My plans, I had to change them. Major changes had to be made, in fact! All because one of the worst elements that I did not consider!
Heck! It's practically impossible to predict there could be someone with fire magic! How am I even supposed to counter that?!
"Calm down…" I told myself before taking a deep breath. I knew very well that panicking would bring me nowhere. I'd need more than just critical thinking to overcome the challenges posed by the magic, after all. I needed something more…
'But what is it that I need exactly?' I started wondering with a calm mind, thinking of everything I could muster out as a valid plan.
The space of the tunnel-like path was around three square meters, maybe a bit more. This was enough for me to evade attacks, that is if the attack isn't one that could easily spread in all directions!
Right now, I actually couldn't think of a better solution, no matter how much I tried. Actually, there wasn't any small advantage, tool, or anything in my sight that I could use to devise a way out of my predicament!
"There is nothing we can do..." Wise words from Napoleon Bonparte fit this situation perfectly.
"Sigh…" I felt devastated.
Eventually, I had lost all hope of being able to come up with something. I lacked too much information. Way too much! It was like I was dealing with an in-game boss with a level of question marks! Lots of question marks!
At last. With not a single shed of hope, I decided to go for the desperate approach. The suicidal one…
'Who knows… Maybe by the time I get there, that man will be too exhausted to the point that I just need to blow out some air for him to fall.' I tried to convince myself with illusionary sweet words, all so that my legs wouldn't start to stiffen when I would get closer to the enemy!
As I approached closer to the light, the situation that I had been completely ignorant of and could only make an assumption of, was finally revealed before my eyes. I had entered the enemies' radius, where they could notice me easily.
Right now, because the enemies were still too occupied with their battle, they had yet to notice me. However, they will soon, as long as they look my way and squint their eyes a little.
The battle that was going on, at first I almost didn't believe what I was seeing. However, after snapping out of my surprise, I quickly realized that the situation might just be the norm in this world.
A giant centipede, unlike those referred to as giant centipedes on Earth. No, in fact, the fact that people named the thirty centimeters centipede a giant would be an insult to this creature before me!
Right now, my quivering eyes were staring at a whopping three-meter-long centipede! Although I can't be certain about its exact length and width, that thing was certainly way bigger than that one-robed guy it was facing. It was that big, and black, and the way it wriggled its body was so disgusting and so nerve wrecking!
The hair on my arms was standing straight. I was getting goosebumps, looking at the centipede that was like a creature drawn from nightmares. Its front legs had a few charred human body parts, and on its body, there were a few traces of cooked blood!
At that point, it became clear to me that I saw the blood and body parts of humans on it. The unknown person who was throwing blasts of fire now and then, he was the last man standing. His comrades, they had all died after challenging this giant of a centipede and failing to subdue it…
My eyes shook as I looked at one leg of the centipede and quickly turned to look at another, and continued to do so for a few seconds. I realized how scary the monster was, to the point it had struck my nerves!
I started retreating. The scare I got was enough to influence my trembling legs.
Without me even being aware, I had already backed away far enough to see the centipede becoming less visible. The surroundings were starting to become dim again, and my body, finally felt less restricted. The fear plastered on my body was starting to subside…
However, my legs felt weak, forcing me to sit down and take a deep breath. What I had seen just a minute ago was the real deal in this world. The real deal as in, the beginning of what couldn't make this world any better!
People that hate my kind, my kind possibly becoming like zombies when in extreme hunger, my kind being subjected to possibly becoming slaves, magic being a reality in this world, monsters in this world!
And based on what I saw, magic is not even enough for the average person to face against a monster in a random cave!
'Just what is this hell of a world that I've reincarnated into?!'
My thoughts were screaming inside my mind. This overwhelming chaotic world that I had reincarnated into made me feel like going insane! It made me feel like I should just go to where I hid the sword so I could free myself from this absurd world!
But what if I get reincarnated again, and in a world much worse than this?
I really wanted to die at this point, but I knew I couldn't, for fear of the next terrible reincarnation. Perhaps that is the reason why I've been struggling so much to survive and to avoid death and accidents that can lead to such an ending…
*Screechh!*
A loud and sharp, deafening noise suddenly assaulted my ears. It appeared to be the centipede from earlier, either in a fit of rage, pain or perhaps both.
'Did that man finally manage to subdue it?!' I thought as I listened to the cries of the giant centipede.
Earlier, the centipede didn't even seem to have a bit of damage on it. Every one of its limbs was still intact and attached to its designated spots, and its body seemed to be completely fine.
'Could it be that it couldn't handle fire anymore, and now it is desperately trying to destroy the source of it?'
I was curious, but knew that I wouldn't get any answers unless I went back to where I could see the spectacle unfold!
