Chapter 11 - Ambushed By A Mage

The winds blew viciously as the atmosphere turned heavy. The sun from nowhere ran into its confines as the sky directly above them turned dark with loud rumbling echoing from within the clouds.

The wonders of nature paid homage to that who is about to awaken from its slumber. It was... The beginning of an insurgence.

His body was lifted, his consciousness temporarily departing to the realm beyond. He was now floating in the air with no regard for what was happening.

"He is going through an awakening! I won't let you". Voiced the assassin leader. "Kill him, now". He commanded the rest.

The four assassins moved to obey his command as they charged at Mikeal with their arms.

They were stopped in their tracks by Siveth and the maid who took to protecting Mikeal's defenseless body.

"You will not touch a strand of his Highness's hair. I will make certain of that". The maid warned.

She brandished her weapon and fearlessly closed the distance with the assassin closest to her.

They had a loud exchange, their weapons clashing and the sound of metal ringing out.

The assassin aimed his weapon at her neck but she so skillfully evaded it and delivered a counter by stabbing his armpit with her dagger.

The assassin groaned in pain only to be followed by a dagger that pierced his neck from the side, putting an end to his life.

Her ability to control her weapon in a one-on-one was unmatched. Proof of that is the assassin that so foolishly challenged her to a one-on-one only to end up a corpse on the ground.

The three others became wary. Her maid outfit had put her off as no less than a weak slave. However, after what they had witnessed? Her skills had no doubt been acknowledged.

This only made things harder for the maid who now have to deal with fully alert three assassins. Irrespective of what may be, she has no intention of letting them anywhere near Mikeal.

While the maid kept the four assassins at bay, Siveth went straight for their leader who had stood behind.

She lept and thrust her front paws at him.

"A tiger! No! You are something else". The leader speculated.

He held the hilt of his sword and swung it in a straight line upright slash. Siveth parried his sword to the side with her right paw and charged ahead.

"As I thought, you are something else. But so am I". Said the leader.

He ducked out of the way and avoided getting pounced on by Siveth's weight.

Siveth landed and took to pursuing him. The leader did not make it easy for her as he too was agile on his feet, surprisingly even more so than Siveth.

At the same time, she kept stretching her paws trying to get even a single hit on his face. Her attacks were futile, the leader was just too fast. His perceptive senses were on a level that had him sensing attacks before they reached him.

"Alright, alright. You have done enough". The leader praised.

There was a change in his presence, a noticeable one that had Siveth on edge and even caused her to try and gain some distance.

Before she could do so, the leader caught her right front arm and used it to slam her on the floor.

"Flame magic, singular pierce".

The tip of his sword caught on fire as he directed it and stabbed directly through Siveth's shoulder.

"As I thought, you are something else. A spirit familiar I suppose". The leader assumed, looking at Siveth growling on the ground.

"Well, no matter. Spirit familiar or not, you can't escape death from a mage's attack".

He drew out his sword still coated in flame and prepared himself to make another attack, this time looking to put an end to her.

"!!!".

...

"Where?!". He questioned, with no one around to answer.

He found himself stranded in a vast expanse, a wide open view striving so brilliantly without the sun's presence in sight.

The ground he stood on was completely transparent water, so pure and so devoid of any blemish. He could see the void that lies beneath the unending ocean.

Out of nowhere, two pointed leaves suddenly grew out of the ocean. The two leaves were vibrant green and grew about an inch on the water's surface, barely scratching through.

Though it was tiny and pointless, it emanated a certain beauty and aura to it, one that could not be fully put into words.

Merely looking at the two leaves brought about a sense of accomplishment and a sort of reminder. Mikeal couldn't point his hand on what exactly.

As he stared at the leaves, he heard a voice. No, it was more like a psychological calling from the leaves pushing him to come closer.

His leg moved, slowly finding his way toward them. He got to it and bent down his body before placing his hand on the leaves, stroking down the plain outlet.

As soon as his hand touched the leaves, his consciousness was transmitted into them and he felt his body travel down their stem and eventually sinking into the root.
