Chapter 8 - Cursed Trait Unleashed

'Crazy! This kid is crazy!!'. Is what the assassin leader thought.

There is no sane adult in the land of Emedia who hasn't heard the tale of the cursed prince, and how he came to be.

A prince born under a nefarious fate. To prove his ominous nature, his mother died the moment she gave birth to him. Plague invaded the kingdom almost as though it had been expecting his arrival and a lot more of such terrible instances.

He is a being who should have died and never be given the opportunity to see the light of the day. Rumours say he was isolated in the northern palace because the king could not bring himself to kill the child of the woman he loved.

He was named Mikeal ( Meaning: The Forsaken One) by the king after he ordered him to be locked in the northern palace, alone.

Mikeal's pose remained dominant as ever. He had worries in his mind but did not make it obvious to the assassin. Any traces of weakness were washed away from him as it could end up blowing up his plan.

Before he came in, he had alerted the guards outside and made it known to them that there was a possibility of the king's life being in danger.

At first, they didn't believe him, and he doubted they did even after doing his best to convince them. He told them to rally enough troops and head to the hall. Meanwhile, he was going to stall for time until they arrived.

That is currently what he is doing. Doing everything he can to buy time and hopefully those guards will arrive with more men.

Stalling! That is what it should have been. It still is... But a single move! One single mishap was all it took to drain his effort.

---

Historia who was being held captive was shocked when she saw Mikeal come in and call the king his father.

She had earlier dismissed his question asking her who he was because she thought it did not matter. He was handsome, charismatic, charming, and everything a twelve-year-old would wish for when searching for her other half.

Mikeal had those qualities and that was what enticed Historia so much so that every other thing about him does not matter.

But now... Now?...

Listening to him speak, his choice of words, his actions, the expression on their faces and the way they view Mikeal with such deep-rooted hatred.

Those traits have had her questioning what else is there to him than meets the eyes?! What sort of person is he that has the crowd in such utter disheartenment?

In her sense of profound confusion, she had mistakenly moved her body. Her movement was not one of trying to escape, rather she was adjusting herself.

That however could be classified as a mistake on its own.

The presence of Mikeal brought tension to the atmosphere. His words and threats sprung up fear in the hearts of the assassins.

Said fear had deluded the assassin holding Historia captive into thinking she was trying to escape his grasp.

Thinking of what could happen if he lost his assurance to live? He was ready to do anything.

His determination to keep Historia under his control triumphed over his fear of losing her, hence making him make the mistake of cutting Historia's neck near the collarbone with his sword.

The thick red blood splurted on his blade as Historia gasped with difficulty to catch her breath.

In a panic the assassin let go of her, causing her to fall on her knees as she held her neck with fear written on her face.

"I~ I didn't do it". He panicked!

It was truly unintentional! But who was going to believe him?!

Is it his comrades who are internally cursing him for acting out of command? Or is it Mikeal who is heading to him with as usual his hard-to-read expression?

"I didn't do it! Get away from me! No! No!!". Was all he screamed as he lost the strength in his feet and tried to crawl away from the incoming Mikeal.

Seeing Historia get hurt, her clothing dyed in blood. That sight took Mikeal down memory lane.

He remembered the first time it was confirmed that he was indeed different from other people.

It was around the time when he was still living in the main palace with other people. Mikeal had saved a bird that lost its wings and fell from the sky.

He nurtured the bird back to health and gave it the strength to fly. On that day, he was outside encouraging the bird to fly. That was when the bullies came to him.

Around this time, tales of what he is had spread around the palace so he was for sure isolated from others.

The bullies came around and trashed him like they always did. Nothing happened then, not until they messed with the bird and caused its demise.

That was when it happened!!

Mikeal's eyes sparkled, shining across the bangs covering his pupils. Along with it, vines sprouted from the floor around him and attacked all the assassins, leaving none behind.

Before any of them could comprehend what was happening, all the assassins had vines pierced through their stomach. They were dead and they did not even know how it happened.

"Historia, are you o-".

'What is that?~ her eyes!! They are the same!'. He thought, overwhelmed with confusion as he was about to go and check on Historia up close only to see her face.

He stopped! Dejected as he had his head pressed down, staring at the floor.

He wasn't looking at any of them but he could tell what was happening! The sort of face they were using to look at him. The disdained pupils!!

He could tell! The malice radiating off of them was purely evident in their murmur.

"What was that".

"The mark of the cursed one!".

"He unleashed his deadly trait".

"Is he going to kill us too?".

"We are going to die?!".

"How dare he bring his curse in here?!".

He could hear it all, and he didn't even have to try very hard.

Their whispers did nothing to him, at least not as much as the horrors shown on Historia after she had seen him unleash... His curse.

*Clank! Clank! Clank!*

Is the sound that drew nearer to him.

Mikeal slowly took his head up as he saw a shadow obstructing his view.

"Father... I-".

*Slap!*

Is the sound that rang diligently on his face.

"How dare you set foot in here! You cursed child!".

It came from nowhere! An oppressive feeling that plummeted whatever courage he had.

"Father~ I did not mean what I said. I was jus-".

"Guards! Expel this nuisance from the grounds with immediate effect and lock him up in the dungeon". The king ordered, cutting him off before he could explain.

'What! What! What! What, what, what". Mikeal fumed.

"Why the hell are you all giving me that look?! I just saved your asses. You could have all died if it weren't for me so why!". He yelled, so out of character.

"Tell me what is it I have done so wrong?! Is it a crime to be born the way I am?! I had no say in being this way?! I did not wish for this so why?! Why do you all criticize me for it".

His outburst mandible, his thin voice stretching to all ears present in the hall.

*Slap!*.

Goes another one from the king to his face.

"Go ahead. Yell, shout. Prove to them the cursed side of you. You accursed being".

Mikeal was bittered. Why was he being talked to in this way? Especially by the man who is supposed to be his father.

At this moment, he loathed it all! Every fibre of himself cursed out and just wished to put an end to it all, to everyone in the room.

He lifted his hand and stretched it forward. He did not notice the tears that were flowing down his eyes.

"Go ahead. Use your cursed ability to kill us all. You must have been itching to do that so go right ahead. Do it". The king yelled, daring him to do his worst.

Right at this moment, no traces of Mikeal's charismatic side could be seen. He has fallen so deep in that all there is was loneliness.
