Chapter 8 - Sorcery of Names

By three o clock, classes had finally ended for the day.

Tai did not have much friends, he actually didn't have any friends to start with, and the entire school was ticking him off.

After taking a long bath, the teenager found himself lying down on his bed ready to call it a night.

Despite the time still being four o clock.

Being unable to fall into the solace if slumber, Tai decided to practice his energy control.

He did not have any other better thing to do anyways as dinner wasn't until six o clock.

However, the moment he felt the electric shock like feeling of pure energy running through his energy core, an ethereal white glow burst out of his chest.

The energy around him manifested in the shape of a handsome black haired man, almost giving the red haired teenager a heart attack.

"What the fuck?!!!"

Tai had almost completely forgotten about the black sword and the wraith that had come out from it the other day.

He was way too busy lamenting his Affinity to remember a ghost sorcerer and an enchanted sword.

Smiling, the wraith bowed.

"We meet again, strange boy."

Tai did not know what to say, so he just nodded a bit.

"Uh huh."

But the wraith did not seem to notice as it began floating about, exploring the room in facination.

After a while, Tai had finally gotten back his bearings as he managed to speak.

"Who ...what are you?"

The sword wraith smiled slightly.

"How could you not remember?

I am Amirax, the greatest sorcerer to ever grace the Floating Isles."

Tai nodded gently and asked again.

"Ok, so why are you here?"

Amirax frowned in disappointment.

"You really have a terrible memory don't you?

I said when we first met, that I had made a deal with fate.

However, that demon is not to be trusted, he cheated me, which ended up with me stupidily suggesting a duel to the death, I died, and you freed my soul from Fate's sword where I had been trapped for thousands of years."

Tai shook his head as he fell asleep.

"Things just get worse and worse, don't they."

First he was cursed with the worst ability and a trash level affinity, then he sucked at even using the trash level affinity, then there was a lethargic teacher who saw it fit to laze about and give overnight detentions, then there were jobless arseholes who had made it their only goal to ridicule him and call him names, then there were the seniors who did not want him to participate in the Monthly Assessment, and now, he had to deal with the spirit of a dumbass sorcerer who killed himself trying to duel fate following him around.

"Absolutely ridiculous."

***

The next morning, Tai had gotten up very, very early so that he could study the Sorcery of Names before classes.

Sorcery of Names was the only form of sorcery a summoner needed as they only had to master the True Name of whatever they wanted to summon.

The bald guy, Auro, had called the true name of the dragon rabbit before it manifested.

As an Item Summoner, this applied to the red haired teenager a lot.

For an items summoner like Tai, he had to learn the three steps of calling the True Name.

The first step included calling out the true name of the object while sending out your energy outwards to bind the object of his choice, the second included withdrawing the energy from the object while would then allow him to store it in his soul, and the third step would give him the ability to summon and unsummon it at will as he called out the name of the object, provided he correctly performed the first two.

After studying the heavy textbook for hours, the red haired teenager sighed and stood up.

He had understood enough to try summoning something.

Picking up his pencil, Tai attempted to use the first step.

He opened up the book to where it read, 'Pencilus Grafitte', the true name of a pencil.

He expended his energy outwards to the pencil as he stated.

"Pencilus Grafayte!"

Then he scratched the back of his red hair.

"That didn't come out right.

Let's try again, shall we?"

"Pancilus Grafitte!.. no, that's not it."

"Pancilus Grafitte!.. still a no."

"Pen..." This continued till daybreak.

Tai kept on trying to call out the true name of a pencil, and kept on failing over and over again.

It wasn't limited to pencils though, as the red haired teenager found that he could not call out the true name of any object.

With a sigh, he crashed on his desk.

"I hate my Affinity...I hate it so very much."

The sword wraith looked at him in profound amusement.

"What are you doing?"

In response, Tai scowled.

"Being a shitty failure of a Protector."
