Lin Wei leisurely nibbled on her bread, edging bit by bit towards the edge of the roof.
She stuffed the last piece of bread into her mouth, pulled out a yogurt drink, punctured it with a straw, and lay on the roof, straw dangling from her mouth.
She puffed her cheeks, chewed from left to right, and peeked her head out to survey the alley below.
Under the dim yellow light, a group of five boys occupied the narrow alley.
One was surrounded by the other four, his back against a dilapidated wall. The boy had a white shirt, a casual black tie, unbuttoned to reveal his fair neck.
The boy was delicate-looking, much like a little girl. He wasn't very tall and carried a black bag on him. A Fourth Middle school uniform was tied to the bag.
The four boys cornering him struck me as a bunch of societal misfits - chewing betel nuts, sporting dyed hair, and wearing odd clothing. It was impossible to tell whether they were students or outcasts.
"You're audacious, relying on your good relationship with that idiot Jiang Su. How dare you touch the woman I desire?" The flaxen-haired boy swung a punch at the boy in the middle. "Is Xie Mengyao someone you can lay your hands on so easily?"
The boy turned his head to avoid the outstretched hand of the yellow-haired bully.
The failure of his intimidation seemed to infuriate the yellow-haired bully, and his words grew harsher, "Even that idiot Jiang Su will have to call me uncle when he meets me."
Lin Wei nearly confirmed that the 'Jiang Su' mentioned by the societal misfit was the same 'abbreviation king' she had subtracted 22 points off.
Lin Wei wasn't one to meddle in other's business, so she continued sipping on her yogurt drink, lying on the wall, and watching the drama unfold.
She could sense that even though these four boys were troublemakers, they were not completely fearless.
If they were absolutely fearless, they wouldn't mention the name of Jiang Su so often. It was clear they had some fear for Jiang Su.
The boy in the middle did not appear scared at all. "I never touched Xie Mengyao."
"She wished I did, but I don't fancy her."
Lin Wei: "....."
The four teenage delinquents: "..."
"The reason Xie Mengyao doesn't fancy you is that you are ugly." The schoolmate from Fourth Middle paused, then added, "That's what Xie Mengyao said herself."
Buddy, you sure are fearless!
Lin Wei sipped more yogurt, impressed.
Without surprising Lin Wei, the schoolmate from Fourth Middle had managed to infuriate the four teenage delinquents.
The war of words ended, and the four boys began to throw punches and kicks.
Lin Wei thought, the schoolmate facing this calmly must be someone extraordinary.
But…the result... barely three minutes passed, and the schoolmate was kicked to the ground.
Watching the schoolmate use his bag to protect his head and curling up into a ball as he continues to get beaten.
Lin Wei: "....."
Three seconds later, Lin Wei shook her head and tutted in her mind.
Seems like this schoolmate took quite a beating in his life since he knows how to protect important parts of his body.
The four were ruthless. They beat him for some time without showing signs of stopping.
Lin Wei chewed her straw, heard their bicker for a while, discarded the empty yogurt carton, and pulled out her cellphone.
I want to go to Tsinghua: Are you there?
Public Bookstore: Just got a new delivery, currently sorting.
Public Bookstore: What happened?
I want to go to Tsinghua: shared her location Please hurry over.
After a pause of three seconds. I want to go to Tsinghua: There are four of them.
Public Bookstore: Just four? I won't come. You can take care of it.
Lin Wei: "..."
I want to go to Tsinghua: I can't get blood on me.
I want to go to Tsinghua: I need to go to Tsinghua.
Public Bookstore:…
Public Bookstore: Wait for me. 5 minutes.
I want to go to Tsinghua: Ok.
I want to go to Tsinghua: Remember to bring some exam papers for me. I am almost done with the previous papers.
Public Bookstore: …
Before "Public Bookstore" arrived, the bullies had their hands on the schoolboy's belt. As it was just about to be unfastened, Lin Wei threw the empty yogurt carton at them.
Her casual movement proved to be accurate, as the carton hit the head of the boy unfastening his belt.
"Dammit! Who was that?" As they yelled and looked in the direction of the thrown yogurt carton, they spotted a figure lying on the roof.
Twin jet black eyes could be seen glaring at them, her face being concealed by her own hand.
When she noticed their gaze, Lin Wei tilted her head and showed the back of her head to the boys below, "I would only be sixteen after my birthday next month."
"I am still a minor."
"I am not supposed to see explicit content."
After a short while, the boys finally noticed that there had been a person on the roof.
A girl, even.
Her soft voice sounded like a lost princess.
Before they could recover from their surprise, "Public Bookstore" arrived.
The boys were nothing but bullies preying on schoolmates who couldn't fight. When they encountered "Public Bookstore," they were like children meeting their father; beaten down in minutes, left moaning on the floor.
Lin Wei appeared indifferent, her expression calm.
The classmate from Fourth Middle was propped against a corner, calmly buttoning up his shirt.
The four punks struggled to stand up but were stopped by "Public Bookstore" before they could run away.
They squatted terrified on the ground, clutching their heads.
"Public Bookstore" rummaged through his pockets, pulled out a few business cards, and tossed one in front of each of them, "If you want to study well and need some reference books, remember to find me."
The four of them glanced at each other, and nobody picked up the business cards.
"Public Bookstore" frowned. The next second, the four of them scrambled to grab the cards and scampered away.
The remaining schoolmate stood up with the help of the wall, "Thank you."
"Public Bookstore" handed over another business card, "You're welcome. Do you need any reference materials, classmate?"
Before the schoolmate could respond, a voice came from the entrance of the alley, "City Lord."
Lin Wei turned upon hearing the voice, to see a man in a black jacket rushing in.
Following him was a young teen with one hand in his pocket and the other one holding a cell phone, looking down at the screen.
