Realizing Daemond hadn't answered, Annica began to regret her question.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to bring up your past, my lord," Annica said as she stopped in her steps. "I guess... I was just curious."
Daemond shook his head.
"I was six years old when Queen Regina sold me," Daemond finally replied. "To a lanista from the Kingdom of Loras."
"A lanista? What's that?"
Daemond resumed his steps while Annica followed next to the man.
"It's a gladiator trainer. Gallus was his name. A miserable, old man who only thinks about profit and money."
Annica watched Daemond's face as the man told his story. The green eyes were staring straight ahead, but his gaze was far away as if he was back in Loras. Back to the past.
"My first fight was when I was 12 years old," Daemond continued in a steady stride. "I've never told this to anyone but I still clearly remember my first match. It was against a woman."
