Lex and Gwendolyn stood on either side of the hall as they looked dead in each other's eyes.
Gwendolyn held a rapier sword in her hand and was ready to attack Lex. Likewise, Lex also stood on the other side, holding his twin daggers in the reverse grip.
Neither Gwendolyn nor Lex used their ability, Cryonomy and Pyromancy, respectively.
Finally, the silence was broken when Gwendolyn raised her sword and shot towards Lex.
Lex smiled and also shot at her. They met in the middle of the hall as the sword and daggers collided with each other and made sparks fly around.
Gwendolyn wasn't done, so she sidestepped and attacked Lex from the side. Already expecting that, Lex attacked her with one of the daggers while keeping the other one to parry Gwendolyn's sword.
But Gwendolyn wasn't the President of The Student Council for nothing. She easily changed the trajectory of her sword and positioned it in such a way that it stopped both the daggers.
'She's good.' Lex was honestly impressed by Gwendolyn's swordsmanship. Although only a few seconds had passed in the fight, he could see how skilled Gwendolyn was.
The same went for Gwendolyn; she realised just how skilled Lex was. She hadn't seen this level of skill aside from only a few individuals. But the reason she was so surprised was because all of those individuals were older than her.
But Lex was clearly a teenager, and she had already crossed the age of 20. She was already hailed as a genius for attaining such skills at such a young age. And this was just about swordsmanship, not about her control and comprehension of her ability.
Gwendolyn took a deep breath and again attacked, this time even faster and every attack of her was aimed at vital parts of Lex's body.
At first, Gwendolyn wasn't going all out as she was afraid that she would accidentally kill Lex, but now that she had seen his skills, she was sure nothing would happen to him.
And it was as she expected; even after going all out, she wasn't able to even land a single hit on Lex. But she didn't panic and instead completely calmed her mind and focused on the battle.
'Impressive! With great skills, she also has a great mentality. Well then, time to increase the fun.' Lex thought as he grinned and increased the pace of his attacks as he defended with one dagger and tried to hit Gwendolyn with another.
But Gwendolyn used the advantage the sword had, the length of the sword. She always kept a little distance between them as they danced around the hall. Not even a single time did she let the dagger come close to her.
But Lex didn't back down and continued to attack and defend while moving around the hall.
As Gwendolyn defended another swipe of the dagger, she saw an opportunity, something she had been waiting and looking for this whole time.
She parried the attack, heading towards her with her hands instead of the sword as she punched at Lex's hand. Lex was rather surprised at the sudden events and was caught off guard.
Gwendolyn took advantage of this and sliced at the other dagger Lex was holding. She could have attacked Lex directly, considering she had gotten the opportunity, but she had a feeling it would be a futile attempt, so she went for the dagger.
The force behind the sword attack was too much, and Lex lost the grip on his daggers, which sent it flying in the air. But by then, Lex had composed himself.
He smiled and once again attacked her with the remaining dagger. Already expecting that, Gwendolyn brought her sword in the trajectory of the dagger.
But it was a feint.
Lex smiled as he did a front flip using the momentum he had and kicked Gwendolyn with both of his legs.
Gwendolyn, obviously shocked by the change of attacks, didn't get the time to dodge the kick and hurriedly brought her sword in between to defend herself.
The twin kick landed on the horizontal surface of the sword, which Lex used as a means to jump in the air. But that also made Gwendolyn lose her balance and stumble back.
The reason Lex jumped was to get back the dagger, and he did. In mid-air, he caught the second dagger, but then he had an idea.
Seeing that Gwendolyn still hadn't balanced herself, Lex threw the dagger he had just caught with his full force.
The dagger hurled its way towards Gwendolyn and reached her in no time. She saw the dagger coming towards her and clicked her tongue. She still wasn't in a state where she would be able to deflect the dagger with her sword.
The only option she had left aside from getting hit by the dagger was to use her ability. Although she was reluctant to use her ability before Lex used his, she had no choice.
Gwendolyn's eyes shot wide open as a shield made out of ice appeared in front of her; it was thin as she wasn't able to make a proper shield in such a short time. But that didn't matter, as she had made the shield in a diagonal shape.
The dagger hit the shield and destroyed it, but the shield did what it was made to do. The dagger was deflected as it bounced to the other side and dropped, losing its momentum.
Lex also landed as he panted. Clearly, the fast-paced fight had stressed his body a little.
'Still, this world's humans have a better body. Just this fight shows it.' Lex thought, still getting marvelled at how he could fight such battles.
[Hmm, this world is really a fucked up one. It basically houses so many types of energies, so of course, it will also affect human physiology.]
'Yeah,' Lex then stood up straight as he looked at Gwendolyn, who was also looking at him. Lex still couldn't read the emotions from her face.
He shook his head and again got into a battle stance. He then grinned and said, "Time for round 2."
