In those two hours, all the fighters had already made all the preparations Herald had told them about. They were all fully armed, knowing that this attack would strike fear into the hearts of even the veterans. Herald and Clantis had already organised everything they could during this time and stood in front of the soldiers to organise them.
"All the preparations we were able to make at this point have been made. Night will fall in half an hour, but we don't know where the enemies will come from. The most important thing is to keep your eyes open, they always appear unexpectedly, their element is fire, so the warriors with water elements will stand near the water tanks, those who use wind will handle the logistics between the squads, you will be very important here as we are more likely to have little water than a lot. The earth warriors are building fortifications so they can take cover from fire, the women's carriage has a water-type protection spell on it, so their family specialisation has been a good help here, but this spell only protects the inside of the carriage, so for now we can only protect the children and the Fourth Mistress, so it will be less of a hassle, but they will not be protected from direct attack. Ten men will stay behind to protect them. Everyone mind their own business."
Daniel stood next to Melissa and the Fourth Mistress and watched as the Herald walked towards him. Daniel still didn't understand the complicated looks of the Herald and Clantis. But he waited to see what the Herald would say.
"Boy, it's hard to explain, and I always thought it was too soon, but when it's over I'll at least tell you a minimum of the information I've been hiding, although Clantis and Eldsem might not be very happy about it. Just know that the protection of the ladies will probably fall on your shoulders. Do not leave the carriage under any circumstances, if the carriage is attacked it may take about five minutes and I will be there. If the carriage is opened, look for a way to either escape the mob or kill the last of the attackers if you are sure you can escape after killing them. I know you're a master of tearing claws, so keep the ladies quiet.
The herald didn't even know how to tell him what he was hiding, so he just said it like an order.
Daniel took no offence, but was now in his own thoughts.
"Have you got it all figured out, little one?"
"Even though I'm confused, I will. I thought I'd finally be able to go to the Academy and then this shit happens. What the hell did you get me into? Dude, you owe me, okay?"
Melissa and her mother stood there dumbfounded that their last defender was a little boy only a year older than them, Melissa was just stunned and the Fourth Mistress had already started yelling at the Herald.
"I pay you so much money for guards and you only leave ten people and one little boy to protect us!!! I will tell my husband everything, that you are putting our Melissa in danger!!!!! I will tell everyone and no one will ever need you again! To think we hired you for ten thousand gold pieces and all you can do is protect yourselves and watch us die!
Daniel and Herald were not surprised by her reaction, but her judgement was always in question, so it was a long and ineffective explanation. Melissa, on the other hand, just stood there with a blank expression on her face; she hadn't expected to find herself in this situation as soon as she stepped out into the outside world.
Heralda's only response was this
"When this is over, I will tell your husband everything myself, if of course anyone lives to see the dawn. Daniel, take her to the carriage, you already know the rest."
The herald walked away, leaving the ladies with pale faces, and Danielle with a serious expression tried to get the ladies into the carriage. This was problematic because the Fourth Mistress kept shouting that she wanted to jump on the fastest animal and get as far away as possible. Only Danielle realised she was just mad. Every night there were battles to protect the camp, so everyone could see a bunch of monsters trying to attack the camp. This was despite the fact that the mercenaries always left animal repellent behind, and she wanted to go into the forest where there was no such protection and she would just be gnawed on.
When Daniel put them in the carriage it got quiet inside, the ladies just shivered, and Daniel tried to piece things together, something was really strange, but he couldn't find out what it was, because he had never asked the Herald anything secret, so he could only get a handle on what he had said before leaving the ladies to protect him and the ten warriors.
Another five minutes passed, and suddenly it was as bright as day. The sun appeared in the sky.
"Fuck!!! What the hell is this?!"
It warmed everyone around them to the point that many even started to sweat, but no one got burned because the warriors with water skills had left enchantments to protect them from the heat. Except that this sun made everyone feel cold inside.
