Being subjected to hostility was anticipated, and Ajax and Lady Deathstrike didn't explode in anger. In their view, it was just jealousy from ordinary soldiers towards them. Ajax even stuck out his tongue and licked the blade of his axe.
Idiots, this is Daisy's assessment of them.
Stryker had made a mistake. If the two of them shone brightly in the upcoming battle, then the Department of Defense would certainly be afraid of the power in his hands. Conversely, if they couldn't even defeat Abomination despite the large funds thrown into it, then what was the point?
Stryker stared straight ahead, as if he didn't see the confrontation between the soldiers and his subordinates.
Daisy didn't provoke them either. She took out her phone and played a game...
As she played, she heard Stryker calling her.
Stryker looked at Daisy with interest. "Miss Johnson, you have a strong scientific spirit. Being a field agent seems a bit beneath you. Have you ever thought about entering the scientific research field?"
Daisy smiled at the recruitment attempt. She couldn't be bothered to figure out whether he was trying to sow discord or had ulterior motives. She replied with a famous quote from Stark, "You can't afford me."
It was a joke. How much money did SHIELD have, and how much did your crappy Weapon-X program have? They were not on the same level at all. Was she going to spend her days torturing children in their Weapon-X program?
She flatly rejected the recruitment attempt, and the soldiers on the plane, including Stryker, were not surprised.
Agents could rise to prominence, as Secretary Gates of the Department of Defense was a good example, transitioning from the CIA to the Department of Defense. Daisy could replicate this process. However, being involved in human experimentation would ruin her reputation irreparably. It was the kind of stigma that couldn't be washed away. From then on, she wouldn't be able to show her face in public. Under normal circumstances, most people wouldn't choose this path.
Their conversation was just a small episode. The plane soon landed, and a small team of Delta Force was dispatched to capture Big Brain, while the rest of the troops followed the blood trails and satellite positioning to chase after Abomination.
They caught up with the Abomination 30 minutes after the bombing ended. Ajax rushed ahead first.
Abomination was in a bad state at this moment, with one arm hanging limp at his side. His recovery ability was not as good as the Hulk's. Relying solely on the Super Soldier Serum and his congenital deficiencies, it was difficult for him to complete physical repairs in a short time.
"Die!" Ajax, who had been holding in his anger since entering the Pentagon, finally found an opportunity to fight. He gripped his adamantium battle axe with both hands and swung it down without any fancy moves.
Lady Deathstrike was like a metallic whirlwind, her five claws acting like five daggers aimed at Abomination's eyes.
The battle instantly became heated. If Abomination was in good condition then dealing with two people wasn't difficult, at least dealing with someone like Ajax, who was agile but had thin skin and little substance, wasn't a problem.
But now, he was struggling, relying more on experience to deal with the two of them.
"Get away!" Using his severely injured arm forcibly, Abomination clapped his palms together forcefully, generating a massive airflow that sent Ajax flying and momentarily stunned Lady Deathstrike.
Abomination pushed Ajax and Lady Deathstrike aside, preparing to flee.
What greeted him was thunderous gunfire. The marksmanship of the Delta Force soldiers was precise. They aimed their firearms at Abomination's head, knowing that his weak points were his eyes and mouth, and opened fire.
Daisy and Nick Fury also stayed far away, assisting with handguns. Regardless of whether their attacks penetrated Abomination's defenses, they at least maintained the appearance of assistance. Daisy then noticed that Stryker was also "assisting" with a handgun in another direction.
The three of them were leisurely, while Ajax and Lady Deathstrike re-engaged with Abomination. The Delta Force soldiers were of little help in this supernatural battle. They could only launch some rockets to intercept Abomination when he attempted to flee.
Daisy knew Delta Force well, and as a former elite soldier, Abomination naturally knew them too. With his strength, wiping out these over a hundred soldiers would be no problem. However, Ajax and Lady Deathstrike kept attacking him relentlessly, occasionally delivering heavy blows with their adamantium weapons, which made him somewhat embarrassed.
The two of them had rich combat experience and were more scheming.
Ajax hadn't used his maximum speed yet, and Lady Deathstrike hadn't revealed the fact that she had reinforced bones and muscles.
They were both waiting for an opportunity.
"Get lost!" Abomination's intense cruelty couldn't be resolved. He reached out and grabbed a soldier, tearing him in half with one hand on his head and the other on his foot, spilling blood and guts all over. When he went to grab the next soldier, Lady Deathstrike stood in his way.
Without thinking, he raised his hand and threw a punch.
He expected the other party to dodge, but he didn't expect Lady Deathstrike, who seemed petite and delicate, to take his punch head-on and then punch five holes in his stomach with her nails.
Caught off guard, Abomination was then struck heavily in the neck by Ajax's axe, blood spattering everywhere, causing him to lose a significant amount of strength and be at a disadvantage.
Daisy and Nick Fury occasionally fired their guns and spent the rest of the time chatting, talking about things that had nothing to do with the battle in front of them.
"I heard you know Johnny Storm, the Human Torch?"
Daisy didn't understand why Fury was asking this question but still took two shots at Abomination from afar. "Yes, what's up?"
"Do you know the original Human Torch?"
Daisy thought for a moment. The original Human Torch had participated in World War II, and there were a couple of sentences about him in the textbooks, which she should know about. She nodded, indicating that she knew.
Nick Fury also fired two shots into the distance. Although they were goofing off, their marksmanship was top-notch, much better than Stryker, who almost hit Ajax.
He took out his phone and showed Daisy a picture. It was a disheveled middle-aged man, who looked very shabby.
He then explained, "This is Namor, a mutant who participated in World War II. He had a major conflict with the original Human Torch. Some agents recently saw him in New York, and I suspect he may pose a threat to Johnny."
Feeling that his explanation might not be clear enough, Daisy didn't pay much attention. However, Nick Fury revealed some secrets. "Namor comes from the sea, according to Captain America's account. He is said to be from the legendary Atlantis, and even after seventy years, his appearance hasn't changed much. However, it seems his mind is troubled, and he has been wandering along the coast for a long time."
Seeing Nick Fury confide these secrets to her, Daisy knew that they had started to build some trust. In the comics, Daisy Johnson and Nick Fury had a somewhat father-daughter relationship, belonging to the type of people who naturally got along well with each other.
They weren't at that level yet, but they had laid some groundwork.
Looking at Namor's picture, Daisy groaned and muttered "Atlantis" softly, as if digesting this somewhat world-view-shattering news.
"You can just keep an eye on this matter. If they haven't started fighting, there's no need to get involved."
"Okay, got it." In order not to affect the mutual trust between the two sides, she could only accept this somewhat troublesome task.
