Chapter 1 - The Moon Godess

Plague wreaked havoc over the village, as Aylin tried her best to cure the people of Elara. Sitting in the small room, Aylin did her best to watch over the child of the village leader. The child had been sick for three nights and it seemed this might be his last night. Carefully, Aylin administered the medicine to the child. The child did his best to consume it and barely managed to swallow the bitter substance. The mother took the hands of her sick child and tried to hold back her tears.

"There is nothing more that I can do, all that we can do is pray. Pray to the goddess of the moon Altalune, the goddess of healing." Aylin sincerely said to the mother.

Aylin took a step back and bowed her head. The mother did the same as Aylin. When they lifted their heads the child opened his eyes and let out a quiet whimper. The mother ran to her child with tears in her eyes.

She cried out to her child. "Oh Luca, how are you feeling? Are you feeling any better?"

The mother embraced her child and cried out again. "My sweet child, I was so worried I was going to lose you. I don't know what I would have done if I did. It seems the moon goddess Atalune answered my prayer. My child, I'm so glad you're better."

"It seems the moon goddess has answered our prayers and healed your child. Though you should still be careful while he is recovering. Although his illness is gone, he is still weak." Aylin explained

"Thank you miss Aylin for being here." The mother cried out.

"Don't thank me, thank the moon goddess Atalune."

With the child's health in better condition, Aylin grabbed her coat ,bag of medicinal herbs and left the residence. She walked alone in the night. With nothing but the stars and the light of the crescent moon to guide her to her little cottage deep within the forest.

As she took in the sight of her little stone cottage bordered with the overgrown perennials and vines. She couldn't help but think of the little boy she saved today. He reminded her of herself when she was younger, weak and sick but there was a clear distinction between the two. The boy had people to care for him while Aylin was alone. This was why Aylin helped others despite what it could cost her. She couldn't let others suffer the way she did when could help them.

Lost in her thoughts Aylin opened the door to her cottage. The interior was simple but homely. A fire mantle was placed against the wall. Next to it were a gray pot and some cooking utensils ready to be used when needed. The cream wall was turning to a brown, caused by smoke. Despite this Aylin never bothered to clean the walls. She liked watching things change and grow old. She found comfort in it. Because with time people can change, and they can heal from the wounds of their past. She walked over to the wooden table and sat her bag down then she threw her coat onto the disheveled bed across the room. She walked to the basin, grabbed a cup and scooped out some water and sat down at the table and drank it.

Aylin looked out of the window up at the moon. She smiled a little. Aylin loved the moon. Even though she has felt alone most her life, the moon has always been there for her, and will continue to be there for her.

"Atalune, thank you for your help today. With your power of healing I was able to help that boy and his mother." Aylin said, looking up towards the moon.

"There is no need to thank me for that feat. Although your power comes from me, you were the one responsible for healing the boy." The soft feminine voice of the moon spoke.

"Yes, but without your power I wouldn't have been able to do anything. So I must give thanks where it is due." Aylin responded

A shadow began to appear in the form of a woman before Aylin. And within a moment the shadow took on a physical form. A woman dressed in light blue silk and adorned with silver and pearls took her seat in front of Aylin.

"I am the one who is grateful for you. Without my contract with you I wouldn't be able to enter the physical realm." Atalune countered.

Aylin chuckled a little and returned Atalune's statement. "Correct without the contract you wouldn't be able to come to the physical world and I would be helpless.

They both laughed and then Atalune leaned forward and kissed Aylin's forehead. Then she whispered into Aylin's Ear. "We will forever be indebted to each other. And when you need me the most I will be there for you and you will be there for me."

Again Atalune kissed Aylin forehead, she leaned back and they both smiled at each other.

"Next time I stop by I have something important to discuss with you. As for now, have a very goodnight Aylin."

The same as she appeared the moon goddess disappeared into the night sky.
