It had been a week later and Hudson was still mad at Amber. After her threat that they should leave the house, he instantly told her he was only joking and pleaded on his sister's behalf.
And for these days, she avoided Hudson. Even though he never made attempts to make up with her anyway. Besides, at work, Kira and her minions try so hard to make life unbearable for her so she couldn't care less how Hudson treats her.
Everyone kept away from her like she was a mad woman, and for once, she enjoyed the peace.
That morning, she was making toast only for herself when Hudson made it to the kitchen.
"Will you make mine too? Honey, I've missed your meals." He said, smiling from ear to ear.
Amber frowned and said nothing, but she was happy he was speaking to her now.
"Okay fine. How long are we going to continue with this, huh? You're my wife, Amber. Why do you hate me so much?" He demanded.
Amber sighed and turned to face him. "Hate you? I don't! You caused this, okay?"
"And I've been trying to make things up since. Can you imagine, you and your friend have turned enemies because of your stubborn head."
"Sabrina chose to become my enemy and you caused this too. You kept on calling her and reporting our family affairs to her."
"Because she's your friend. And I was scared I was losing you. Please call her for me, okay." Hudson said.
Amber raised a brow. "Why do you care? Did she call you and report me to you?"
Hudson froze. This just made Amber roll her eyes.
"Just stay out of this. And stop trying to get me to quit my job." Amber said.
"Hey, if you stop working right now, I'll make it up to you. I'll buy you cake and w–"
Amber scoffed, "--wine? You'll buy me cake and wine? Hudson that's not enough, it was never enough when your intentions were still the same."
"But you–"
"What will I do with the cake, huh? Is that enough to make me quit my job? I am married but I'm still so alone. How can you stop that from ever happening? You go around having your way with pretty ladies and all I do is stay here at home, and wait for you to ever treat me right!"
Her eyes flared as she spat out her rage. Hudson said nothing.
"I miss the Hudson who proposed to me at the cinema when dozens of people were yelling that we were blocking the TV." She giggled as she remembered. "You loved me back then, but now, I'm not so sure anymore."
Finally, Hudson spoke again. "You've left me no choice, Amber. You are my wife and you should be submissive to me. From now on, I think we should really get that divorce."
Amber's heart ached as she heard him, but she didn't falter.
"I'll get a new apartment and we'll all move out. That's what will happen. Just give me some more time." He said, and with that, he walked out.
At his workplace, his boss began to yell as soon as he sighted him. "You son of a bitch! Look at what you've done! I knew you couldn't handle this project!"
Hudson rushed over to meet him and lowered his head like in a bow. "Mr. Jerry, it's so good to see you."
"Shut the hell up! What have you got to say for yourself, huh? I pitied you when you were crying everywhere that you needed a job. You got paid well and now, you still do a nonsense job? I can't take it anymore!"
Hudson knew that his boss had always complained about his work, even though he was struggling to be good. But he couldn't get fired now, not after he had bragged to his wife he would leave the house!
"I'm trying my best sir. I'll make it up to you sir." Hudson said. "You have to give me another chance sir. I'm a family man!"
The man sneered. "Family man my foot! I know how you make Amber suffer. You seem to forget that we've known each other for years now. Running around with ladies at work here. You think I don't know?"
Hudson stared down in embarrassment.
"I'm only considering that young lady at home, Amber. Else, you would have received your sack letter right now. I'll give you one last chance."
"Ah thank you so much sir, I really appreciate this–"
"--if you can strike a partnership deal with any famous company. We'll need all the advertisements that we can get now. Say uh, A&A for example. Yes. Meet with the Hulls family, either the handsome boy or his beautiful sister. And you'll get your job secured."
Hudson felt the man was speaking another language. How could he ever meet those famous people and strike a deal with them!
"But sir–"
"You have two weeks to wow me. After that, say goodbye to your job." Mr. Jerry said and walked away from him.
Hudson frowned and scratched his head in frustration. Then a thought formed in his mind.
"Wait, isn't that the same company Sabrina said Amber works at??" Pleasant thoughts were forming in his mind now.
"Of course, all I need to do is to have a new conversation with Amber and she'll land me this deal! Wow, for the first time, I'm so grateful you work, Amber." Hudson jumped up in happiness.
