Chapter 128 - 'Monarchs don't have souls'

"People like you do not like to involve yourselves in our war, so why are you here?" Legia asked.

"People like me?"

"Yes, you possess power seemingly beyond that of us Monarchs or the Rulers, but you would never intervene in our struggles."

"You are correct on that. I don't care about your war, but it has come to my attention that my world would be the battlefield for such a battle," Steve replied.

It was a surprise to hear that he possessed power beyond even the Monarchs, but if there was anything he had learned, it was to never take the words of a soon-to-be-dead creature to heart.

"Your world? Hahaha!" Legia gave a hearty laugh.

"The Earth belongs to no one, especially not to you, humans," Legia replied after a while.

"Then I will just have to kill all of you. I have nothing to lose if I do so—rather, I gain more."

"Monarchs do not have souls. You gain nothing from killing us. However, if you can free me from here, I vow to help you achieve your dream," Legia said.

"..."

Steve didn't even know what to say. He didn't know who told this oversized thing that they didn't have souls.

If they didn't have souls, they would never be able to achieve [Spiritual Body Manifestation], and if they didn't have that, they wouldn't be Monarchs.

The thing Steve found funny about that statement was that, from the Architect's memories, he found it was a fact—a wrong fact but still taken to be true.

If they didn't have souls, then they wouldn't be able to be reborn as Baran had tried.

If they didn't, he wouldn't have been as strong as he is now because he had absorbed the soul of two Monarchs already.

Well, technically one and a half Monarchs, and then the Architect, whose soul wasn't as powerful.

Also, did it take him for a fool or what? Help him accomplish his goal? The giant bastard could barely leave its own castle.

"One, you guys have souls. It's a common misconception that even the Cartenon didn't bother to correct, and two, there is nothing you can do that I wouldn't be able to do when I absorb your soul," Steve said with a smile.

As he said this, he snapped his fingers, and the entire castle broke apart.

It was as though someone cut the building into several small, perfect cubes.

Under Steve's control, these cubes began moving, and the entire castle started looking like a glimpse into the fourth dimension.

"You intend to kill me!!" Legia shouted as its mana flared up.

The once subtle feeling of terror immediately tripled as Legia broke some of the chains binding it.

"Oh please, you and I both know that you wouldn't be able to do anything to me in that state," Steve replied, still standing in his original spot.

He didn't understand the need for this excessive waste of energy.

To many, Legia's actions would mean that it could break out of there easily or something along those lines.

However, to Steve, Legia was just throwing a tantrum that would get it nowhere. To break any of those chains, it would need more than half of its mana to do so.

Legia broke two of them, meaning that it was barely hanging on to dear life at the moment.

Without minding the Monarch's vengeful and murderous gaze, Steve strolled closer, until he was directly before Legia's face.
