"Surprised? It might not do much to monsters but it's good for keeping law amongst men," The old man said.
"That's good, law is essential," John said with narrowed eyes.
"You look like you're headed for Snow Valley City, am I right?" The old man asked.
"I am, I need a place to rest," John replied.
"Afraid the city's on lock, unless of course, you're willing to work," The old man said. His purpose was obvious but John didn't really have much of a choice.
"What kind of work are we talking?" John asked.
Despite the hostile undertones of his words, there was a certain nobility to the old man, a sense of honor even, so John didn't just tell him to fuck off directly.
"Perfect kind of job for a big feller like you, monster hunting! I'll pay you for every monster's head and I'll let you into the city," The old man said.
"That works for me," John replied.
