Chapter 5 - 05- Interludes.

Emily Piggot, Director of the Protectorate ENE.

It has been rather stressful these past few days, with the advent of some new Tinker who somehow managed to destroy a boat with a single blast, and managed to get away from Armsmaster when he arrived.

I'd been sitting at my desk, writing out another request for more Parahuman assistance for Brockton Bay. A request that I knew would be denied once again when I had gotten the news.

A Tinker was caught on camera in the Boat Graveyard testing some sort of Tinkertech that ended up blowing up an entire cruise liner, with the sound of the blast shattering the windows of buildings five blocks over.

It didn't help that one of their earlier tests had ended up hitting a small fishing boat from over twenty miles away in the middle of the ocean… at least until it was investigated, and found that the inconspicuous fishing boat was actually a drug mule for the ABB. So that was a quick and easy arrest, at least.

What was most worrying was the fact that a Tinker that I hadn't ever heard of before, had managed to get enough materials to create such a weapon under our noses.

They couldn't be connected to any of the major gangs of Brockton Bay, because we'd have gotten some manner of information about them from the scant few moles that we have.

So this either had to be a more minor player like Coil or The Merchants, or this new Tinker was an independent testing out their technology somewhere that they didn't expect to be caught.

Armsmaster had been sent to check out the disturbance, and reported that he had seen the back of a person wearing a blue hooded jacket, but nothing else. He didn't think to chase, as he believed that the Parahuman was still in the Boat Graveyard.

From what we could gather from the recordings, the Parahuman was a young man of average height, wearing a 2008 limited edition Armsmaster Halloween mask with slight wear and tear due to age, along with a blue hooded jacket with the left sleeve ripped off due to the Tinkertech device, along with a pair of simple beige cargo pants and black sneakers.

The current theory is that the Tinker is capable of creating modular devices, as the arm was shown to be a similar blue color to the Tinkertech gun, and the shifting was shown on camera along with the jacket tearing apart upon transformation. Perhaps the arm was a prosthetic? At least, that's what the Thinkers were theorizing.

There wasn't any current official name for the Tinker, though some of the PRT Troopers have taken to calling him Rock Man, after an old Japanese game series, due to the similarities of the Tinkertech blaster to the titular character's weapon.

…I swear to God, if we have another Uber & Leet on our hands, I'm going to scream.

It was at this moment, that one of the paper pushers walked in, a scared look on his face, he had several papers in his hands as well.

"Um, Director Piggot?" The man asked, as I glared at him.

"What is it?" I demanded, as I leaned forward which caused the man to straighten up in fear.

"Uh, we've gotten more news- about Rock Man?" The man said, stammering slightly.

"Well, out with it man. What has he done?" I asked, internally dreading whatever they could have done… after all, their debut had them destroying a cruise liner. The only way they could escalate from that would be by killing Lung or singlehandedly dismantling the E88.

"Of course, he's out and riding on a… dog bike? It looks like one of the robots from the Rock Man games?" The man said, causing me to growl in anger before I shooed him away.

He left quickly, passing some papers to me, before leaving my office.

Of all things, did it have to be another Uber and Leet!? Just the pair was bad enough.

"God damn it" I muttered to myself, placing my palm to my face, before I once again wrote a request for more Parahuman assistance. Even though I already knew that they wouldn't accept it.

Sean Fischbach/Uber.

I was sitting in a small dark room, scrawling on PHO as my best friend slept in the top bunk of the bunk bed beside me, when I saw something pretty interesting…

"A new Cape?" I muttered to myself, clicking on the link. Leet had made sure that we wouldn't get any viruses from clicking shady links anymore, so I was a lot more confident doing those sorts of things.

Upon clicking on the link, I found a PHO Thread talking about the latest Cape of Brockton Bay.

Looking at the thread, I found an image of the Cape in question and saw that they were wearing a pretty normal 'first outing' outfit with a blue jacket and an Armsmaster mask… and wait a fucking second, wasn't that fucking Rock Man's Rock Buster?

"Leet! Leet wake up!" I said, tapping him on the leg, causing my snoring friend to quickly get up, nearly falling out of bed as he did so.

"Whaa? What's going on!?" Leet, or rather Felix asked as he looked around blearily, as he climbed out of the bed and grabbed his glasses, "What is it, Sean? I've got an exam tomorrow, dude"

"Dude! Look!" I said, as I grabbed his head and turned him around to the screen, as his eyes widened.

"Is that… holy shit is that Rock Man's Rock Buster!? What the hell!?" Felix asked, suddenly wide awake from shock as he looked at the person on the screen.

As we were looking at it though, I refreshed the page to see if anything else had popped up… and found the Holy Grail.

"Is that the motherfucking Rush Bike!?" Felix demanded, as he sat next to me, quickly turning on his own monitor to look at the thread with his own eyes.

Finally… finally, we've found someone who knows true culture. A fellow nerd… one who has heard the gospel of gaming!

"We need to get this guy on our team," I said with a grin, as I could already imagine it! The Terrible Trio of Uber, Leet, and… this random guy!

This wasn't anything like Robo-Master, that hack who didn't even understand the most basic references… no, this was a man of culture! A fellow thespian of the digital arts!

It was going to be absolutely glorious! It was time… for the Gaming Master Race to rise up!

"So…" Felix started, leaning back in his chair as he looked at me, "What do you think about Chinese for lunch?"

"That is an excellent suggestion, my man!" I said, giving him a high five as I internally chose Tailoring as my next skill… I had to make the costumes for the next stream, after all.

Maybe we should go as Dr. Wiley and Metal Man? Out to take out the heroic do-gooder that was Rock Man?

…We might have to workshop that plot a bit. But hopefully, it'll make for a good stream.
