Chen Liechu jumped when she heard the bang at the door.
" Who is that?" she asked her voice filled with nervousness.
" I don't know who would be out, we were told not to leave our homes." Li Jiefan said pretending to be confused.
" Maybe someone needs help and we were the closest house." Chen Liechu said, always the optimist.
Li Jiefan looked at her and tried not to let the worry she had for her friend show. The regressor had always known that Chen Liechu was a very kind person who sees the best in people but Li Jiefan was now realising how her optimistic attitude could hold her back, or worse. " Let's be careful, we don't know what is going on and why we are supposed to stay inside."
Chen Liechu nodded thoughtfully and disappeared into the kitchen, quickly coming back to the living room with a knife." Can you open the door." She asked quietly,
Bang!
She jumping again cluthing her knife closer at the sound of another bang.
Li Jiefan nodded following her friends lead, walking to the kitchen and grabbing a pan out of the cupboard, " I will open the door slightly and can you just check who it is." she said coming walking back to her friend with a fake quiver in her voice.
Chen Liechu gulped and nudged her head toward the door, signaling for Li Jiefan to go first. Li Jiefan took a deep breath and walked toward the front door.
Bang!
Even though Li Jiefan was exaggerating her fear she was not faking her anxioity. This was her first time facing a zombie since she had regressed and she was nervous. Her abilities had not fully manifested again and what if she slipped up and died now, before she could find out who set her up and get her revenge. No, she would not mess up now, she was going to make sure the person who killed her died as awful a death as her. Li Jiefan refocused her attention toward the door and adjusted her grip on the pan she was holding.
The door had been banging for awhile now at a consistent tempo but the bangs were now getting faster.
Bang!
" Or maybe it's just a very large dog that's hungry or lost or something." Chen Liechu suggested.
Bang!Bang!
" Maybe." Li Jiefan whisper as they got to the door.
Li Jiefan put her hand on the door handle and turned to Chen Liechu,"I am going to open this door on three okay," Chen Liechu nodded quickly.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
" One," Chen Liechu breathed in, " Two," She breathed out," Three." Li Jiefan quickly open the door slightly and immediately a weight pushed against the door.
Li Jiefan pushed herself against the door to keep whatever was trying to get in, out.
" What is that is that!?" Chen Liechu whisper yelled, " Is that a person."
A hand shot in through the crack in the door, grabbing at Chen Liechu's shirt but she quickly sliced down with the knife onto it's wrist, cutting halfway through the the limb. The frightened girl pulled her knife out the limb as the arm made another grab at her chopping all the way through appendage, chopping the creature's hand off.
Li Jiefan slammed her body against the door trying to push the creature out but since her regression she had forgotten how strong zombies were. The zombie pushed back against her, refusing to be pushed out, still reaching through the door with it's handless arm.
" Help!" Li Jiefan called to Chen Liechu who was stuck looking at the hand on the floor. Chen Liechu quickly woke up, looked at the door and stood next to her friend pushing back trying to help Li Jiefan closed.
After attempting to push the door closed three times Chen Liechu realised that the creatures arm was jamming the door, keeping it open so she decided to take a different approach.
Chen Liechu walked in front of the door.
" What are you doing?" Li Jiefan asked her voiced strained showing the effort she was exerting trying to close the door.
"Closing the door." Chen Liechu stated kicking the zombie, pushing it out the door and giving Li Jiefan the oppurtunity to slam the door closed.
Li Jiefan breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Chen Liechu impressed, all her worries about Chen Liechu being too soft seemed to be unfounded.
" What? I am the captain of our university"s gymnastics team, I work great under pressure. Did you doubt my skills." Chen Liechu said with a smirk, flipping her head and crossing her arms.
Li Jiefan laughed and slid down the wall," Doubt you? No, never."
" Good." Chen Liechu said. They both chuckled softly, staying there for a moment as they let the recent events sink in, Chen Liechu slowly lost her smile and dropped her arms her face turning grim.
" What was that thing? It looked human but it wasn't speaking, just groaning," Chen Liechu said softly," It's skin was gray and it's eyes were red,like zombies from the movies."
Li Jiefan looked at her friend, " Yeah, it looks like something out of a zombie movie."
" Is that thing why we-" Chen Liechu was cut off by a screech coming from the window.
Li Jiefan scrambled to her feet and walked to the window with her friend hot on her heels.
" Is it the same zombie from the door?" The long haired girl asked getting to the window first, hesitantly opening it to see what was outside.
"Are there more than one?" Li Jiefan replied with a question looking over her friend's shoulder.
Chen Liechu breathed in as she saw the scene outside. Multiple zombies outside, banging on doors, trying to escape homes and walking in and out of buildings.
" This must be why they told us to stay home, we are in a zombie apocolypse," Chen Liechu laughed breathily and continued,"Fuck, I can not believe we are in an apocalypse."
" I can not believe it either." Li Jiefan lied while she scanned the area, taking stock of the amount of zombies in the street and the clearest paths they could take tomorrow. They would need to start scavenging tomorrow before people got the balls to leave their homes and realised how bad the situation was. She hoped Chen Liechu would agree and they could get it knocked out tomorrow.
" I think we should take stock of what's in the house. We don"t know how long we will be trapped here."Chen Liechu suggested after a few moment of silence.
" I agree." Li Jiefan responded walking away from the window.
A screech rang out through the house.
" This is going to be a long night." Chen Liechu whispered.
