Chapter 30 - Monster

With the sounding of the voice, Kruxe froze, and this reaction wasn't particular to him as all the voices that had been hammering at him also went silent.

Two seconds later, Kruxe got over his shock and quickly turned around to face his foe, pistol in hand.

"Kruxe run" Amelia began whispering like making her voice low was going to stop the people around her from hearing what she said, but this was how desperate she was at the moment.

Throughout her few days of captivity, she had spent them worrying about her son, wanting to know if she was okay, but now that she had seen him, she regretted all her wishes.

If the price for her prayers to be answered was for her dearly beloved child to come and die before her, then it was better she had died in agony, never knowing of his fate.

Kruxe could hear his mother's new low cries, he could hear the genuine anguish as she begged him to flee, deluding herself to the fact that the words which she spoke with a low tone could only be heard by him.

Were his mother of a calm mind, perhaps she would have understood that at this point Kruxe didn't even have the option to flee, but Kruxe didn't blame her, instead, he blamed himself for his patheticness at being unable to do a thing.

Knowing his priorities, Kruxe ignored his mother, entering a state where the only person who existed and mattered was the man in front of him, and that was the truth.

The man before Kruxe was a little bit taller than him, sporting a small round cap on his head, an unbuttoned coat on his upper body, along trousers that rapidly tapered at its ending.

At the moment, every other plan Kruxe had hinged on how he would deal with the man before him.

"The cage behind you is made of Ruiguin mixed with steel, it's a product of the Missilota pass.

Even if I leave you here for a year, you won't be able to make a scratch on it with that little toy of yours except maybe you get a cannon." The newly arrived man slowly went on to explain.

Though Kruxe hadn't had a proper look at the two individuals at the foredeck of the ship when he had just climbed out of the sea, there was no way he could forget the nature of the voices he had overheard.

Kruxe was more than sure that the man before him was one of these men, and he could not help but worry.

"A cannon, how many blasts do you think it would take me to destroy the cage" Kruxe forced out after the man was done talking, suppressing the fear within himself.

From the conversation he overheard, Kruxe would have thought the man was a person of few words, but it would seem he had a knack for flaunting his knowledge or something like that, and Kruxe thought to use this to his advantage.

With him just having fired off both the two shots of his pistol not too long ago, Kruxe still needed a few seconds for the gun to fully reload, so he decided to stall.

"Well," the man said putting a hand to his chin and then moving forward, his sudden action almost making Kruxe pee his pants but thankfully the man only took a single step, that step getting him closer to the cage which he began feeling up.

"I would say three cannon blasts on exactly the same spot. Are you thinking of finding a canon to blast her out?"

"Something like that," Kruxe answered, and then after that quickly asked to activate the reveal option in his head.

"Well and how do you plan on doing that?" the man said, cocking his head to the side when he noticed Kruxe had on a stunned expression.

"How is this even possible," Kruxe thought looking at the screen that had popped up in front of him.

[

Name: Preda Zolink (wandering magician)

Rank: E

PowerPoint: 7304pp

]

Maruge had just been 700pp, yet Kruxe had found the man almost impossible to kill, just barely winning the fight against him.

Now this man called Zolink was here boasting a PowerPoint of 7304.

"Can I even graze him" Kruxe wondered.

"Hey kid, did you hear me" a voice sounded as a hand waved just a few meters in front of Kruxe, alerting him to the fact that he had blanked out so badly that he had failed to even notice Zolink walk closer to him.

"Sorry, what did you say" Kruxe rapidly asked, his body nearly shivering at their proximity

"Hmm, I was just interested in how you planned to get a cannon down here and free your mother."

"Oh that's easy," Kruxe said, panicking and just spewing anything that came to his head out of his mouth.

"I'll lay the clothes over there on the stairs and then go…," this was all Kruxe could say before stopping as something incredible happened.

In his fear and panic of the moment, still struggling to take in the fact that Zolink was a monster, and that the monster was but about a step away from him, Kruxe went all out in his explanation.

As he spoke, he raised his left hand and pointed at what should be sail cloths folded at the back, and when he saw Zolink actually turn his head to look back, a choice was presented before Kruxe.

Die now or die later.

Time was short, the odds were heavily stacked against him, and there was no guarantee that there was going to be another opportunity like this.

Kruxe remembered his determination to die or save his mother, and with this in mind, he made his decision.

With Kruxe having suddenly stopped his explanation which Zolink for some reason was interested in, Zolink turned his head back to face Kruxe, and Kruxe not even waiting for his head to be fully turned emptied his fully reloaded pistol on Zolink's left eye.

So many emotions had been running through Kruxe's mind just before he pulled the trigger, the fear of missing being a very prominent, one, but thankfully Zolink was but merely an arm's reach from him, and it wasn't like Kruxe hadn't used firearms before.

Immediately Kruxe fired the shots, he stumbled a little bit backwards, his legs trembling and tension filling his body, threatening to send him falling to his knees, well that was until he saw the results of his actions.
