The crisp evening air swirled around Gabriel and Ethan as they neared Mylo's cottage. A warm glow emanated from the windows, beckoning them inside. Mylo, Taran, and Mara's father, opened the door before they even knocked. Mylo was a middle aged man with flowing locks of jet black hair and a pair of blue eyes, his smile strained when he saw us. "Gabriel, Ethan, come in, come in."
Inside, the air hung heavy with an awkward tension. Ethan took notice of how Mara shared an uncanny resemblance with Kat, Mylo's wife, who sat by the fireplace, knitting furiously, she had an innocent pretty face just like Mara, her brow furrowed. A quick exchange of pleasantries filled the silence, but Kat's forced smile didn't reach her eyes. She retreated further into her knitting as Mylo and Gabriel settled in the sitting room.
Ethan, sensing the disharmony, excused himself. "I'll go catch up with Taran and Mara," he mumbled, leaving a knot of unease in his wake.
