map on his phone, 'It should be around... ah! Here it is-' After taking a final turn, he had arrived in front of a small dojo that looked quite worn out, 'Eh?'
He looked back down at the images on his phone, looked back up, then looked down again to make sure his eyes worked, 'Is this the right place...?' He was sceptical as the images on his phone that made the dojo look 10/10 was not at all what it looked like in front of him.
'Oh well' He shrugged as he put his phone in his pocket, 'May as well check it out at least' He said as he pushed the door open to see the dojo floors and walls being dusty and dirty all over.
'What the...' Ren was shocked to see an old man laying in the middle of the dojo on his stomach, which didn't paint a good image, "Hey, are you alright?!" He rushed to check on the old man and rolled him over just to realise he was snoring.
'Woah...' Ignoring the empty bottles of beer and alcohol around the old man, Ren gasped as he was surprised to see the old man with a lot of scars in the shape on an 'X' all over his singular arm that he had, as well as one on his chin. He was also very muscular which made Ren feel quite little in comparison even though his body was also good.
"Mmm~..." The old man groaned in his sleep, probably in reaction to Ren's shout prior.
Ren put his hands on the old man, about to shake him awake when suddenly the door to the dojo was slammed open which caused him to turn around to see a good-looking man with dark brown hair and a relatively tall build.
"Grandpa!" The man shouted as he saw his 'grandpa' laying on the floor beside an unfamiliar person.
"Wai-!" Not wanting the man to misunderstand, Ren hurriedly flailed his arms about to show he was harmless.
Unfortunately, it was too late as he saw the man disappear and re-appear in front of him, leaving an afterimage behind him.
'Fast!' Ren's eyes widened in shock as the man, who looked only a few years older than him, appeared right in front of him with a serious face.
Not saying anything, the man went for a quick and strong kick towards Ren's temple, but not before it stopped a few centimetres away from him.
"Who are you!?" The man asked with a glare, causing Ren to sweat in both fear and excitement.
'This guy... I wasn't even able to activate infinity in time and he did all that in a split second...!' Ren began to shake in excitement before he smiled.
"Why're you lau-" The man was confused and pissed, but was surprised to hear Ren's next words of
"Please teach me!"
"Eh?" The man tilted his head, keeping his leg still.
.
.
.
"Ha ha ha ha!" The old man, who was previously asleep on the floor after drinking, bellowed as he clapped his stomach in laughter, "So you found me asleep and my grandson Mori thought you were an intruder, that's pretty funny!" The old man pat Mori's back strongly, much to his frustration.
"Yeah yeah, how funny" Mori said sarcastically as he swatted his grandpa's hand away before turning to Ren who sat opposite them, "So, whaddya want?" He asked bluntly.
"Please, teach me martial arts!" Ren asked as he went in a dogeza position to show his respect, "That's what you teach here... right?" He asked as he peeked up a little to make sure.
This caused Mori and his grandpa to look at each other for a few seconds before turning back to Ren.
"Have you seen this place, kid?" Mori's grandpa asked, "Why would you wanna learn martial arts here?"
"Well, I was sceptical at first, to be honest with you" Ren replied as he sat back up, "But when I saw his-" Pointing to Mori "-Movement and kick, it was really cool!" He said with stars in his eyes, "Actually, why does this dojo look so different to the images online?" He asked, still confused at that.
"Those photos were taken like a century ago, before quirks came about!" Mori's grandpa answered, "My great-great-grandpa was the one who created this dojo, it's pretty much a family heirloom more than anything.
The reason it's so run-down now is because no one comes here anymore. After quirks came out, people were more focused on training that rather than learning martial arts. You rarely see anyone use any actual martial arts nowadays" He finished.
"I see I see" Ren nodded as he understood his explanation, "So...?" He looked at Mori and his grandpa with pleading eyes, "Can I learn...?"
Mori and his grandpa looked at each other once more as they moved their eyes in a telepathic manner, "We'll be giving you a test first, how about it?" Mori sighed.
"Great!" Ren jumped up in excitement, "What do I need to do?" He asked as Mori and his grandpa kicked up off of the floor smoothly.
"First, we'll be testing your flexibility quickly" Mori's grandpa stated, "Raise your leg up as high as you can without bending it. Then try and do the splits"
Ren did what he said and only raised his leg about halfway before having to bend it. Then he attempted to do the splits and was not able to do it.
"Okay, so we'd need to train your flexibility, that's for sure..." He muttered, "Ah, Mori! Could you make some tea?" He asked, to which Mori nodded before going into another room to make the tea.
"Now we'll test your leg strength" He lifted his shirt to reveal his dad-belly, "Kick me" He said bluntly.
"...Alright" Ren stood to the old man's side, "Oh, right... what do I call you?" He asked.
"Call me Taejin, named after my great-gramps" He answered, "Now get to kicking, boy"
"O-kay!" Ren replied as he did his strongest kick to Taejin's stomach, "Ow..." He winced a little as he pulled his leg back, the pain of leg day came back after that kick.
"Not bad, but we'll have to work on your strength as well" Taejin walked it off like it was nothing but a tickle.
"Does that mean you'll teach me...?" Ren asked for clarification, not clear if he was taken in or not.
"Sure, why not? It seems fun..." Taejin laughed, before an ominous and sinister smile appeared on his face, "Make sure you don't regret it though"
"..." A shiver went down Ren's spine.
.
.
.
"Good session today, kiddo!" Taejin waved as Ren walked away from the dojo with a lot of bruises and a bit of dry blood.
'Good session...?' Ren's eyes showed a lot of trauma, 'That was torture...' He shivered remembering the training.
He had received both Taejin's and Mori's numbers and learnt quite a bit about them. First of all, Taejin was a retired quirkless hero who used his strong martial arts (Taekwondo) to defeat villains.
Second of all, Mori was a hero currently, and was only 4 years older than him and graduated from UA. He's known as 'The Monkey Hero: Sun Wukong' and uses both taekwondo and his quirk which allows him to grow things in length and size. He uses that quirk to grow his staff - the weapon he uses - to defeat villains.
Third of all, Taejin's great-grandpa was also called Taejin, which makes him a junior. And Mori was named after his great-grandpa's grandson a.k.a. his grandpa: Jin Mori.
And so, after becoming their student, Ren had spent the first week going gym with the third years, training with some others in his class occasionally, and learning taekwondo from Taejin and Mori.
During the first week, after getting a better understanding of taekwondo, Taejin suggested a dojo that taught both Wing Chun and Muay Thai to Ren. So he went to that dojo and learnt those martial arts as well.
Once he got to a good enough understanding of all 3 martial arts, he had unlocked a new eye much to his joy.
[Condition met: Learn 3 Martial arts]
[Eyes of Ares: Increases the understanding and talent of learning martial arts/fighting styles]
And so, the first week of preparing for the sports festival was done. There was only one week left until the festival!

A/N: Decided to speed up a little so that this pre-sports festival mini arc doesn't take too long (And to not just add irrelevant events), but it won't be too rushed don't worry.
