Cassie stood by the door clutching her teddy bear,Maxie tightly as she stared blindly at her parents. Their eyes were glued to the TV screen. Did they seriously not notice her presence or they just decided to ignore her?
"Mum, you're yet to read Maxie and I a bedtime story" Cassie said in her little soft voice.
Her mom paused and looked at her, her eyes were filled with so much spite. She didn't say a word, she just turned to face the TV screen.
"Mom?" Cassie called, tears forming in her eyes.
"Mom?" She called again but she got no answer. She clutched Maxie tighter than before and walked towards her parents. There was a little gap between her mom and her dad, it was the perfect space for her to fit herself into. She climbed up and sat in between them, her dad stood up and left immediately she sat down as though he was disgusted by her proximity to him. For some reason, it didn't bother her. She never had any close relationship with her dad anyway. A part of her didn't even see him as her biological father.
"Mom, dad has gone to the bedroom, you can now read Maxie and I a bedtime story!" She said with excitement written all over her face. Her mom stood up to leave but Cassie held her dress with teary eyes.
"Please don't leave me like daddy" She pleaded. Her mom turned and looked at her looking more spiteful than before.
"I hate you! Anytime I see you all I can feel is regret!" Her mom said without a single remorse. Her mom's words hurt her like a poisoned arrow. She slowly let go of her mom's dress trying hard not to cry. She watched her mom disappear into the dark passage, she stood up and hurriedly followed her. Her mom opened the door to her bedroom, Cassie could see her dad lying down on the bed, he was already fast asleep. She waited for her mom to enter into the room and was about to follow suit when her mom shut the door in her face. Cassie fell to the floor. She wasn't sure of what she was feeling. Pain? Anger? Frustration? All? Suddenly, she could feel herself breathing rapidly in a way she couldn't control. Her body became boiling hot. She looked at her hand. Her nails! There grew longer and became curved and really sharp.
"Mom?" She called praying silently for an answer. She couldn't understand what was happening to her. The door opened, her mom screamed in fright when she saw her.
"Mom, I don't know what is happening to me" she said slowly getting up from the floor.
"Stay away from me!" Her mom screamed as she (Cassie) tried to get close to her.
"Mom... But...I don't feel so good" Cassie pleaded and took a step forward.
"I said to stay away!" Her mom shouted and pushed her to the wall. Mrs. Olsen ran into into the room and started tapping her husband so he could wake up.
"What's the matter Maria?" He asked, his eyes closely shutting.
"You have to wake up! She's turning! She was supposed to turn when she reaches 16 but she's only 12!" Maria panicked. Mr. Olsen immediately stood up.
"What?! Why?! Whe have to call the school. They have to come and get her!".
"Oh where's my phone?!" Mrs. Olsen asked as she started looking for her phone in the cupboard.
"I can't find mine, use yours" she said to her husband but she got no reply.
"James?" She turned her back and to her utter terror, she saw her husband lying in a pool of his own blood, Cassie was on top of him tearing him to pieces.
"Cassie! Stop!" She screamed and pulled her away from him. She knelt down beside her husband's corpse, tears dropped from her eyes. Cassie stood and watched, she couldn't understand what was happening. She could only see red and she had this persistent urge to kill. She approached her mom, her eyes dark red.
"Cassie! Please no! I'm your mom, please!" Mrs. Olsen begged continuously for her life. Cassie smiled, her mom's pleading only seemed to trigger her more. She rushed towards her mom and bit off a large chunk of skin from her neck. She watched as her mom fell to the floor, blood gushing out of her neck. She felt this odd satisfaction and had a big smile on her face but it slowly turned to disgust then tears started trickling down her cheeks she stared at her parents dead bodies in shock.
"What just happened?" She thought to herself. She looked at her hands again but this time there were soaked with blood. She panicked and rushed to the wardrobe. She took out her mom's phone and dialed "911".
"911, what's your emergency?".
"Help! My mom, my daddy, they need... They're dead".
"Dead? Is there any other person around?".
Cassie paused, she wasn't sure of how to answer the question. If she said "yes" she'll probably be a suspect.
"Hello? Are you still there?".
"Yes... Someone broke into our house and killed mom and daddy".
"Someone? Are you hurt?".
"No".
"What's your address so that we can send help?"
"318 Lavender street" she said and hung up. Her heart was beating fast. She rushed to where her parents body were and started tapping them like they were only asleep. She heard the sound of police sirens and rushed to open the front door. She watched as her parents body were brought out. She felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned to see a female police officer.
"Cassandra Olsen?".
"Yes, officer".
"You said someone broke in and killed your parents. Do you think you can describe him for me?".
"Uh... He was wearing a yellow hoodie and a black mask, I couldn't see his face. So sorry officer".
"Okay... How come you're not hurt?". She asked after jotting down somethings.
"I'm not sure he saw me, my mom hid me in the closet when she heard the front door open".
"You're one lucky kiddo" The officer said and gave her a comforting pat on her back.
"We should probably call child services" Her colleague said to her. She nodded and they left together. Cassie stood by the door slowly waving at them as they left.
