Chapter 7 - Chapter 6 : The first cog of destiny reveals its existence

Edward :

I want to see behind the department store, let me through!

A village border guard:

Stay away from the border if you don't want to be afraid of emptiness for the rest of your life.

The manager of a store near the village border:

Since earlier, he's been bugging me to help him get behind my store, let me take him so he get so scared, he won't think of coming and bugging me for this kind of nonsense until his death.

The guard:

You know what's involved and yet you still want to take her away, are you prepared to accept the consequences?

Manager:

Of course, think of it as a way of keeping him under control through fear, and then it'll be fun, won't it?

"The manager taps the guard on the shoulder, then whispers in his ear with a mischievous smile."

Don't you want to see his reaction?

The guard:

"In turn, the guard also wears a mischievous smile."

Of course, I hate him after all.

"The guard regains his normal face then says to Edward and the store manager."

You may pass.

Manager:

Come on, kid, I'll show you the part behind the store.

Edward :

Yeah too good, it's going to be too good!

"(How naive I was, seriously. It was because of this event that I became more suspicious of the locals, no need to be that happy, younger me.)"

"Both are heading toward a round expanse near the edge of the village, behind where they came across the guard."

"They're coming up to the edge of the village."

Manager:

Do you like the place?

Edward :

"Edward runs around all excited, loving above all the fresh wind he feels, much more present than in the village interior."

It's the most beautiful place, I love it so much!

It's too good!

Manager:

(I see, so you're having fun eh, wait and see hey hey.)

Hey kid, don't you want to look over there, if you look down you'll see it's beautiful.

Edward :

Show me, show me!

Manager:

If you like.

"The manager instinctively broke into a perverse grin whenever he thought of his evil plan."

Hey hey, hold my hand and I'll take you there.

"Edward moves his hand closer to the manager's, they were now holding hands with each other."

Here we go.

"They headed straight for the edge, until they came close to the void."

Lean down to see everything, don't worry, I'll hold your hand.

Edward :

All right.

"Edward leaned down and saw the beauty of the landscape on the ground."

Wow, it's beautiful down there, uh, aah I'm, I'm scared!

Manager:

(Mmm, no that won't be enough to freak him out just imagining coming here.)

Take that, brat!

"The manager presses Edward's head toward the void so he can't take his eyes off the airy void, keeping his belly compressed against the ground."

Edward :

"Edward faced with such a frightening situation cries a lot."

Aaahh!

Help me, aaahh!

Help me ahheuhhu!

"(Enough of this vision, I've seen enough.)"

Edward:

(I see that even today, I am unable to fully face my past.)

Haah.

"Edward reopens his eyes."

(Although it was supposed to be a simple walk, it turned into three weeks of complete insomnia and an inability to speak for two whole months, because I was so afraid that someone would make me go through the same experience again.

Unfortunately I've confirmed myself that I won't be able to escape the fear of heights during the phase of fall, too bad I guess.)

"Edward lights the candle on his bedside table with a lighter placed on it, and looks from his bed at how dark it is outside from the glass window."

(I see, now's the time, eh?)

"Edward gets out of bed, stretches his arms while smiling."

It's show time, baby.

"All of a sudden, his own joke stole his smile."

(No it was just awkward, a reminder to myself, never to consider cool all the phrases a hero can say to sound more interesting.)

"Edward takes his bag, extinguishes his candle and leaves the house, closing the door tightly behind him."

"For a little while, he took one last look at the house."

(I guess this is goodbye, it's time for me to go and live as I wish, no longer afraid to die and live for nothing, no longer an existence that has done nothing with its life and will never do anything useful for anyone benevolent.

And damn, never mind, I'm probably talking too much, it's only a house anyway.)

"Edward resumed the path he had planned to take to escape, he advanced slowly and silently."

(I have to watch out for the noise I'll make with my footsteps, even though there's no one in sight at the moment.

Luckily I brought my flashlight so I can see where I'm going for few seconds in really dark paths, also there are no people on this street.)

"He advances cautiously towards the edge of the village when on his way in the distance, the still-open Bread With Teeth restaurant shows light inside."

One of The Bread With Teeth customer :

Mmm, weird I see something moving there.

His friend:

You've probably had too much to drink Francis, look at you, all blue with the pint you've just had buddy.

It must be your imagination, pay no attention and finish off the glass in front of you that you've got left.

Francis :

Nggh, do you want to fight me or what, did you see the size of the glass, do you want to kill me or what?

His friend :

Ah ah ah!

Edward :

"Edward could see them in the distance, but he remained serene in spite of everything."

(It looks like they didn't notice me, which is a good thing, I will see now if there's a guard near the edges even though I doubt it.)

"He continued his advance until he reached the edge near the void."

(It's a good thing there were no guards, because the last hurdle now is jumping.)

"He's looking at something to the left, a building he's never seen before."

(Hey, I've never seen this building before, it looks weird compared to the others I've seen, it looks much bigger.

It almost sounds like the description I've read many times about building types called hangars, strange.

Forget it, I don't have time to contemplate the scenery, I've got to jump as soon as possible before I'm prevented from doing so.)

"As he approached the edge, he could already see the abyssal void below him as he lowered his head."

"The sound of the wind didn't help Edward to feel reassured in front of this vertiginous night landscape."

Wouhhchhwouuuhhh!!!!

"Panic began to have an effect on Edward."

(Gee, it's not as I imagined, the void looks a lot scarier than I thought, what do I do?

I don't want to jump, it's just too high, how can I jump from so high, I'll die if I jump.

It's the only thing waiting for me, I didn't think it would be so frightening to see this emptiness, what should I do?)

"Edward was starting to panic, but he calmed down a little more as soon as he stabilized his breathing."

Haah, houh.

(It's better when I do this.

Come on, I had to make this decision sooner or later, I can't stay here too long.)

Houuhh.

When you have to, you have to.

"He's made up his mind right now, Edward's getting ready to take off, he's closing his eyes."

(Don't think about the fall, don't think about the fall, don't think about the fall.)

"He opens his eyes, takes off."

Aaaah!!

"Then Edward jumps into the void."

Aaahh!!!

"During those interminable thirty seconds of fall, he thought."

(What an idea to jump.

I'm really going to die today, but despite everything, whatever happens, I have no regrets, it's my choice.)

Aaaahh!

(At least, I can be totally free for the first time of my l..)

Pttumm!!

"Edward ends up crushed to the ground."
