Chapter 18 - The Rune Book, unsolved mystery

Almost a minute later Aldin was at the count's castle.

After thinking about the book for that long, Aldin's curiosity would have pushed him to insanity if he did not deal with It as soon as he could.

He rushed into the house and took the book and the runed cores before he left for Ariz's castle, as he flew over the city the guards knew who it was and did not even bother trying to stop him with the armour he had made them. When he got into the castle Ariz walked out to meet him.

He had seen Aldin approaching through the window of his office.

"How can I help you master?" Ariz asked bowing to Aldin. Ariz's aide did so as well although he was shocked to see that.

"I need you to take me to the fourth tower, and you don't have to worry about the city I brought the three runed cores," Aldin said and took them out of his pocket including the one he had on his wrist.

"Here give to the guards and let them fly in the sky where they can view the whole city, and do not activate it unless it is a hundred percent necessary," Aldin continued then showed a demonstration of their effect, light, fire and wind.

"Now let us go," Aldin said grabbing Ariz's hand.

Ariz rose in the air and using what Aldin had taught him, they flew to the fourth tower at an extremely fast speed.

As they approached Aldin could see the tower from afar with his great vision and without a word he overtook Ariz and at an even higher speed flew straight ahead at the tower.

As he got closer the tower's defences activated and tempests formed in the air around him with sharp blades ready to tear at him.

Aldin had no time for them and with one move he unleashed take over and the spell broke down, nothing was going to be taking him down easily, from the castle a group of men appeared next to Aldin in an Instant and they each had a sword in their hands, they aimed at Aldin's side, and before he could react his sides had been slashed and a wound had been opened.

Aldin did not wince as they slashed him but he grabbed both of the men who were attacking him and slammed them together knocking them unconscious and causing them to drop to the ground. He moved forward and he was met by two other men, they too aimed to attack him but before they could, " STOP!" A voice shouted from above them.

It was Alastor, he approached them.

"This is Aldin Randell, my esteemed guest, get back to your positions," Alastor continued.

As he came down to where Aldin was he looked at the wounds on his side, when he got there they were already healed.

'That is ancient magic for you,' Alastor thought to himself.

"What brings you here to the fourth tower," Alastor asked.

At the moment Ariz got to where Aldin was, as he drew close he witnessed one of the tower knights getting picked from the ground.

How string is Aldin?' Ariz thought to himself as he got to where Aldin and Alastor were.

"What brings you here to the fourth tower?" Ariz heard Alastor ask Aldin.

"What is this book?" Aldin said raising it up.

When Alastor saw the book Aldin was holding he was slightly shocked.

'I wonder why he is curious that he came all the way here just to ask about it,' Alastor thought to himself.

"It is a rune book, why are you curious about it?" Alastor asked.

"Because it keeps on bugging me, could you tell me more details about it?" Aldin demanded of Alastor.

"Sure, it is a rune book but different from normal rune books, normal rune books are just records of runes and their capabilities, none of them ever have the runes drawn in them but this one is different.

"How so?" Aldin asked.

"Because these have the intentions drawn in," Alastor said.

"What!" Aldin said shocked.

"Yes, if you fill it with mana it activates and the effect takes place," Alastor said.

"Then why does every time I look at it I feel something from it," Aldin said.

"That's odd, that has never happened before, I am afraid I can not help you with that," Alastor said.

"Thank you for the help," Aldin said feeling down. He turned back ready to leave.

"Wait, your beasts were processed would you like the money we got from it ?" Alastor asked before Aldin could leave.

"Sure, " Aldin replied.

"Then come in as they process the payment," Alastor said.

"Okay," Aldin said and he followed Alastor to a balcony on the top of the building. They got into Alastor's office and sat at around a table in the middle of the room.

Ariz and Aldin sat at the table as Alastor went out to communicate his orders.

'What is it with this book, if it was written such a long time ago, why does nobody know anything about it, and what is so different about ancient magic and the magic we use today?' Aldin thought to himself, deeply puzzled.

Alastor came back in a few moments later.

''Sorry for keeping you all waiting," Alastor said.

"No problem," Alastor said a bit nervous, after all, it was nerve-wracking to speak to his boss so casually.

"I presume everything is fine back at Aden? Alastor asked.

"Yes, everything is alright, everything has been better ever since Aldin made us armour, the guards have a much easier time dealing with crime, in the next year we aim to get rid of the slums," Ariz said.

"How does armour really help," Alastor asked.

"Well, the armour Aldin makes is actually inscribed with an array and he even made runed beast cores and they are great," Ariz said.

"Wait what?!" Alastor asked since some of the information was really confusing, " Could you tell me that in detail?"

Meanwhile, Aldin was in his own word with his thoughts carrying him away.

The rune book still bugged him a lot. Ariz began explaining the details of Aldin's inventions to Alastor, with all the words coming off of his mouth Alastor got more and more shocked at how advanced Aldin's magic was.

Suddenly a lady came in with two men behind her, they each had a sack of gold each.

"Tower master here is the total amount," the lady said.

Alastor looked at them with a bit of confusion, he was still not used to the fact that Aldin was a wonder maker and was in a slight daze.

"Had theme over to him," Alastor said still shocked and stunned.

The attendants were surprised at who they would be giving but not the less they handed it over to him.

"Ariz I am going back home, I am not sure whether we will have a lecture tomorrow," Aldin said before zooming away in the next second sending the attendants into a small panic.

The attendant left leaving Alastor and Ariz to their chat.

Azriz continued to explain to Alastor all that Aldin had taught him in their period together, outside word of Ariz's arrival had begun spreading around and the longer he stayed in there chatting with Alastor the longer word spread until it got to his students and his friend, Oliver.

When they were done talking Ariz left, he would have flown away but when he looked down he could see his students.

He flew down to them and immediately they all flocked around him.

"Where have you been master?" One of the students asked.

"You just up and left," Another said.

"I had to do some work for the tower master," Ariz said.

"And when are you coming back?" Another asked.

"I have no idea," Ariz said since he really did not.

'But if you want you can come pay me a visit at Aden?" Ariz continued.

"What are you doing there?" A student asked.

'I am the acting count," Ariz said proudly, and such a position was an honour.

"Cool," A student said.

"Yeah cool," Oliver said from the sidelines.

"Oliver nice to see you," Ariz said hugging his friend.

"How have you been there?' Oliver asked.

"It's great, you should pay the place a visit," Arix said.

"I will when I have the time," Oliver said.

They all chatted for a while before Arix had to leave,

Arix flew fast through the sky headed to his castle.

Meanwhile, Aldin who had gotten home earlier was in his room after dinner, He still had the rune on his mind, he opened the book and kept on looking at the rune, the feeling of something hidden in it still had not left him.

In the end, he got tired and went to bed.

He was in fact closer but just not there, he needed something more to be able to overcome it but he would not be finding it anytime soon.

The following morning he woke up late and tried despite not having done anything, he went downstairs.
