When Margaret snapped out of it, she had a sense of impending doom.
The door banged, soon swung open by attendants. Meeting their puzzled gazes, she offered no explanation, only tugged at Charlotte's skirt to cover her exposed legs.
"Seal off this place. No one leaves, and no word gets out."
Margaret wiped her face forcefully, stood up with Charlotte in her arms, "Leave two people behind, escort me to Mulberry Lane."
She couldn't leave Charlotte here.
Sending her back to the Boston estate was out of the question; the Viscount of Boston wouldn't consider his daughter's welfare. Instead, to appease the fury of the Dylan family, he might even offer up the body for disposal, regardless of consequences.
Margaret didn't want the Dylan family to know Charlotte was the killer. She needed to buy enough time to fabricate a more plausible and discreet cause of death for Charlie, one that would deflect the Dylan family's anger away from anyone.
