Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 I embarked on the road of indifference

Since Zheng Xu is here, it's natural that he knew Chu Jing came to find me alone yet he still accuses me indiscriminately. It is obvious which direction his heart is leaning.

I told him coldly, "Zheng Xu, you should know the rules of the sect."

Zheng Xu became quiet and nodded.

As my mother was the sect leader, there were many expectations on me as a successor since young and I would take over all of the responsibilities, inheriting her position.

According to the rules in the immortal world, the quota for participating in the Xian Xia competition would be given priority to the sect leader's successor unless someone else has more outstanding ability, they can replace the successor to participate.

Although I didn't like practicing when I was a child, because of my mother's urging, I had to practice all day long, just to reach the level of the Xian xia competition as soon as possible.

Therefore, in the sect, except for my mother and elders, no one was my opponent.

It's just that for some reason, my mother has never been optimistic about me, so she has been slow in making the decision on the candidates for the Xian xia competition.

Zheng Xu knew that I have competed with him many times, and he is not as good as me.

"In that case, do you still want to compete with me?"

Zheng Xu lowered his head and said nothing.

I understood his intention clearly. He must had known about Chu Jing's plan for a long time and he acquiesced.

"Okay," I looked at him and said, "Tomorrow we will compete here. If you win, you can take my place in the Xian Xia competition."

There was a hint of loneliness in Zheng Xu's eyes, "Wen Wen, my original intention was not being dissatisfied with Master's actions, I just..."

"I get it." I cut him off, " You were once defeated by me but you didn't admit defeat. However you didn't want to directly show your dissatisfaction and damage your glorious image, so you let Chu Jing to come and provoke me...you have achieved your goal, go back and practice hard in order not to lose tomorrow."

Although I may have lost my six emotions and seven desires, it I did not meant that I don't understand human nature.

I am aware of Zheng Xu's intentions and ambitions, every being will always think that the grass is greener on the other side without fully understanding anything. It's natural for people in the sect to long for the supreme leader position, it looks glorious but it comes with great responsibilities. I seen the sleepless nights of my mother dealing with administrative work and cultivating, so what may seem illustrious may only be on surface, deep down it might not be as beautiful as one thought.

In order to prevent everyone from being dissatisfied, my mother set up contest every few years and without exceptions I was the winner of every trial.

Chu Jing is a newcomer, she doesn't understand. What about Zheng Xu? What was his intention?

....

It was early in the morning when I arrived at the duel venue.

At a distance, Zheng Xu was wiping his sword while Chu Jing was beside him eating pastries.

Since Zheng Xu was best in swordsmanship, it was natural he would use a sword.

As he and I took a stand on the stage, I took the lead in attacking.

I summoned ice spikes and wind blades. As those attacks flew towards him, he took out his scabbard to block it before sending a few strikes back.

I have to admit, Zheng Xu has improved a lot but it was still far off from my level.

Afterall I have cultivated the path of ruthlessness, my actions will not be hindered by emotions and considerations. In addition, with the glass flower bracelet, my skills improved by leaps and bounds.

Soon, Zheng Xu was at a disadvantage, I don't want to hurt him. Just when I was about to end the competition as soon as possible, he suddenly knelt down on the ground with one knee, covered his chest with one hand, looking extremely painful.

I frowned and recalled, I had restrained my strength throughout the whole process, there was no way I could hurt him badly.

He was probably pretending, hoping to catch me off guard if I was checking his injuries.

How shameless and lowly.

So without hesitation, I launched an ice spear at him and kicked him off the platform.

"I won."

.....

"No! It doesn't count, A Xu was injured which allowed you to take advantage of the situation. How could you be so shameless!"

Ah, dogs are barking again.

Yet Chu Jing remains unyielding and even tried encouraging others to join, "Everyone saw it just now. A Xu was injured and fell, that's why he was kicked off the platform. The duel doesn't count and should be restarted!"

Hearing Chu Jing's words, Zheng Xu's face became ugly and he wanted to cover her mouth but it was too late.

It's alright to admit defeat but to be a sore loser, it naturally aroused the dissatisfaction of other people.

"So you are saying that if in the future, as long as you can't beat the opponent in the competition, you can pretend to be injured. As long as you are injured, the competition can be suspended directly?"

"Since when were the rules of the immortal world decided by a mortal?"

"Injuries are common in battles, if you do that...I think the enemy will just directly kill you heh...."

With each comment, Chu Jing's face became paler. She tugged Zheng Xu's sleeves and she'd tears as if she had suffered some kind of huge grievances.

Zheng Xu stood up and gave me a stiff smile, "Wen Wen, I have lost."

I nodded and glance at his body, sure enough, there was no sign of injury. He was pretending.

Although all is fair in war but this still seem too lowly, making use of another's feelings.

That night, when I was about to fall asleep, Zheng Xu came to look for me.

"Wen Wen, although being soft to the enemy on the battlefield means being cruel to yourself, but today I feel a little chilled when I see that you still didn't stop even after I was injured."

His smile was slightly bitter, "You don't care whether I'm hurt or not, do you?"

I said calmly, " Injuries are inevitable during competitions, I will also get hurt sometimes."

Zheng Xu suddenly stepped forward and grabbed my hand, so hard that it hurts, "You don't care anymore, right?"

I pushed back, feeling that this person was repulsive.

Zheng Xu stared into my eyes, "Wen Wen, I felt that you changed in the past few days. You are different from before. You didn't look at me like this."
