Chereads / My Divine Tree System / Chapter 17 - Status Check

Chapter 17 - Status Check

A week has gone by and Mikeal is still bedridden with no changes in how he feels. The aches that started from day one are still there, and the throbbing muscle aches have also had no changes.

He is sour all over and in extreme agony. If there is anything that has changed, it would be how his body is slowly adapting to the pain's intensity making it seem as though it is reducing whereas it isn't, he is just getting used to it is all.

Any attempt to move one muscle on his body results in extremities as though his bones are forcefully being pulled apart.

Hence, he decided to give it a rest and stay still until he was done healing. Already surviving with that much internal and external injury is a blessing enough.

Since he is pretty much rendered useless, Mikeal decides to analyze the awakening he went through.

"Status". He said, expecting the words to project in his thoughts.

His status remained the same with the exception of two additions, a result he had expected.

After his awakening, Mikeal was able to grasp the purpose of his two inherent skills, Blessing Of The Druid and Synthesize.

Blessing of the Druid basically implies his superiority over all wood properties. Be it leaves, trees, vines, thorns. Anything involving wood is at his beck and call to manifest.

He can manipulate them by summoning them out of the ground or from his body. It is however impossible to do so anywhere else.

Why this is so is because the very earth itself is the bedding for the growth of trees. The two work hand in hand to ensure the survival of one another.

Also, the ground is filled with properties that help in the growth of his magic. What he does is take advantage of the properties, bring them under his command and use the blessing of the druid to enhance their growth to his satisfaction.

And the reason why he can also manifest it from his body and not on other's body is because... Well, unlike the others, Mikeal's body houses the divine tree. A blessing that he has no knowledge of except its responsibility for granting him the druid magic which in turn provides the two inherent skills he now has.

Then there is his second inherent skill, Synthesize!

The skill allows him to siphon mana off of any mage he touches. In return, whatever mana is siphoned off that mage is used as sustenance to the divine tree.

It is just like the process of photosynthesis where the tree absorbs sunlight, processes it and releases it out as oxygen.

Well in this case, the divine tree absorbs the mana he siphoned, processes that mana and the return is evaluated depending on the nature of the siphoned.

That was what he used to survive Marcus, the assassin leader's death pierce.

When Mikeal touched him, he had siphoned off sufficient mana, a minuscule that wouldn't be noticed. That was more than enough for the process.

He had siphoned a small amount and fed it to the divine tree. After the due process, the divine tree rewards him with the properties of the mana, flame and the inherent skill that came with the flame, flame number pierce.

Mikeal meditated as a way to access the realm he was in during his awakening. When he got back into the realm, the first thing he did was check up on the two leaves.

It had grown to be a stalk that was seven feet longer, now taller than he was.

The growth is enhanced by feeding it the mana he siphoned. That is the divine tree's way of growth, through the absorption of foreign mana.

And if that mana so happens to have a magic property ( Like Flame Magic & Inherent skill: Number Pierce) like Marcus's one does, it becomes a plus one.

His two inherent skills work hand in hand. One works to support him directly while the other works to support the divine tree's growth which in turn supports his growth.

"A skill that makes use of heat as a form of attack? So that is what gave me these injuries". He mused.

"Certainly. By using the heat to attack, it becomes difficult to notice since it is not in physical form. It also makes it near impossible to sense if I am getting attacked by a physical sword at the same time". Mikeal analyzed.

"The physical sword works hand in hand by camouflaging the presence of the heat attack!".

It was terrifying how close to perfect the skill is. He was so helpless against it that the only thing he could do was evade the physical sword.

If Mikeal hadn't thought to use his synthesize on Marcus to gain the same skill as him, no doubt he would have been outdone.

All those years in solitude and the first person he could relate to as a mage turned out to be a poison that could have taken his life.

"The world of a mage is scary". Mikeal thought.

To think that there can be several others that defy common sense and harbour strange abilities brought a certain thought to Mikeal.

Without knowing what they are or have in their possession, one has to be careful of how they thread against said likes.

If it can be avoided Mikeal would very much like to avoid future confrontations with mages like him. But as he had experienced over the years, reality doesn't always go as we want it to.

*Knock! Knock! Knock!*

Came the requesting sound behind the door.

"Come in". Mikeal responded, to which the door was opened from behind.

...
