IMOGEN'S POV

As Isaac's words sank in, a cold dread washed over me. My mother. If what he was saying was true, she had no idea what she'd just walked into.

"I have to go," I blurted out, already backing towards the door.

Isaac's brow furrowed. "Imogen, wait-"

But I was already moving, my heels clicking rapidly against the linoleum floor as I half-walked, half-ran through the hospital corridors. My heart pounded in my chest, each beat seeming to echo the urgency I felt.

I burst through the hospital's main doors, the bright morning sunlight momentarily blinding me. The parking lot was bustling with activity, doctors and nurses changing shifts, visitors coming and going. I looked around frantically, relief flooding through me as I spotted a cab dropping someone off.

"Taxi!" I called out, waving my arm as I rushed towards it.
