Chapter 8 - Game On

As they walked away, Amber rushed forward to stay beside Ajax.

"Step away. At least 10 feet." Ajax warned with a stern look.

Amber rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath, "are we still doing this?"

Ajax sighed. "I heard you. Hurry up." They came out from the elevator and walked to his office in silence.

Amber saw people stare at them in shock, pointing to her and talking.

His office had this door like a flat: a door that opened to his fingerprints only. It also had a code system, but he didn't punch in any code.

"Wow it's lovely in here. And spacious." Amber was forced to say. It was not only perfect but dreamy to her. She could see the whole world from his huge glass window!

"Sit down, weird lady." Ajax said.

She did so immediately, taking the seat opposite his royalty chair and desk.

"You said I won't ever have to see your face again. I liked that part of you. And now, unless you want me to think this is the face of another woman…"

"I know. I'm sorry." Amber said instantly. "I know I said all of those things and maybe even more. But I need this job!"

"You are so clingy, you know that right? Thinking you can just tell me, 'hey, I need ten million dollars!' and I'll send it straight to your account, huh!" Ajax said, trying to imitate her voice at the mention of what her demand sounded like.

It was then Amber realized she had been forcing herself all over him! For some reason, she was happy to be all jittery like she were high on caffeine, around him. But she isn't like that.

"You're right." She said at last. "But let me say this. I am not usually like this! I promise, I just need this job for one month! And that's it. I won't ever bother you again. I can even tell Ava too so after one month, she can kick me out herself."

Ajax was staring at her with disbelief. Damn, the robot witch woman with the sweet tongue!

"You just really have to bare with me, please. One month is all I'm asking for." she added.

"You know, I am really uncomfortable at the way you try to act like we're best friends and all. I am Ajax, not Ava! You should treat me with respect." He corrected, raising his head up high like a college professor to his student.

Amber swallowed, thinking of what nect to say. Then she smacked her lips and continued. "Okay then, I'm sorry, sir. I'll call you sir from now on. And …Mr. Hulls!"

"Please, just call me Ajax. I'm not exactly very proud of my last name." He snorted. "Makes me sound like some Disney evil character."

"Okay, I'm sorry then. Mr. Ajax it is!." She said back.

Ajax frowned grew thicker again. All he really heard from her response was a loud fat sarcasm.

Finally, he came to a conclusion, and his frown transformed into a smile.

"Alright then. I'll give you a job here, but only on one condition. You work as my P.A," he said.

"Oh that's fine by me sir. I would gladly accept–"

"--you become an official staff one you've sent all your necessary documents and passed the interview stage. That should take about a week." Ajax cut her off.

"Oh okay sir. No problem–"

"--go to the admin department and find out all the necessary documents you'll need to submit. And get it done soon."

"Y–yes sir. I will, right now." she got up to her feet.

"Who said you could leave?" Ajax's brows furrowed.

Amber slowly sank back in her seat. "I'm sorry sir–"

"--you talk too much. Don't you know how to meditate?" Ajax shot her a puzzled look, as if waiting for an answer.

Amber paused at first, then she went on. "Meditate? I–I don't understand."

A loud sigh escaped from his lips and he shook his head in pity. "Honestly, this is a very hard position for you and for me. I think you should just quit."

"No way!" she replied almost at an instance.

"Maybe you should go home and think about it."

"I've made up my mind already. I'm here now and I'll do whatever it takes." she assured, although it only made Ajax more angry.

"Okay then, nevertheless, you have resumed work today." He said. She wanted to work by all means, even when he told her not to? Then he was about to make her life at work a living hell.

"I have a first job for you already." He said. Her eyes shone brightly towards him.

Although she was still a little confused. Wasn't he going to give her a little training? An introduction to the company's business? Introduction to the rest of the team?

But she didn't dare ask, so she replied. "I'm listening, sir."

Ajax leaned back in his seat. "I.like that you're a good listener. Now listen carefully." He paused and smiled, seeing he'd gotten her full attention.

Then he said. "Bring me two cups of coffee. Black."

Amber didn't hear him well. She blinked and waited for the real task. Ajax was still not saying anything.

"Wait, are you for real? You want me to…go make coffee as my first task?" She asked again, trying to make sense of his request.

Ajax nodded proudly. "Black. I drink only black coffee please. Hurry back here in the next 10 minutes!" He added in a strong tone.

But…I don't know my way around here! Is this even the setting of a proper company?? Don't they have protocols here?? She wondered loudly in her mind.

"You're still here?" Ajax frowned at her. "Emily, where's my coffee?"

"Amber. My name is Amber." she corrected.

"Sorry, Doris. My coffee, now."

What? Doris??

Oh this was his game?. To frustrate her till she gave up??

Oh the game is so on! Because she's not going anywhere.
