DEBORAH'S POV
With a resounding crash that I felt more than heard, the car slammed into the gates. Metal screeched against metal as the gates buckled under the impact. For a heart-stopping moment, I thought the car would be stopped, trapped by the twisted wreckage.
But then, with a final groan of protesting metal, the gates gave way. The car burst through, fishtailing slightly before straightening out and speeding down the long driveway towards the main road.
A hysterical laugh bubbled up in my throat, mixed with a sob of relief. He had done it. Somehow, despite his injuries, despite everything, Elijah had done it with no regard for his life.
For me... He did that for me.
I could hear shouts from downstairs, my father's voice rising above the chaos. Soon, he would come out, demand to know what had happened.
