Chapter 1 - Chapter 1:Inside ''The call of Narain''

Hey guys consider reading my new work , Steel and Sorrow: Rise of the mercenary king

-------------------------------------

Her delicate hands, adorned with gold rings, rested gently on her husband's broad shoulders. Long, raven-black hair cascaded down her back, and though the passage of time had etched a few lines of life's challenges on her face, the vestiges of beauty still remained.

She pleaded with Laurence, her husband, dressed in elegant attire with a silver pocket watch chain dangling from his waistcoat.

"Darling, please calm down," she said softly. "Our son is in a difficult situation. Give him the space he needs, I'm sure he'll find his way."

"Nonsense! He's been holed up for two days!" Laurence exclaimed, rubbing his temples. "He's a nobleman and it's time he started acting like one."

"Please try to understand," she persisted. "He defended his honor and unfortunately failed. Let him handle this in his own way. Remember how wild you were in your youth?"

But Laurence remained resolute: "He's had enough time to sulk. It's time for him to grow up." With a commanding tone, he turned to their butler Rox and barked out an order, "Rox, fetch Favian immediately. Tell him I demand his presence at lunch, and he is not to invent any excuse."

The silver-haired butler stood tall and stoic, meeting Laurence's sharp gaze without flinching.

Politely acknowledging the order, Rox then turned to Svetlanne with a comforting rumble in his voice, "Madam, perhaps it would be beneficial for the young master to have a familiar face by his side during these trying times."

Svetlanne let out a defeated sigh and waved them away.

With a respectful bow, Rox made his way towards the task at hand, passing by other servants who all showed reverence towards him. His silver hair gleamed as he walked through the ornate halls towards the young master's room.

Reaching the grand door, Rox stopped and took a deep breath before rapping on the door with his gloved hand, the sound echoing down the corridor. "May I enter, young master?" he asked politely, his voice laced with concern

Favian's POV:

I stood rigidly by the window, gazing out at the darkened landscape with a sense of desperation gnawing at my insides. The surreal scene outside felt like a twisted dream, as if the answers to my predicament were hidden among the rustling leaves and distant sounds echoing from the cursed mansion and yet they were not ,as my answers were not to be given by no one but me .

Turning away from the window, I caught a glimpse of myself in a nearby mirror. My once neatly styled black hair now hung disheveled around my face, mirroring the chaotic mix of emotions churning inside me. As I met my own tired gaze in the reflection, I couldn't help but feel like a stranger in this body and this world. It had only been a day since I woke up here, but it felt like an eternity as I struggled to come to terms with the fact that I had somehow transmigrated into this strange life.

Normally, I would relish in the chance to start anew after all my life until now had sucked , but not under these circumstances. No, because I, or rather he, had already fucked everything up, and I had to be the one to clean after the shit he made.

What's worse was that with each passing moment, the incessant shouting in my mind grew louder and more intense, driving me closer to madness. But above all else, looming over me like a shadow ready to consume me whole, was the knowledge that death was waiting for me just days away, possibly even tonight.....

"HOW DARE YOU STEAL MY BODY! " The one bellowing inside my head and who I was totally ignoring, was none other than Favian Delecroix, the first antagonist from an old novel I had read, "The Call of Narain."

In the story, Favian's only purpose was to serve as a stepping stone for the protagonist, Lucas Grey. Despite his unimpressive name, Lucas was incredibly skilled and powerful, actually cut that out he was downright OP. And wouldn't you know it - now that crazy bastard was after me! Normally, I would avoid someone like Lucas at all costs, like a mouse dodging a cat. But fate had other plans and now I was stuck in this insane predicament, with a sword dangling down on my neck.

The reason for that was actually stupid as fuck , as all of this shit-show , wouldn't you know it was caused by a girl...the name of the bitch was Elenoir and apparently both Favian and Lucas were interested in her. And guess who Elenoir has her heart set on? That's right, none other than Lucas himself. So now we have a classic love triangle situation, with Favian foolishly challenging Lucas to a duel in an attempt to win Elenoir's affections. And let me tell you, it did not end well for him. Lucas completely dominated the fight and handed Favian's ass on a silver platter.

Furious, Favian's response was to burn down Lucas's parents' grain-field – the only freaking source of sustenance for his family. And here I am, in Favian's body, with Lucas's grudge, but unfortunately lacking any skill , what's over as Favian was literally the first one face-slapped by the mc, and he was of course weak as fuck. So, yeah, not exactly the smoothest start to my grand adventure.

Ignoring Favian's rumbling I tried to think of ways to turn around the situation I was in when suddenly a knock from my door broke me from my reverie. "Can I come in, young master?" and old voice asked , respectful and tinged with concern.

I asked with a mix of curiosity and irritation, not expecting an answer I would like.

"Who is this?"

A old voice responded, "It's me, Rox, young master. Your father requests your presence at the table."

Panic flooded through me. After all , I did not know how Favian usually behaved.

Call me overly-cautious but I preferred to make sure that my family did not suspect that some entity took over their son. Which in this world was totally possible, as people commonly made deals with devils to get something like power or riches, which many times, required them however to lose their soul, after a set amount of time.

Favian's voice continued to cry out in my mind, begging for help. But I knew Rox couldn't hear him.I had to maintain my facade and divert attention.

"Please tell my father I will join him soon."There was a strange silence before Rox calmly replied, "Very well, young master. I will inform your father."

I could sense his confusion and doubts about my abrupt change in behavior. Was Favian also a man-child with his family?Or more clearly was he also a fucked up at home?

''ROX, WHERE ARE YOU GOING? PLEASE HELP ME!" Favian's pleas continued, but I knew Rox was oblivious to them.

''GIVE ME BACK MY BODY'' he then shouted like a broken disc to me .And honestly I had enough of his shouting , I seriously need to do something to solve this....else I will go crazy even before I'll have my head cut off.

"It's no use," I muttered to myself, trying to block out Favian's relentless questions and pleas for help. "I don't know how or why I possessed your body, and I have no intention of returning it to you. Just stay quiet and let me handle things." Blaming Favian for my predicament, I felt no remorse in silencing him.

"YOU CANNOT JUST TAKE OVER MY LIFE! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!" Favian protested, his voice echoing with indignation.

"Hey, blame the cosmic mix-up, not me. I was minding my own business, sleeping, and then bam, here I am," I retorted, adopting a nonchalant tone despite the absurdity of the situation.

''Anyway, it's not like you would have survived long anyway,'' I said as I opened the wardrobe to dress myself.

''WHAT DO YOU MEAN?'' The real Favian asked in confusion.

''Make of it what you want. "

Anyway, I will have to deal with him and all of this as either Lucas kills me, or I will go crazy from that guy's shouting. What a shitty situation....

Anyway, back to my choice of dressing, I settled on a black shirt paired with charcoal gray trousers. The shirt was adorned with subtle golden patterns, which made it a lot more elegant. As I buttoned it up, I couldn't help but appreciate the quality of the fabric – clearly a far cry from the attire I was accustomed to in my previous life. Hell, I once stood with the same T-shirt for a week and a half, so this is certainly an upgrade.

Leaving the room in my newfound style, I couldn't help but notice the subtle whispers among the household staff as I passed by. I hate when people speak behind someone's back. Yet I knew better than to raise an argument right now.

Approaching a door from which lively voices emanated, I took a moment to compose myself before entering.

''Please, Honey, let me do my work.... It's time that he grows some balls; we can't continue to spoil him. How is he supposed to take up my mantle once I retire? Because our house is certainly going to shit if we don't do som-'' The voices paused as I entered, and all eyes turned toward me.
