Just as she left the military compound, a military jeep sped towards her. Recognizing it as her father's vehicle, Mu Xiangwan pressed down on the accelerator and drove even faster.
Mu Chenggong had seen his daughter's car exiting the military compound from afar. He was about to warn those beside him about who was in the car, but the red Cayenne had already sped off. He called out through the rolled-down window, "Xiaowan! Xiaowan!"
But he still couldn't stop the "brushing past" red sedan.
Mu Xiangwan looked at her father's car stopping abruptly from the rear-view mirror and his figure leaning out to call her, and she smirked contently.
This beloved car was a birthday gift from her aunt a few months ago. She loved it, and since then, it had become her commuting vehicle. In just a few months, she had gotten the hang of driving it, her driving skills rivaling those of any boy.
Since getting this car, she had become even more elusive, leaving her family increasingly helpless.
Mu Chenggong sat back and said to the military officer sitting upright beside him, "Chaoyang, that's Xiaowan. She must have seen my car and stepped on the gas."
The military officer nodded and replied in a low voice, "I saw her."
Long before the two cars crossed paths, he had spotted the girl inside the oncoming Cayenne.
With her delicate oval face, slender and dark eyebrows, pure features, red lips, white teeth, she looked as innocent as an unadorned lotus flower.
But only he knew how deceptive this seemingly fragile and innocent girl could be, how viperous her heart was.
Such joy, such a gleeful expression dancing in her eyes, what made her so happy?
She must have heard of his return, didn't she? Laughing so happily, she definitely didn't look forward to welcoming him.
So, was she elated because she managed to slip away so effortlessly?
But why did she want to slip away?
Was it because she was scared?
Su Chaoyang glanced at the red Cayenne growing more distant in the rear-view mirror, and an ambitious gleam flashed across his night-like eyes.

Mu Xiangwan wasn't out sketching in the field, she merely used that as an excuse to avoid Su Chaoyang.
After slipping out of the military compound, she called her best friend, Li An'an, and drove straight to her house.
Li An'an was still sleeping. After letting her in, Li An'an yawned and asked, "Why are you up so early? Have classes in the morning?"
Mu Xiangwan carelessly dropped her belongings, took a seat and had a drink of water, "Classes? I'm escaping!"
Li An'an rubbed her eyes, "What do you mean?"
"Su Chaoyang is coming back!"
"Su Chaoyang?" Li An'an paused before catching on, "Oh, your brother?"
Li An'an spent her childhood with her grandparents in the same military complex. It was only two years ago when her parents were reassigned to Beijing, that she moved out and started living with them.
Having grown up together, of course, she knew who Su Chaoyang was and why her best friend wanted to avoid him.
"Ah, Xiaowan, you've both grown up, you're adults now. Can't you let go of what happened when you were kids? You're going to the extent of avoiding him and not going home just because he's back!"
"Ah, I have a grudge against him, you wouldn't understand."
"What grudge?" Isn't it just envy because he always excels in everything and looks like a heartthrob? Is it because she feels inferior?
"It's...he dropped out of school and joined the army because of me. With his outstanding grades, getting into Tsinghua or Peking University would have been easy! But he ended up in the military, such a harsh environment. He didn't come back for four whole years. He's definitely back for revenge!"
