Su Chaoyang woke up from the same dream for the 1,460th time, his face still tingling from the phantom slap. The image of the young girl's flawless body remained etched in his mind. However, upon reflection, he realized it had been over four years since he last saw her.
She must be twenty now and undoubtedly growing even more beautiful. She most likely forgot about that incident by now. After all, considering the number of times she, Mu Xiangwan, had bullied others, she wouldn't remember every instance, would she?
Still, even if she had forgotten about it, she probably still hated him.
Lost in his musings, a rustling sound from the side prompt Su Chaoyang to ready his sniper rifle in a flash, but it was only his comrade crawling towards him.
"Wild Wolf, how much longer do we need to wait?" Xing Lifeng, his face painted with war colors and clad in a military uniform, inquired in a low voice.
They had been on assignment, lying in wait in a primary rainforest in the southwestern mountains, for two days and a night. They had yet to spot their target. Despite enduring harsh training and numerous battles, the tension was mounting as the night was chilly and there had been heavy rainfall.
The special forces member known as Wild Wolf, was Su Chaoyang himself. He scanned the forest through the scope of his rifle, answering softly, "It should be soon... This kind of weather is perfect for executing missions, they won't miss this opportunity--"
"Hmm."
After a while, Xing Lifeng spoke again, this time in a relaxed tone, "Ah, Wild Wolf, once this mission is over, we should get some rest. What are you planning to do?"
"No plans."
"I plan on visiting my fiancée, I've missed her dearly these past many months. We were all set to get married, but then this mission came up. Although she didn't blame me, I feel guilty."
Xing Lifeng whispered his plans, but Wild Wolf didn't respond. After all, he was always quiet, stoic, and aloof, known in the army as the "Cold-faced God", and everyone was used to it.
"Ah, Wild Wolf, even though you're the youngest among us and only 21 this year... why have you never mentioned anything about girls?"
"..."
"You're handsome, like a movie star, and a skilled soldier. Are there really no girls who like you?" This question had intrigued Xing Lifeng for two years, and today he finally blurted it out.
Su Chaoyang still remained silent, but he had to admit, he wasn't sure whether any girl liked him, but he knew for sure that one despised him, with an intensity that could tear the sky apart.
"Listen to me, after this mission is over, go back and find a good girl to fall in love with. Only when you have someone to care about will you find life meaningful, otherwise, what's the difference between living and being dead?"
Even though Su Chaoyang rarely spoke about his family background, over time, rumors had spread. Everyone knew he was an orphan, raised by a foster family. Given that he had no parents to worry about, having a girlfriend to care for him would surely be better than being alone.
Xing Lifeng's suggestion stirred something within Su Chaoyang, a vision of a slender and determined face came to mind. Yet it only lingered for a moment before he cast it aside.
To make Mu Xiangwan his girlfriend would probably be more difficult than getting a pig to climb a tree. If she were to ever speak to him nicely, it would be tantamount to the sun rising in the west.
