Chapter 11 - A Place to Live

I once saw a beautiful scene in the magazine book that the old woman used to bring. It depicted a vast land, full of grass and forests.

As I stood there, the sun shone brightly on my pale skin. It felt warm and comfortable. Maybe it was still early in the morning.

I drew in and exhaled loudly with a satisfied feeling.

Then I looked back.

I looked at my employee, who was standing, waiting for instructions.

Nearly two weeks ago, after that morning, the pointless voting program ended, and the house became more and more quiet. The sun started to set. Thirty people left the residence.

Although I would still listen when Mrs. Matilda and Mr. Aaron came to me privately to discuss the matter further and try to admit that it was all their fault, I insisted on my determination.

They assumed that all of that was light and insignificant to be thrown away.

"If rotten fruit was combined with good fruit in one place, the potential for other fruit to become mouldy was vastly faster," I replied while reading the children's book.

"...plus, I am not throwing you away, I am firing you," I went on with it, but they were both silent.

That evening, as I looked at them walking out the entrance door from the study room, I felt empty. The sentiment was the same as when I was a cat.

However, regardless of how it feels, my will to move was finalised. The next day, I took my handmaiden, Ms Hazel out of the house to purchase land.

At that time, I never thought this place called a town was this big before. The old woman's house is right in the middle of the town in this capital and can easily be accessed everywhere.

But, how can I describe the capital area? It is booming, with buildings going up and things happening. Unfortunately, this place is smelly because of the less-than-perfect drains and also the smell of people.

Only wealthy people bathe every day. Well, the ordinary people looked very smokey and dirty from all the coal fires and cold in the winter which here, took longer than in other seasons, made them bath only twice a week.

As I walked through the building, I paused, my head focused on one of the areas.

There is a device that consists of a blade hung between two poles that forcefully upon and slice through the neck of a prone victim.

They called it the guillotine.

Then, I thought to myself.

This capital has indeed been a very law-abiding time, partly because that area is for prosecution for hanged or beheaded.

"Mr White," called the maid.

"Right," I said, as I followed her from behind.

It took me thirty minutes to agree on the land, which cost me twenty kilograms of a gold bar.

"How much would you be willing to pay for the price of the land, Mr White?"

"How much would the estimated values would be?"

"Ho, ho, ho. Mr White, there were a few people who were willing to buy nine kilograms of gold bar," he said, trying to make a higher agreement with me.

"How many?"

"A few,"

I'd say that 'a few' would be two or three people at least. The land is lovely, but it is far from the capital, and this capital is most likely to live nearby because it is near the royal palace, which the public considers secure.

However, I don't want it to be a long discussion.

"Then, twenty kilograms of gold bar, I am paying it now."

"Deal!" He says, filled with excitement on his face.

"Delightful," I responded.

The area is indeed an area that is far more backward than the capital area but, in the next few years, it will become a focus area for traders due to its proximity to the sea even though my land is close to a forest area. But still, it's a little close.

If I am right about this, a gold ticket would be an easy task.

And all thanks to the old woman.

"You look happy, Mr White," approaches the handmaiden.

"Indeed," while smiling at her.

Slowly glance at 6 people who have just arrived.

It took us fifteen days to arrive, and there would be a lot of work to accomplish.

Started with the ancient mansion.

This is private land, well I will say it is an estate. There are only a few people who live near this area, and most of them are farmers.

It may take two hours to get to my place by horse.

If seen from where we were standing, many trees were growing around the mansion area. Maybe I could use the tree as wood to build a stable, and from here, entering the front entrance of the mansion, the grass was knee-length. Many of the stones used to make the road have sunk and been pulled out.

I need some people to start with the outside area, and the rest will be done on the inside.

As I looked at the expressions on their tired faces from the long journey, I thought again, if the rest time takes a day, the cleaning work will not be finished quickly.

"Let's have some rest, then we will continue working at noon. We will begin inside the mansion if we need it to sleep, eat, and bathe," explain me.

Then again, I was mum as they walked inside the mansion, I was wondering.

I didn't know each of their names. They called each other's names, but I was less susceptible to that.

If I ask, is that weird?

Well, it is very feasible but even in these nearly three weeks, I've been behaving strangely because I'm not the Mr White they've known all this time.

I could tell by looking at their face, how odd they felt around me.

Perhaps I can learn something if I make a change around here.

I, who had finished eating breakfast, wandered around the old mansion area while everyone was still eating their breakfast.

There are already many creeping leaves that are growing in the interior in most places outside the walls. But it still looks solid, and there are no signs of damage to the walls and floor.

How can I utter about the rooms here, There are so many rooms.

"This mansion has fifty rooms. How was your room in that old residence?" Ask me while looking at a girl with thick glasses shaped like a square and braided in two.
