Elmo wasn't sure what he should do, but he was sure that he needed to get out of the room. Yet, as he made his way to the door, he couldn't even get it to move a fraction of an inch. Even with Kim coming up to try and help. Though, they had to move a few of the people who'd fainted from the most recent burst cask.
"Any ideas?" Kim asked, looking around.
Elmo was sure she wasn't asking because she respected his opinion, but probably more because she was running out of ideas. Elin was checking those who'd fallen unconscious, which Elmo assumed was because she was looking to be as helpful as she could, in whatever way she could.
Elmo briefly ran a mental check on his list of spells that he had, trying to think of what he might be able to use. Some were good options, but like Brimstone Fire, he didn't want to create more problems while trying to solve a smaller one, that could easily contribute to the overall problem and danger that they were currently in.
Elmo felt a tug on his sleeve and turned to look behind him to find Samantha looking at him with an almost panicked expression. "Please, help my brother," she pleaded, pointing in the distance where Elmo could see Lance working at trying to put the fire out with tossing water on it, which had no effect, not that Elmo was surprised.
"I'm trying to get the door open," Elmo replied. "Once we do that we can all get out of here."
"But my home…" Samantha whimpered, looking around her.
Elmo suddenly understood what she was really asking. This may be a mansion and extravagant opulence to Elmo, but to Samantha, this was he home. Where she was supposed to feel safe. Where she felt anchored in a world that tossed and turned like a ship in a storm at sea.
Which meant she wasn't asking his to help her brother himself, but rather what he was attempting to do. Which was to put out the fires. Not that Elmo had any spells that would realistically help with that. Maybe if he had the shield spell that mimicked his wind shield spell, but he doubted that it would work like that.
Elmo merely shook his head. "Sorry, all I can do is create an exit so we can get your guests out of here. Once we have that done, I'll do what I can to save your home, but that might not be possible," he said as gently as he could.
While Samantha didn't say anything, it was clear she wasn't happy with his response. She merely looked around, like she was searching for anything that could help. Not that Elmo blamed her.
Elmo put her out of his mind for the moment, determined to create an egress for them to get people out, even if the building had to be sacrificed. While he felt for the girl, he knew the building could always be rebuilt. He didn't think that even Heather with her Healer system could bring people back from the dead..
"Dark Impact," Elmo said, focusing solely on the door.
Dark purple energy gathered around the door before the door splintered as chunks of it went flying into the darkness past it. Elmo hadn't expected that kind of result. All he'd wanted was just to get the doors open. Although, he had to admit, they were open now. Just in several more pieces than he'd expected.
Elmo turned to Samantha to accompany her to see what he could do to help with putting the fires out. If he could before they spread too far, at least. He took one step and he heard the twang of a string and a moment later an arrow appeared in Samantha's chest. The impact throwing her off her feet, her eyes wide with shock.
"Elin!" Elmo screamed, his eyes wide with horror as he rushed to Samantha's side.
"I'll take care of whoever did this," Kim promised with a growl as she ran into the darkness, on the other side of the doors.
Elmo put his hand around the arrow sticking out of Samantha's chest as he tried in vain to stop the flow of blood. He felt his breathing starting to come in shorter and shorter gasps. There shouldn't be a reason for this to happen. She was just a child and looking forward to the rest of her life.
Elmo looked around him helplessly, not sure what else he could do. Then before he knew it, Elin was by his side, her attention focused entirely on Samantha. It felt like she appeared out of thin air.
Elin pushed Elmo's hand away from Samantha's chest and he sat there unsure what to do, but jumped when she spoke to him.
"Get me a blanket. Now!" she snapped, startling Elmo out of the haze his mind had descended into.
Elmo nodded, but he had no idea where to find a blanket at all in this room. Still, it was at least something that he could do to get the image of Samantha having an arrow protruding out of her chest.
As he wandered around the room, searching for anything that could be a blanket or used in lieu of one, as Elmo doubted that Elin wanted it for the typical reason blankets were used. He scanned the room, but at first he didn't see anything that could be used. Until he closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath.
He wouldn't be able to help anyone when he was like that. Too wrapped up in the horror of the moment to actually help resolve the horror and turn it into a better ending. Even if it wasn't a happy ending, it would at least be better than it would otherwise be. As in if Elin was able to do her thing, then Elmo knew Samantha would at least survive.
As he opened his eyes, he saw a curtain by a window, tied so it wouldn't impede seeing through the window or, during the day, allow light to shine through. While it was bigger than what they'd need, it was at least the best option he'd come across so far.
The next problem was how to get it down. While he could try to tug it down, he wasn't sure if that might cause other problems. Though, with how high it was, climbing it wasn't an option either. Especially since he couldn't think how to get it off whatever was holding it up if his own weight was helping hold it in place.
Yet, at the same time, he couldn't waste time just standing there not trying anything at all. He couldn't say if Samantha's life was in danger when she had been hit with the arrow, but he was sure that the longer he took, the less chance he felt that she would have once Elin was able to provide her with the privacy necessary to really deal with the arrow.
Not that Elmo had any idea what Elin planned on doing. He had a feeling that he probably wasn't going to like to see it regardless. As long as Samantha survived this, that was good enough for him.
Elmo gave a brief try to pull the curtain straight down, not that he expeccted it to work. It was more to make sure it wouldn't be that easy. When it didn't work after a moment, he tried using the curtain to try and jostle it off of either the curtain rod or to dislodge the curtain rod so it would fall.
Elmo made two attempts at it before he sensed someone next to him. He glanced to his side just to make sure it wasn't a threat. What he saw was Lance looking at Elmo with a confused expression on his face.
"What are you doing?" he asked, shifting his gaze to the curtain Elmo was trying to dislodge.
Elmo didn't reply, he just noticed the sword at Lance's hip. He then looked back at the curtain as an idea formed in his mind. He didn't really need the entire curtain. Just a large enough piece to give Samantha the privacy she'd need so Elin could take care of the arrow.
"Would you use your sword to cut the curtain?" Elmo asked. "I need it to give Sama- Lady Samantha some privacy." Elmo almost forgot to use the title 'Lady' with Lance's sister. He wasn't sure if there'd be any backlash if he had, but at the moment he didn't want to waste time on something that was so pointless to him.
"Why would Samantha need privacy?" Lance asked as he drew his sword.
Then as he used the blade to slice through the fabric, Elmo merely replied, "So Elin can deal with the arrow in her chest."
"Arrow?" Lance demanded, his face clouding over in rage. "Someone hurt her?"
"Kim went to deal with whoever did it as they were in the dark hallway past the entrance to this room and Elin sent me to get a blanket for her," Elmo replied as he gathered up the curtain when it was fully separated from the rest of the curtain. "I assumed it's to give Lady Samantha privacy while she deals with the arrow."
Elmo turned to look at Lance, only to find Lance was already halfway across the room towards the entrance, frantically searching for something and Elmo was quite sure it was his sister.
Elmo sighed as he started carrying the curtain, careful to keep it away from the flames that seemed to spread in certain areas, but was dying down in others.
When Elmo reached Elin, he saw Lance holding Samantha's hand, tears streaming down both of their faces, while Elin was clearly checking Samantha for something that Elmo accepted he probably wouldn't understand without it being explained.
Which he was fine not having it explained at the moment. If it was explained then that would mean it would take up time that could be used to help Samantha.
As Elmo came up by Elin, he carefully placed the curtain over Samantha. Elin jumped, clearly startled. A moment later she looked at Elmo.
"Okay, wrap it around me and Samantha," she directed, then glanced at Lance. "Oh, you can leave her hand out so she can keep contact with her brother."
Elmo nodded as he did what Elin told him to do. Though, he was careful to not look inside. If he did, he was sure that even if Lance didn't kill him on the spot, Kim certainly would.
