"Hasegawa, come to the school rooftop on lunch time."
"What?"
As Fuyumi says this, she walks past Ren with such cold pale silver eyes, with extravagant silver hair, you could tell me that it was like looking at an iceberg, and I would believe it.
Ren's instincts tell him that if he does not go, he's dead meat.
What is she going to do to me?
Flashback
My name is Fuyumi Chiaki.
I had an abusive family, I was abandoned when I was 7 years old, but luckily, a foster family adopted me, and taught me this:
Never get involved with men.
At first, when they told me this, I was confused.
I was talking to my foster mother about school, and how I would fit in the crowd, and my mother taught me an extremely important tip.
"If you get involved with men, there will be a plentiful of envious eyes. Some will bully you, some will support you, and finally, some would go out of their way to kill you."
No way.. People would go out of their way to kill, just because of a love interest?
"I say this from personal experience. Because my lovely sister got involved with men, and she got assassinated."
"I don't want you to end up like her."
This cruel world...
I did follow my mother's sayings, but it was different when I met him.
For some reason, I felt comfortable while talking to him, it was like talking to a best friend for life, and his interests were the same as mine.
But that's not what made me very close friends to him.
It's because I saw a glimpse of him writing a novel.
I wanted to ask him a question of what novel he was making, but I didn't get the chance.
What deepened our bond, was a dream. I dreamt about his novel, and he dreamt about my novel.
It was like fate was connecting itself, a red string of fate.
Lunch Time - 12:00pm
As the loud school bell rings, the class teacher's voice saying the class is dismissed, the murmurs about a certain gossip, all simultaneously hitting Ren, he walks slowly, but surely, to the school rooftop.
As Ren was walking up the stairs, he bumps into a yellow haired 2nd year boy.
"Hey, watch where you're going!"
Ren flinched as the boy says, this, and immediately by instinct, he apologizes.
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"It's alright, my name is Kousuke Ryu. Nice to meet ya!"
Kousuke then becomes more comfortable with Ren, which Ren felt awkward since he has never been in a relationship as actual real friends, so Ren laughs it off.
"Oh.. Hello. My name is Ren Hasegawa. Let's be friends!"
As the two were talking, Ren interrupts him, saying that he has something important to do in the school rooftop.
"But, I'll head to the rooftop for a moment. Alright?"
"Alright.."
But what important thing could be waiting for him in the rooftop?
Kousuke thinks of this as he genuinely ponders on what kind of important thing was in the rooftop.
As Ren was walking up the stairs, more carefully and stealthily, he scales up the floors one by one.
Ren focuses his attention to walking up the stairs, once more.
Slowly but surely, he goes up the stairs each floor, until he reached the door that leads to the rooftop.
The pressure was intense. So intense that if it were to be in a movie, it would be classified as thriller.
Ren stands on the door that would lead him to the very rooftop, where Fuyumi was waiting for him. He hesitates.
Ren gulps, and hearing the echoing winds, the dripping of water of the AC, the sound of the leaves hitting the floor, and the loud silence.
Creakk..
Finally, Ren opens the door, then seeing Fuyumi, standing upright, like a kangaroo, with a menacing look.
"Hey, Hasegawa, come talk to me for a minute."
A moment of silence strikes between them both for around 15 seconds.
Until one, finally talks about something. Ren started the conversation first, sweating profusely, he asks this one question he mentioned earlier.
"What novel did you dream about?"
This gives Fuyumi a sigh of relief, and keeps calm since she knows what to say.
"As I said earlier, the story as about a romance story between a high school boy named Shin, and a high school girl name Naomi."
Ren's eyes then filled with genuine curiosity, a desperate look to know more about this.
"Alright, fine. I'll tell you the continuation in narration form."
While the Japanese were celebrating the traditional new year, also known as Shōgatsu (正月).
In a city where there were booths, stands, and stalls everywhere, as far as the eye could see. Filled to the brim with people wearing kimonos, the couple struggles to find a perfect spot to see the colorful and beautiful fireworks.
But, they saw a perfect space. A moderately high cliff, with the edges covered with wooden fences, there was a giant rock facing upright to the emerald green grass, which coincidentally, was a perfect fit for 2 people to sit on.
Millions of couples and single people wished themselves a happy new year, so does another couple, another couple, and finally, Shin and Naomi themselves.
It was truly something for the end of a chapter.
While Fuyumi was narrating the story, and Ren taking down notes, Fuyumi changes the topic and transfers to another certain topic.
"So, you dreamt about a novel made by Akita?"
Right when Fuyumi asks this certain question to Ren, Ren couldn't help but be honest in answering since there is no point in lying.
"Yeah, I did."
"I don't know if you would believe me but.. I am Akita."
The echoing winds grew, the silence was getting louder, and she looked pretty while looking at Ren, dead at the eyes.
Ren thinks of all the events that happened to him the past days, and the puzzle pieces finally connected. Furthermore, he thinks that it must be the "red string of fate".
Knowing this, Ren's brain has gathered new information, with neurons connecting each other, and the satisfying feeling of finally figuring something out.
With the stunning view of the city, and the ambient light of the background, Ren unknowingly smiles at Fuyumi, which then she smiles as well.
Fuyumi knowing this, she asks Ren.
"So, shall we finish writing a chapter of our novel?"
