Chapter 6 - Who Sent You?

Lux recognized him immediately, Detective David.

"Detective David, right?" Lux greeted.

David nodded.

"Oh, hey! Do you remember me?" The detective asked.

"Of course, you're the guy who helped Chloe with the case when I wasn't available."

David grinned. "Yeah, do you mind if we talk for a bit?"

"Sure." Lux took a sip of coffee. "Anything in particular?"

"Actually, yeah." David said, leaning across the table towards Lux.

"Okay, what's up?"

"You know, if you aren't really interested in the case, you could always back out."

"Why would I do that?" Lux asked.

"Because you might get in trouble."

"Whoa, hold on a minute. Why would I get in trouble?"

"I'm telling you now, so you have a chance to save yourself."

"No thanks, I'm good."

David sighed and stood up.

"Fine,if it means that much to you..." He muttered before heading away.

"The fuck...." Lux shook his head before directing his attention to the reports in his hand.

After a few minutes, David returned.

"Hey Lux, how about we meet later?" He asked.

"Sounds good." Lux agreed.

Later that night, Lux found himself in an isolated building. David was there as well.

"So what's going on?" Lux asked.

"I told you earlier that you should stay out of this investigation, didn't I?" David replied.

"Yes, you did." Lux replied. "Why?"

"Because you'll only end up getting hurt."

"How do you know I won't be fine?" Lux asked.

"Look, I'm not trying to scare you. But you've been involved in too many cases already. You haven't had a break since you were first hired. It's time you take a rest."

"I don't need one."

"Believe me, you do. Let me do you the honor of putting you to rest myself." David said as he pulled out a gun.

Lux quickly grabbed David's wrist, pulling the gun away from him.

"What the hell are you thinking?! Are you insane?!" Lux shouted.

David looked at his gun on the floor as he lunged at Lux, aiming his fists at his chin and sending a blow.

Lux dodged it easily, grabbing his wrists and pushing him backwards.

David rushed at him again, using his right leg to push Lux onto his back, pinning him down.

He brought his left fist, punching Lux on the cheek.

"Stop this!"

Suddenly, Lux's hair turned white, and his eyes changed color.

David stopped, looking down at Lux's body.

"What the...?" He muttered.

"I did say you should stop."

He appeared right in front of David, grabbing his neck and slamming him into the wall.

"Now listen here, you piece of sh*t. He warned you once."

With an open palm, he slammed him again into the wall, making a loud cracking noise.

"Who sent you?"

David fell to the ground, coughing and clutching his chest.

"Why should I tell you that?" He wheezed.

"Because I can make things worse than they already are."

He grabbed him by the throat, squeezing hard, forcing David's hands to fall by his sides.

"Let go!" David begged.

"If you tell me who he is, I might just spare your life."

"Tell me who you are first."

"Me?" He let out a loud laugh. "You can call me Hunter. Now tell me who sent you."

"And you'll spare me?"

"Sure."

"He calls himself R, and if you are Lux, he says you might meet very soon."

"Hmmmm...."

"What are you thinking about?"

"How to dispose of your body before Lux comes back."

"So you aren't Lu-"

He snapped his neck and dragged his body down outside the building.

Ring Ring!

Lux opened his eyes as the sunlight hit him, immediately waking him up completely.

He looked at his phone ringing close to his bed as he rolled over and picked it up.

"Hello?" he answered.

"It's me, Chloe; head over to the station ASAP. Its urgent."

"Ok, I'm on my way." He hung up and jumped out of bed.

As he changed into his clothes, he saw a note on his bed.

-Watch Your Back Next Time-

"Next time? Wait.... Didn't I meet David yesterday? What happened?"

He was crumbling the note as he realized the note was written in his handwriting.

Paying no attention, he threw the note in the dustbin before closing the door behind him.

As Lux arrived at the station, he noticed a few officers running around frantically with their heads down.

"Excuse me." Lux called out.

They all turned around and gave him confused looks.

"Do you guys know what happened? Is everything okay?"

One of them spoke up.

"Detective David is dead. Suicide. We haven't found his body; we only found the note."

Lux walked into the office as he sat across from Chloe. "I heard what happened."

"That's not all. Dr. Rut was kidnapped. Apparently, the killer left a note saying he would be coming live today with some important news." Chloe told him.

"I have a feeling this guy has something to do with the murders and Dr. Rut being kidnapped. And also, there is something weird going on with Detective David's death. If someone killed him, then why didn't the killer leave the body somewhere else for us to find?"

Chloe sighed. "The kidnapper probably knows where David's body will be found. So he took the body so nobody could see it, and also so people wouldn't notice the murder."

"Exactly!" Lux exclaimed. "But why, David?"

"Detective Chloe, we are on a call now from the killer." An officer passed the tablet to Chloe, who set it between the two of them and began recording.

**

"Hello Everyone.... So as you might already know, I'm the killer you have all been looking for, and today I'll be ending my killing spree." He said he was smiling. "This is how I will be killing him." He paused and got a loaded gun ready. "I'll shoot him in the heart." He smiled as he pointed the gun towards Dr. Rut's chest.

Dr. Rut screamed as the gun was pointed at him, "Pls don't kill me."

He shot Dr. Rut through the heart. "Thank you everyone. Now for the final act."

He pointed the gun at his own head and shot himself. The room echoed from the sound of the gun as the video continued playing. Chloe disconnected and stopped recording.

Lux slumped back into his seat. The room went silent for a moment.

"He killed Dr. Rut, then committed suicide. What kind of monster would do that?" Chloe asked.

"Well, it doesn't really matter now, does it?" Lux replied.

"No. It matters more than ever."
