Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 The Porcelain Doll in the Rain_1

"Breaking news, Qi Lei, the president of QY Group in Tac City, tragically died in a car accident yesterday along with his wife on the highway. It is reported that the couple was en route to attend the sixth birthday party of their little princess, Qi Xin. Today, Qi Tianhao, the former president of QY Group, announced that he would once again take charge of QY Group and received custody of Qi Lei's son, Qi Siming. As for Qi Lei's daughter Qi Xin, her whereabouts remain unknown. Insiders reveal that Qi Xin was banished from her grandparents' home on the day of her parents' car accident."

Summers in Tac City often see typhoons, and today was no different. The strong gale whipped up advertising billboards on tall buildings, causing them to clatter. The trees were swaying wildly, and the whole street was near-empty. The few cars that did pass were gone in an instant.

A six-year-old girl sat on the street curb at this moment. She had no umbrella, nor raincoat, and was simply sitting there, soaking wet, eating something indistinguishable as rainwater or vegetable soup in a bowl, a clear sign of her hunger.

"What are you doing?" An umbrella appeared above the girl's head. She lifted her gaze to see a golden-haired boy with blue eyes looking at her curiously.

The girl glanced at him once and then lowered her head, continuing to shovel food into her mouth without uttering a word, "..."

"Can't you speak?"

The girl kept eating, "..."

The boy silently watched her hand scoop up food and stuff it into her mouth. When a cockroach found its way into her bowl, the boy could bear no more and kicked the bowl away, "Are you crazy? There's a roach in there, and you're still eating?!"

The girl glanced at the boy, said nothing, and clumsily, perhaps even with difficulty, got up. She scooped food from the ground and tried to stuff it into her mouth again, but the boy slapped her hand away.

"The food is dirty!" The boy roared.

The girl lowered her big, round eyes and softly replied, "But I'm hungry."

"Buy food then!"

The girl lowered her gaze towards the food on the ground, pursing her lips, "I don't have money."

The blonde boy narrowed his eyes as he took in the sight of the girl. He had been observing her for two days. The first time he saw her, she was dressed in a fancy LSA princess dress, sitting on the road alone just like a porcelain doll—it had drawn his attention. Both her beauty and the opulent outfit she wore caught his eye; a child who can afford LSA clothing was definitely from a wealthy family. However, this child had nobody-—no parents or servants—coming to get her.

She sat quietly in the middle of the road, slept by the curb when she was tired, daydreamed when she was awake. She neither cried nor made noise nor spoke. Last night, during the typhoon, she was still seated there. She disappeared this afternoon, just as he thought her family might have finally picked her up, but then she reappeared, sitting alone on the road eating something from an unknown source.

"Where are your mommy and daddy?"

"They're both dead."

"Nobody's taking care of you?"

The little girl didn't respond or say anything, she just silently bent over to pick up the food on the ground and stuff it into her mouth, making the boy feel a pang of sympathy. He grabbed her wrist, pulling her up from the ground, "Come on, I'll take you to get some food..."

Before he could finish his sentence, his face suddenly changed as if he saw something behind the girl. He quickly picked up the clueless girl and ran into a nearby dead-end alley, carefully hiding behind a trash can.

Silence...

Nobody was speaking, and there was no sound save for the torrential rain crazily pounding the ground. The noise was deafening.

The boy, who had been composed earlier, was now shaking in fear. His hand, gripping the girl's, was trembling uncontrollably.

"What's wrong?" The girl lowered her gaze to look at the boy's hand.

The boy, his blue eyes darting outside of the trash bin, asked, "Didn't you see the people in that black car pulling out a gun?"

The little girl shook her head in confusion, "..."

"Why would they pull out a gun?"

"Because...." The boy hesitated for a moment, "Because they hold a grudge against my dad and want me dead as their revenge."

He knew that this group of people had intended to kill him when he arrived in China. But his numerous bodyguards deterred them.

However, today, when he sneaked out to find the little girl, they must have spotted him. No matter how careful he had been when he left, he was still trailed.
