Chereads / Warcaster Of Misfortune / Chapter 13 - Magic!

Chapter 13 - Magic!

A bit of conversation passed and Warlic was taking me somewhere to start my training. Warlic said that my training would involve me going to the other side of the tower with all the monsters and stuff and fighting them. But I have no means of fighting them. As a level 1 I was the weakest I could be. But I had some stats in intelligence and wisdom which made me more suited to magic than melee combat so Warlic is going to teach me some magic.

We entered some sort of storage room. Well there are a lot of them in this tower. I didn't try to open many of them after the first one....

"So what do I do now" I asked kinda confused.

"Wait. I have to get out the proper tools for you."

I see, now Crysero had left already to do something that involves the mobs in his side of the tower.

Apparently he was weakening them for me which was nice but since it concerns a madman.....I'm worried.

"Ah! Here it is."

Warlic had a bracelet in his hand. It was old, rusty and had some writing on it. He handed it to me to wear. After I placed it over my right hand he started talking.

"That bracelet is a ancient tool used when magic was still....well more immature and...more destructive."

I don't like the sound of that. Why can't everything be peaceful?

"It is used to restrict the wearer by absorbing mana from the body whenever you use a spell. You can say this was also used as punishment for ones that abuse their powers."

Eh....the training device was used as punishment as well?

"Well it doesn't do much but restrict the amount of mana you can use while casting a spell so don't worry."

I DO worry! Why am I wearing something that was used as a punishment device?!

"Furthermore I don't want you to destroy or damage this tower too much."

Ah...so that's the real reason.

"Now for the actual explanation."

Wait the thing before wasn't the explanation?

"There are two types of mages. The first is the typical stereotype which is the wizard type. They employ powerful magic that wipe out the entire battlefield but they also take a lot of time to cast and need other people to protect them while casting."

I see...sounds very boring. Staying behind everyone and finishing everything up in one go like a garbage collector.

"The second type is the battle type. While not having as much power as the wizard type, they are much more flexible in combat. They deploy countless small spells in battle to take control of the situation. They are less common since they require more physical ability than most mages would like."

This class sounds exciting but only having weak spells sounds restrictive. But I can see the lure for some people to run around spamming their spells without worry.

"Now you fall under none of these types since you can't use magic. Yet."

Yeah thanks...

"Before we decide on your type we need to work on your basics. In short controlling magic."

I see.

"So how are we going to do this Warlic?" Is he going to make me go through hell or something?

"Simple. We start small and work our way up. One step at a time."

Wow...that is boring. But its better than Hell training.

"Of course Hell training will be prepared if you fail. Now I'm going to teach you the most basic of the basics now. First focus on making a ball in your hand where the bracelet is."

Wait what? How am I suppose to do that?! I don't want hell training.

"The bracelet serves to amplify your abilities in focusing so people without talent can train at the same pace."

So I'm one of the talentless ones. Anyway time to focus. A ball in my hand. A ball in my hand. A ball in my hand.

A ball of light sort of appeared then disappeared in my hand. After seeing it Warlic commented with, "Good! At least you can do that. I have to help Crysero...no check on him for a bit so keep on doing that. Remember the more practice you have the easier it will be later."

With that Warlic left me to work on my own.

After 2 hours of doing the same thing over and over again. I noticed a couple of things. I gained the stat concentration.

Concentration

The ability to focus on a task. As this stat increase, it becomes easier to do certain actions without being distracted. Increases the speed of casting magic and success rate of spells.

The second thing was that I gained magic mastery.

Magic mastery Beginner Level 1(3%)

The ability to manipulate mana. It serves to increase the ability to cast and learn magic of all kinds.

Increase casting speed by 3%

Increase magic strength by 10%

And the third thing was making these balls of light was getting easier as I go. Now I think about it, how long has it been since I been back at the good old sleeping sheep centre? Is Dan worried? No, rag probably informed him already. Now back to training or I get Hell training.

"Eden I'm back...."

Warlic appeared again after another 2 hours and he was burnt? His longish white hair was turned black and his blue robes were also the colour black now.

"What the hell happened there?" I asked suddenly due to his appearance.

"Don't ask." So it was that bad eh. You have it rough.

Warlic frowned at the memory of something happening. It was probably Crysero's fault. But on another note what do I do now? I can make this ball of light appear pretty easily now.

"It looks like you got the basic down."

Yeah I noticed that as well. Oh, I have to inform him about the other things I gained as well.

"Yeah I even gained the concentration stat and the skill magic mastery."

Warlic looked confused. He asked, "What are these things you're talking about?"

Eh? He doesn't know?

"Umm.....its the things you gain after using magic for a bit."

I really have no idea how I got these things. They just appeared out of nowhere.

"I see....but I still don't get it. How do these things appear. What effects does it have on you. And so on."

"Well say open status window first..."

I think that was first thing you learn since it was the basic of the basic.

"Open Status Window!"

After Warlic said that he had a couple of expressions passing through his face. Shock, interest, understanding and confusion.

"What is this window that I see with my name on it?"

Ah so it worked for him.

"It tells you your stats."

"I see....can you see this thing hovering in front of me?"

Not at all. Is there a way to?

"Not unless you share it with me."

"How do I do that?"

…....I really have no idea. Maybe say share with Eden or allow access to status window or something?

Warlic tried a couple of phases and eventually he got his status window to appear for me.

What the fuck...seriously...I.....no. I have so much to say about this....

"Warlic your stats seems so weird..."

Man if I take a screenshot of this and post it on the internet...no, people will thing I'm trolling them.

"Yeah I know. How come there's so many N/A for my stats?"

I'm more concerned about why your level is considered maximum. Are you at the point where you can't get stronger or something is stopping you form levelling?

"I think its because your not suppose to be in this world and so it doesn't know what to do with your stats."

That was the best explanation I had.

"That makes sense but what is this unknown stat?"

How would I know? It says Unknown does it not.

"No idea. Something we can't comprehend perhaps?"

Another one of my small theories.

"Well what does your one look like?"

So he wants to compare his one with mind. Well I don't exactly mind but he may get the wrong impression if I do. I opened my status window which was very very pale in comparison with Warlic's to show it to him.

"This looks very plain. Except that you have more intelligence and wisdom."

I know. I've done nothing but read for 3 weeks. Don't blame me. I was lazy.

"Well now we have to get back with the training. Now I want you to move the ball around."

Great how am I suppose to do that. Imagine it. I better try at least.

I focused on creating the ball first before anything else. After I thought the ball of light was stabilised, I imagined it moving around my hand. Not much happened. The ball of light flickered but stayed at the exact same position.

"Its not working."

"True. Focus some more. It will eventually move."

"When?"

"The moment you can focus enough to move it."

Warlic left to do stuff. And so the second phrase of the training begun. It was even more boring than the first. But with this I could potentially train my concentration stat and magic mastery at the same time. But the problem was moving the damn light ball in my hand. It just won't move. In my rage and impatient I threw my hand to the wall.

Bang

What? Why is the wall damaged. Did I do that? Oh shit. Warlic is going to kill me....or maybe he isn't. My training is progressing due to that and he might prai-

"What was that Eden?! What was that loud noi-"

The two of us stayed silence for a bit. Warlic sighed, pointed his staff to the wall and it fixed itself.

"How did you do that?"

A wall fixing spell would be very useful I imagine.

"Simple magic that involves turning back time."

That's not simple at all. I still remember how you manipulated time and space at the same time. God damnit. Why is he that powerful?

"It looks like you have made some progress in the training. Keep it up. I still need to adjust the monsters for you. Making them significantly weaker is quite difficult."

I get it. I'm weak. Now let me torment myself in peace Warlic. God I hope Crysero doesn't come over.

"Did someone think about me?~"

God damnit. This can't any worse.

"Hey Hey what are you doing with the basics of magic?~"

And it just did.

"I'm trying to make the ball of light move. But I have no idea how to do it."

"Have you tried forcing it to move?~"

Forcing it? Don't you have to imagine it moving?

"Magic doesn't work through imagination alone~"

"I see...thanks."

"Cya~"

Crysero ran out of the room and I just realised that Warlic was gone as well. Well that doesn't really matter right now. Time to figure out how to use Crysero's advice. How do I force the ball to move. It doesn't work with me imagining it. So I have to use mana to move it? Wait doesn't this bracelet help me control my mana? In that case....

I imagined a force pushing on the ball and it moving left a bit.

Move move move move move move move move. Ah it moved. I finally moved the damn light ball.

"Ah good you finally moved it. That finishes phrase two of the training."

Wait what?! When and how did Warlic get here.

"Mind you, I didn't leave this room. I simply moved out of your sights. You focusing on the task helped as well."

So he was spying on me....great.

"What's the next part of the training?"

"Making several of them at one and controlling them at the same time. Simple to say but much more difficult than you think. I suggest you focus on making two light balls at once first before trying to move them. This task requires you to focus on multiple things at once. Something not many can do without failure. Now then I have to do stuff again."

Warlic left me to the current task which would take me a while to complete. First of all I tried making two light balls instead of one. The results was two very unstable things floating that doesn't resemble light balls.

This is pretty hard to do. I bet the bracelet is helping a lot. Maybe if I try to make one after the other it would be easier.

I focused on making one light ball and after it appeared I focused on making the other.

BOOM

The first light ball became unstable and exploded in my hand when I tried to make the second one.

You have lost 10 health.

Shit. If things don't do well I might die. Well I can still go on but after a couple more tries I have to rest. Speaking of rest I have to eat. I took out another rye bread which I promptly brought in stacks before and ate two of them to restore my Satisfaction metre back to max. I also took out one of several canteens of water which I also brought and drink a bit of water from one of them. The reason why I brought so much supplies is so if anything happens I won't starve to death. Well at least not immediately. Dan also gave me a free meal occasionally so I won't get sick of the taste of rye bread.

Anyway I have to get back in task. If I lose focus on one ball it'll explode. That's great information for me. It'll serve as a reminder to not lose focus on one of them. I created another light ball in my hand and started to try and create another one without letting the first one explode. The results was the same.

You have lost 10 health.

Really....this is going to take a while.
