As I observed the wall of the cavern with an intense focus, Roy, ever attentive to my demeanor, couldn't help but notice the frown etched across my face. Sensing his curiosity, I motioned for him to come closer, my voice lowered to a hushed tone.
"Roy," I began, the seriousness in my tone reflecting the urgency of what I was about to tell him "I need you to fall back into the middle of our formation. Once there, shout with all your might that monsters are closing in. Unsheath your sword and turn your gaze toward the cavern walls. Trust me; I'll handle the rest."
Roy's eyes widened slightly as he absorbed the weight of my instructions. The tension in the air became palpable, and he couldn't help but voice his curiosity.
"Is it your ability?" he asked, his tone tinged with a hint of apprehension.
With a faint, almost whispered voice, I confirmed, "You already know the answer. Obey me, and I will ensure you're adequately rewarded. A small nice and cozy land all for you to be inherited by your sons...."
It seemed that the lure of potential rewards overcame his fear, as he nodded and dutifully followed my instructions. As I watched him fall back into the middle of the formation, a subtle smile crept across my face, satisfaction emanating from my plan being set into motion.
That was all that I could do, the rest was to be done by the soldiers.
I built the stage for them, and now it was time to let them do their damn work....
Soon enough, Roy's voice pierced through the cavern, resonating with urgency. "Monsters! Monsters are here!" he shouted, unsheathing his sword and swiftly turning his gaze toward the cavern wall, executing the precise actions I had instructed him to take. The commotion spread through the ranks as the soldiers reacted to the alarm, their formations shifting in response to the perceived threat.
I took a deep breath, my voice echoing through the cavern as I shouted, "Something is moving through the wall! Monsters are hiding behind it! It's an ambush!" The urgency in my tone carried across the cavern, alerting the troops to the imminent danger.
The princess, Victor, my father, and Alistair swiftly turned towards me, their eyes reflecting concern and urgency. I met their gaze and quickly explained, "I saw movement behind the wall through the holes. Those openings are probably to allow air to get inside the wall, and they have been planning an ambush." My words hung in the air as the gravity of the situation sank in.
"Form up in squares! Ready your mana guns!" Victor's commanding voice echoed through the cavern. Without hesitation, the soldiers obeyed, swiftly organizing themselves into tight defensive formations. Each soldier armed their mana guns, aiming them at the suspicious wall, ready to confront whatever threat lurked behind it. The air crackled with tension as the army braced for the impending ambush
A resounding blast echoed through the cavern as a mana cannon shot directly at the wall. The impact created a breach, revealing the hidden monsters within. The air was filled with the shrieks and growls of the startled creatures as they faced the sudden assault, many green and brown limbs were spread throughout the breach, as the result of receiving a mana cannon in the chest was the same as a cannon from hearth.Limbs and flesh exploding into bits.....
A triumphant smile crossed my face as I witnessed the success of the plan. It seemed my strategy had worked, and the hidden threat was now exposed, vulnerable to the army's counterattack.
In quick succession, the other seven cannons followed suit, unleashing their devastating energy upon the wall. The cavern resounded with the intensified shrieks and growls of the monsters as they were exposed to the onslaught of magical firepower. The combined assault of the mana cannons revealed the true extent of the lurking danger, turning the hidden ambush into a chaotic battlefield.
The troops emerged from the concealed openings in the walls, small square holes covered with black boards to remain unseen. Even I had failed to notice their presence. Swiftly forming into squares, the soldiers unleashed a barrage of mana gunshots at the revealed monsters. The projectiles pierced through the creatures, eliciting green blood as the goblins, trolls, and kobolds, previously hidden in the shadows, now found themselves exposed to the relentless assault. The cavern transformed into a chaotic battleground, with soldiers and monsters locked in a fierce struggle for dominance.
My father moved resolutely toward the horde of enemies, prompting a perplexed look from me.
What the fuck is he doing?Does he want to die and pass the title to me?It is still too soon for that , damn it, I have plans to accomplish and I can not be chained up in the county as a lord yet...
However, I quickly realized that he wasn't alone in his actions. The others, including Victor, the princess, and Alistair, were also moving to intercept the monsters, abandoning their positions at the wall to face the approaching threat head-on.
Cursing under my breath, I reluctantly joined the others, striding toward the oncoming horde of monsters. The abrupt shift in strategy had caught me off guard, and my frustration simmered beneath the surface as we prepared to engage the creatures in direct combat.
Why the hell did they not let me stay behind? It would have been nice to sit back out of this dungeon to be on the lookout
As I looked around, my eyes fell towards a fat filled monster, a troll.
The troll moved forward, a massive and ugly sight. It was much bigger than a goblin, with lots of fat hanging from its large body. A bad smell came from its mouth, making the whole scene even more unpleasant. The creature's eyes showed a fierce intelligence, and it held rough weapons in its huge hands. As it came closer, the ground shook, and its deep growls filled the cavern, signaling a powerful enemy. The troll, acting on instinct and anger, approached its target – me.
The troll raised its club high, bringing it down with tremendous force. I made a quick decision, realizing I couldn't parry such a powerful blow. Instead, I unsheathed my sword and grabbed the dagger from behind my back. I preferred the dual-wield approach as it was the style that suited me most.
The troll's club struck the ground with a force that made the cavern floor shake. I quickly sidestepped the attack, narrowly avoiding the impact. I couldn't help but be surprised at the sheer strength behind its swing. "Bloody hell, these creatures are stronger than they look," I muttered to myself, before taking advantage of the fact that the creature had no armor , seems like they were still ill-prepared for our arrival, which was a good thing for me.
I swiftly swung my sword at the troll's feet, the blade cutting through the heel bone with a sharp precision. Green blood splattered as the beast howled in pain, collapsing to the ground and clutching its injured heel. Wasting no time, I turned behind its back, immediately thrusting my sword through its spine. The blade passed through smoothly, and the creature thrashed around for a moment before finally succumbing, lying still with my sword embedded in its back.
As I attempted to retrieve my sword from the fallen troll, I found it firmly lodged and unable to retrieve it. Feeling steps approaching, I turned around to see a small goblin, barely half my height, charging toward me with an ill-made sword.
''Fucking hell'' I muttered as I abandoned my efforts with the sword and swiftly drew my dagger, the goblin run towards me with his sword raised high, leaving all his chest exposed.
Deciding to take advantage of that I hurled my dagger, and it struck the goblin in the stomach. It would have been a nice throw, if it wasn't for the fact I had aimed at the chest....I always sucked at throwing things
Despite the initial hit, the creature remained alive, shrieking in pain. ''It will be a bit before he dies and I certainly do not have the leisure to wait. Closing the distance, I ran towards the goblin, swiftly grabbing the hilt of the dagger with my right hand. With my left, I delivered a sharp jab at the goblin's neck, making it choke and desert the sword he held , before exerting force on the dagger's hilt, making it cut further upward. After a moment, I pulled the dagger free.
The goblin shrieked and crumpled to the ground, its life extinguished. As If I was swapping off a fly, I leaped forward, bringing my knee down to its neck, ending its suffering on the spot, or at least I think....as the goblin stopped moving after that. I casually wiped my face clean of the goblin's green blood and turned around, catching Victor's gaze.
He seemed surprised by how effortlessly I dispatched the two enemies. Victor offered a nod of approval, accompanied by a faint smile,as he was probably impressed since this was my first fight....must say I too am surprised by how skilled I am.I thought I would have been much more clumsy on my first fight, and instead I was pleasantly surprised by my skills.
Unfortunately, Victor could not entertain a discussion with me as he immediately turned back to the front, skillfully dispatching a kobold that tried to strike him with a well-aimed lance strike, that however missed the commander entirely....
