Chapter 9 - A beautiful cat

Around midnight, Carrissa was woken up by a tap on the balcony door. Her eyes blinked continuously as she was in a half-awaken state. She delicately rubbed her beautiful eyes, she fell asleep on the couch on the balcony and she felt her neck hurt when she woke up.

Thankfully there were no insects outside thus she was only suffering from cold weather and a rigid body.

She stared at the door and thought that Auric had finally opted to open the door. She scoffed and stretched her body. "Has he finally seen that what he did was wrong?" She queried no one in particular.

She walked towards the door and saw that the door was still closed. She furrowed, if he had not opened the door then who tapped on the door?

The cold wind drew back her hair and danced gracefully with it.

She scanned through the large and long balcony but couldn't see anyone. Just as she was about to return and rest on her makeshift bed she felt something furry on her legs.

With a snap, she looked down. For a while, she kept on blinking till her eyes told her it was enough. On the floor was the most beautiful cat. It was snow white with pink eyes making it look like a cypress vine in a snowy landscape. Its size was moderate; not too fat or too slim and it smelt unique. Like the scent of earth after rainfall.

Quite alluring.

Mesmerized by the beauty of the cat, Carrissa bent down to pet it, upon doing that a surprising situation occurred. Her eyes turned completely white the pink eyes of the cat kept on turning a deeper shade of pink.

"What do you think you are doing?" A masculine voice was heard from the king of the land, Auric, he had his hands in his pockets and had an exasperated look on his face.

The cat's eyes returned to their normal stage but Carrissa was still the same, seemingly in a trance. The cat did something unusual, it...smiled.

Are cats able to smile?

Looking at the cat disappearing in the fog, Auric shook his head and left, ignoring the human who was still bent.

Helios came around with his fiery carriage and the whole of Egriel arose to do their daily activities. Well, I'm speaking about the Greek God, not the Lyxancliffs butler. Meanwhile, back in the palace, Carrissa was still in that position but immediately the sun rays touched her skin, and she snapped out of that deep trance she was in. The gravitational forces around pushed her down, making her sit on her butt.

A soft cry resounded and she opened her eyes to scan her surroundings. Her facial expression explicitly stipulated shock.

"How did I get here?" was the exact question running through her mind but unfortunately, her mind had been wiped clean of that night's event.

She rushed in and took a hot bath. She felt uneasy as she bathed, even in the process of adorning and honouring jewels and clothes on her pale white skin, after this, she went down for breakfast.

All the servants exclaimed inwardly as she descended the stairs, she was too beautiful. Their King was really lucky. The pair deserved each other but they were a bit worried about her behaviour. Rumour had it that she never bowed her head to anyone. Not even death.

When she got to the dining area, she saw him, her husband and his right-hand man, Odin. The latter smiled and welcomed her to her seat which was at the left side of Auric who sat at the head of the table, while the former was as cold as ice. She greeted them with a small bow of the head and that also made the surrounding servant exclaim again.

How dare she!? To the Egrielians, they were taught that their king was god and he ruled supreme and to Auric, they held him higher than a god. He had upped the economy of the Kingdom.

The poorest person in the kingdom could afford three meals a day and this was more than enough for them.

Even though she was the Queen, she was to show respect to Auric since he was the King and since she didn't do that, they were sure that she would be punished.

But to their utmost shock, the King also ignored her and she sat down to dine.

After a while, Auric left the hall with his right-hand man and a few minutes later, Carrissa followed.

Their thanks interactions sparked rumours among the maids which were to spread out soon.
