Chapter 33 - I Thought You Were Smart

[Sorry but I can't help you]

"But I'll die, these pirates are way stronger than me," Kruxe pleaded.

That he had managed to make it this far was already a huge miracle, but with the way things were at the moment Kruxe doubted he would be able to replicate that miracle for him and his mother because, for one, he couldn't even get her out of her cage.

Right now, the voice in his head who had somehow granted him the power to escape death and make a gun appear out of thin air was the only thing Kruxe could turn to.

[ Kruxe I can't help you, I am not a free will that does as it wishes, I am an autonomous will, one programmed on how to accomplish certain tasks, no matter how much you pled with me I can't help you beyond what I am supposed to.

The only thing I can tell you at the moment is that you are way over your head, you should retreat]

Hearing the words in his head, Kruxe felt a wave of defeat begin to encapsulate him, but then his eyes suddenly brightened.

"I remember now, back when I was drowning, you promised, you said you would help me rescue my mother, this is my mother.

I don't care how you do it, make her disappear from here or something, you don't need to save me, just save her, that was the condition we had before I agreed to be your candidate."

Remembering the events that had transpired when he had been about to drown, a surge of hope began bubbling within Kruxe, the voice in his head had splayed more than enough powers to assure Kruxe of its existence.

If the voice were to keep its end of the bargain, then he would be forever grateful to it, everything would be okay as long as his mother was taken away, he would just have to worry about how he would escape.

[ My words weren't that I would save your mother Kruxe, but rather you would be able to, and there were also other conditions I mentioned but you were screaming 'yes' all through and didn't hear me out]

With the words of the voice, another cold water came pouring over Kruxe's hopes, sending his mood crashing and despair flooding his being.

"But I'll do anything you want, just save her" Kruxe began begging, trying to fight through the despair that was threatening to drown him, looking for a light.

[I can't]

With this answer, Kruxe drowned and began sinking into the depths of despair.

All the bravado and commitment Kruxe had made to save his mother was flushed away as he realized that he was on his own.

As someone who tended to be pragmatic most of the time, Kruxe realized his full situation and as the voice had said, he was way over his head, he had bitten far more than he could chew.

Take away the gifts the voice had granted him and Seth would have been dead before reaching his mother.

Right now, Kruxe was even meant to be dead, with the voice's refusal, it meant Kruxe was now on his own, but the problem was that what was he on his own.

Kruxe didn't regret coming to save his mother, rather he regretted why he had been born to her.

Kruxe fell so far into despair that he didn't realize when Zolink left and he began crying, tears flowing down his eyes.

"ding"

"ding…"

This sound went out several times, but Kruxe didn't pay attention to it, degrading thoughts of himself filling his head.

With each hit, the sound went louder till eventually it rang in Kruxe's head making him look up to a horrible scene.

There was his mother kneeling in front of her cage, her forehead covered in blood as she wept.

"Mom" Kruxe croaked out, only then realizing that he was back to his body, and without delay he rapidly crawled over to his mother, reaching between the bars of the cage and taking out the piece of cloth stuffed in her mouth, he was just about to clean the blood on her face when she hit his hand with her head and moved backwards.

"What do you think you're doing"

"Your head, your bleeding," Kruxe said.

"Well, if you are so worried about me bleeding, then you shouldn't have let me here smashing my head against the wall, trying to get your attention."

"I'm sorry" Kruxe choked.

"Come close let me …"

"Let you do what" Amelia, said with hostility, tears no longer coming down her face.

"What the hell is Cletina thinking bringing you down here" Amelia questioned with anger.

"Cletina is dead" Kruxe said, his words, making his mother's eyes widen in shock, her mouth open and close several times and then her expression turned sad.

"So, who helped you get down here" Amelia asked.

"No, one I came on my own."

"You're telling me you sneaked onto a ship headed by a D-rank pirate all on your own?" Amelia asked, but while her words sounded like praise, the anger Kruxe could see in her eyes told him it wasn't.

"I had no idea about the captain".

"I thought you were smart, why would you sneak atop a ship you have no idea about"

"To save you" Kruxe nearly roared, tears once more coming don his eyes.

"Do you think I'll just let someone take you away, I saw the ship, and knowing that you were on it, there was no way I could just let it go."

Despite Kruxe's words, Amelia's tight gaze did not let up, it instead narrowed.

"Well then, save me," Amelia said.

"..."

"You came to save me right, well get me out of this cage, then head on to kill those two that were here."

The sarcasm in Amelia's words had Kruxe keeping silent, unable to give a reply.

"Did you for once consider that you would die?" Amelia asked, and this time her words got a reaction out of Kruxe.

"Every step of the way I thought of death, and though I was scared, because of you I persisted on." Kruxe cried in frustration.

"Well did you ever think of what would happen to me if you died?" Amelia asked and when Kruxe stayed silent she spoke.

"Emotions are just emotions Kruxe, they won't get you anywhere, no matter if you desire something the most, neither the world nor people will offer them to you, and that is the reality.

Just because you desire to save me doesn't mean you would, and if you think you can so easily throw away your life, then I'm going to tell you right now, that if you die, so will I, suicide will be a heaven for me"

After speaking, Amelia went silent and when she saw no reaction from Kruxe, she spoke once more.

"What are you still doing here, get out, I don't know how you survived the first time, but I have no intention of watching you die the second time, the minute I see someone come down this floor and you're still here, I'm killing myself"

With her eyes staring into his, Kruxe knew his mother was dead serious.

He wanted to say a word, but she beat him to it.

"Get out now"

Various thoughts went to Kruxe's head, and staring into the eyes of his mother which looked nothing like he had ever seen, Kruxe moved his shaky legs and stood up, and with near wobbly steps, he walked away.
