Chapter 33 - Spell Quality Over Quantity

"Flame magic! Fireball".

He stretched his hand, conjuring three flaming balls hovering in his front like a circle.

"Hmm...!".

He looked around the vast space to be sure that there wasn't anyone in harm's way. When he had confirmed the place to be secure, he sent the three flaming balls charging forward.

The fireballs landed on the ground and echoed with a loud bang followed by an erupting explosion that left behind a crater.

"I got it!". He says with realization.

"Fire spells magic do not consume as much mana as the druid magic does".

Mikeal had tested the theory by manifesting the fire spell in several forms. Fireball is one of the latest of those manifestations.

He did the same for his druid magic and conjured up trees and vines. He measured the quantity of each spell to get an accurate assessment.

The result he came out with is "Even though the two separate elements both had the same screen time and the same quantity output, their quality and mana expended turned out different".

Turns out that the skill under the flame magic expends less man compared to the skill related to druid magic. It's truly a fascinating outcome. About a ten to fifty per cent ratio for both magic, ten for flame and fifty for the druid.

Mikeal had expected it to be the other way around. Druid magic is his original magic and could be said to be the one he has the closest affinity to.

Flame magic is a copied magic he got from another mage. He was only able to get the magic because of his synthesised skill and not because of his affinity.

However, in return for druid magic taking up more of his mana, the quality usage is ridiculously higher than his flame magic.

Mikeal would have been way pissed if it was the other way around, considering how much mana his druid magic sucks out of him.

Talking about affinity, he reckons that his affinity for flame magic should be on the weaker side. As a user of druid magic related to woods and vine manipulation, he naturally has the flame magic to be his opposite.

Hence, he expects the affinity to also be on the negative side.

That however isn't the case here.

He can use both magic like they are two original parts of him.

If flame magic wasn't classified under synthesized magic, he could have sworn that he is naturally meant to be born with the power of flames as he is with the druid.

"In any case, I should try to use the druid magic less and concentrate more on the flame magic and what it can do".

His druid magic could be said to be in automatic mode. He knows of it, of the skills it brings and even outside of that, he has the creativity for what it can and can't do.

This was information given to him during his mage awakening.

Then there is the flame magic synthesized as his own through his synthesize skill.

He is not totally sure, but at least the flame magic has led him to assume that the only knowledge he can get from synthesized magic is the skill that comes with it.

The flame number pierce being a skill that comes with the flame magic is understood and its function is underlined for Mikeal to know.

Mikeal had to get creative by thinking of ways to utilize the flame magic in several forms. Fireball is one of those ways he had secured.

The process of making a fireball involves materializing the flame and condensing it to look like a ball. In return, the fireball packs up scary explosive capabilities when the condensed fire is released.

"That said, I don't plan on neglecting my druid magic either. I need to keep using it to familiarize myself more with the feeling".

If only mages were not as scant as they are, Mikeal would have raked up a ton of magic by using his synthesize skill on every mage he comes across.

A part of him is eager to encounter another mage with a different magic attribute. Another part of him is conflicted with the danger that comes with it.

He turned his head and looked to the side to monitor Anna. She was in the process of getting accustomed to her new weapon.

Anna swung the katana in a horizontal and went for a vertical after completing the horizontal. She tucked her hand back in, making a run forward as she stopped and took to the air.

In mid-air, Anna twisted her body, spinning the katana and the wind along then landed on the ground.

*Clap!! Clap!!*

Mikeal applauded her show of swordsmanship. Though he is not a master swordsman, he could testify to the amazing move she made.

So refined and without any openings to feast on. She was no doubt a well-breded warrior with a tingling connection to the sword.

"How is the quality? Do you think it is something you can use well". Mikeal inquired.

He wanted to be sure he had not given her troubles that were beyond what she could handle. There is little knowledge of enchantment other than it being an item to aid ordinary folks.

If it is as Siveth says, Anna should be able to draw out the sword's true power. She is, after all, a warrior with potential in the eyes of Mikeal.

"It's flexible to use. The handle makes it easy to shift between attacking or defending and the blade is exquisite! Not something you will see daily".

"I noticed that as well. We should head back to the village now, there are things we need to attend to".

Mikeal had brought Anna far away from the village so he could train in a place where he wouldn't have to worry about the unpredictability of his spells.

They had walked a far distance away from the village and were now making their way back while having small talks regarding the shape of the sword.

He also explained to her the functionality of the sword and how it is different from any normal sword out there.

Their journey back seemed long, but with the both to keep each other company, it did not feel that long.
