Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 16

 EMERSON

Gary's influence lingered, a persistent distraction that clouded my focus throughout the lecture. Deciding to leave early, I texted him about the impossibility of meeting that day due to an avalanche of assignments.

Saturday brought a surprise message from Gary, proposing a date at my favorite restaurant. Our connection had deepened over the past few days, and he seemed eager to explore it further.

A flurry of conflicting thoughts besieged my mind. Was he interested in a genuine connection, or was this merely a fleeting affair? His invitation stirred anticipation, and I began contemplating my feelings toward him. Struggling to silence the internal chatter, I selected the perfect outfit—a red, backless dress—to meet Gary for dinner.

As Gary pulled up in his black car, donned in a sleek tuxedo, I couldn't help but acknowledge his irresistible charm. His soft kiss on my hand and compliment about my appearance created a warmth that blended with a hint of discomfort from his hand placement on my back. The dinner location exceeded expectations, adorned with roses and a specially arranged table. Gary introduced me to his friends, and during our conversation, his green-eyed gaze held the power to quicken my heartbeat.

Our date unfolded seamlessly, with discussions about Gary's plans, friends, and aspirations. Each glance from him sent butterflies fluttering in my stomach. Unexpectedly, he held my hand, expressing gratitude for my acceptance of the date. His words, 'You are looking gorgeous today. Thank you for saying yes to this date. I have never seen someone as beautiful as you,' fueled a growing attraction. The evening progressed, and upon returning from the restroom, I witnessed Gary holding hands with another girl. A pang of jealousy struck me, and when confronted, he introduced her as an old friend. The evening ended with a mix of emotions, leaving me grappling with newfound feelings for Gary Fisher.
