"Don't worry." Raquil interrupted. "I wasn't trying to hurt her."
"Of course not," Lux said. "You're just testing her skills."
"Exactly. That's why she needs to be able to defend herself. If she sustains a hit, it will highlight her inexperience. If she avoids a hit, it could indicate that she possesses a unique quality.
"Alright, fine." Lux relented. "But don't go easy on her either."
"No promises," Raquil said with a grin.
They waited in silence for several seconds. Then Chloe tensed, ready for another attack. When nothing came, Lux turned to her.
"Are you okay?" he whispered.
Chloe nodded.
Raquil fired again, this time at Chloe's shoulder. She blocked it too, but the force sent her stumbling back.
Lux helped her steady herself. "Okay, so you need more practice defending yourself against ranged weapons. By the way, what is your power?"
