Chapter 15 - Paint Me Red

Taken aback by Denver's sudden appearance, Cassidy let go of the wig, and Denver said, "Thank you, milady." He flashed her a grin before turning away with the pink wig.

Cassidy frowned. "No way! You tricked me!" she exclaimed, feeling cheated. "You took advantage of your good looks and stole that wig from me. It was meant for my friend!"

Denver paid no attention to her, keeping his eyes fixed ahead as he walked away without even a backward glance.

Disappointed, Cassidy returned to the spa, wearing a frown. She asked about Dana's progress. "They're still prepping my face," Dana said.

Cassidy sighed, explaining, "I found this really cute pink wig, and I was about to get it for you. But some jerk stole it from me." Her tone was one of deep irritation.

"What a thief! A real scoundrel," Cassidy continued, her anger growing. "He tricked me and then ran off with the wig. I was planning to surprise you, but now I'm the one who's surprised. And not in a good way!"

She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down.

"No, there's no need anyway," Dana said. She gestured to her hair, which was wrapped in a towel. "See, my hair is already taken care of. I don't need the pink wig anymore."

Cassidy's brow furrowed in confusion. "But I can't see your hair," she said. "It's covered up."

Dana smiled, and in a matter-of-fact tone, she replied, "I've already decided what to do with it. I've used a permanent spray to change the color."

Cassidy was intrigued. "What color did you use?" she asked. "Pink?" she added excitedly, knowing that Dana had loved pink ever since they were kids. But for some reason, pink never really suited her.

Cassidy thought that Dana would look better with a shade of white that matched her porcelain skin. But she would never say that out loud and hurt her friend's feelings.

So, when Dana replied, "Red," Cassidy's eyes went wide.

"Red?" she exclaimed in disbelief.

"Yep," Dana answered with a casual shrug. "Oh, and Cassidy, could you get me some ice water?"

Cassidy was still in a state of disbelief, but she managed to nod.

As she headed off to get the water, Dana leaned back and closed her eyes, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. She felt happy to be away from Cassidy even for a few seconds.

Meanwhile, the makeup artist gave her a compliment. "You're a beauty, you know that?" she said, sounding impressed. She unwrapped the towel, revealing Dana's red, long hair, which had been freshly colored. It cascaded over her shoulders in silky waves.

Dana couldn't help but smile at her reflection in the mirror.

As Dana admired herself in the mirror, Vance's voice echoed, limited to her head. "That's what we're talking about," he said approvingly. "You're going to make them trip all over themselves for you."

But outwardly, Dana simply continued admiring herself in the mirror with a satisfied smile. No one knew what was in that rotten possessed mind!

When Cassidy returned with the ice water, she said, "Oh my gosh, you look amazing! Okay, it's my turn to get prepped."

Dana replied, "Have fun!" and continued to observe her transformation in the mirror.

As Cassidy worked on her hair and makeup, Dana noticed that her friend kept sneaking peeks at her reflection in the mirror. Vance wondered for a moment, "Is Cassidy gay?"

But he quickly dismissed the thought, knowing that it was probably just her imagination. After all, Cassidy had dated plenty of guys in the past. That he saw in the clip and was in his memory now.

Soon, Dana's phone buzzed with a new message. It was from Funny Kenny. "I'm outside the mall," the message read. Dana couldn't help but smile.

Seeing this, Cassidy said, "Why are you smiling? Is it about Dorian Gray? Your crush?"

Dana rolled her eyes. "Oh please," she said, "I'm not crushing on that fart face."

Cassidy burst out laughing. "So now he's a fart face, huh?" she teased. "Did you hear he's in town? Why didn't you go to the airport to see him? You could have gotten a picture of him and posted it online."

Dana shot her a stern look. "Enough about that guy, okay? I don't want to hear it."

Cassidy held up her hands in surrender. "Okay, okay," she said. "I'll keep my mouth shut."

Cassidy was a little frustrated by Dana's dismissal of the conversation, but she decided to keep quiet and avoid upsetting her friend.

When they were done, Dana headed into the dressing room and changed out of her hospital gown and into a flowy dress. The dresser helped her put on the dress, her shoes and handed her a brush so she could do her hair.

Vance, inhabiting Dana's body, found the situation uncomfortable but opted to let the old woman do it, imagining her as his mom or old aunt. After some pleading and hours of discomfort, the dress change was finally successful.

As they made their way out, Dana was filled with excitement and began to sing a song:

šŸŽ¶Paint me red,

Don't let me see the light of day,

Paint me red,

I'm a bad girl, you know that's true,

Don't call me an angel, I'm not that pure.šŸŽ¶

"That's a really catchy tune!" Cassidy said with a grin. "Where's it from?" She looked over at Dana, hoping to make things right between them. In addition, she genuinely liked the song and was curious to know more about it.

"It is a good song!" Dana agreed. "It's by Christian Churcho."

She couldn't help but beam with pride, happy to have introduced her friend to one of her favorite artists. "I love his music," she continued. "It's really unique and different."

"Christian Churcho?" Cassidy's eyes widened in surprise. "I think I've heard of him. He's not a big name, though, right?"

Dana nodded. "Yeah, he's pretty unknown. But the song is called 'Paint Me Red.'"

"I don't remember hearing that song," Cassidy said, her brow furrowing as she tried to recall any songs by Christian Churcho. "Are you sure it's by him?" she asked, still a bit doubtful.

Dana's face turned quizzical at Cassidy's response. "Wait, what?" she said. "I'm pretty sure that song came out last year."

"That can't be right," Cassidy said. "Christian Churcho is a relatively new artist. I'm pretty sure he's only released two songs, and they both came out four months ago."

"Are you kidding?" Dana said, her eyes widening. "Christian Churcho has been singing for a long time now. Three years if not more. I don't know where you're getting this idea that he's only been singing for a few months."

Cassidy was starting to get frustrated. "That's just not possible," she said. "I've been following him since he started, and I can tell you for sure that he only started four months ago."
