Chapter 194 - Samuel Stern

The young man's restlessness was barely concealed, as if he were ready to pick a fight with anyone at any moment, but was holding back with sheer willpower.

Clearly recognizing her, he threw her a provocative look, and Daisy responded with a hint of sarcasm, "You stole my research data. Shouldn't you give me an explanation?"

The young man raised his eyebrows and was about to retort, but Colonel Stryker timely intervened, causing him to swallow his words. "Miss Johnson's insights into gene optimization for metabolism are quite insightful and have given us many ideas. On behalf of Ajax, I apologize to you. He meant no harm; he was just anxious about the lack of progress in my experiment."

Though Stryker verbally apologized, his tone was very indifferent, showing little sincerity. However, Daisy didn't pursue it further and simply hmphed, letting it go.

The Asian woman behind Stryker was even more cold, almost like a robot. She grabbed Ajax, and the five of them walked into the building, clearly drawing their respective sides.

Daisy speculated about the identities of the several people. William Stryker was a well-known figure. Ajax possessed superhuman reflexes and was impervious to pain. He also had some knowledge of scientific technology and took over the leadership of the project after Stryker's death. His greatest achievement should be experimenting on Wade Wilson, who was suffering from cancer, and eventually became Deadpool.

The Asian woman had a slender figure. She was likely Lady Deathstrike, possessing the same abilities as Wolverine.

Nick Fury brought Daisy along for emergencies or escape purposes. Stryker brought two powerful mutants, indicating that he also feared hidden threats within the Pentagon.

Tee! Tuu!

As Ajax and Lady Deathstrike passed through a technologically advanced detection gate, an alarm sounded.

Stryker hastily negotiated with the guards, but they remained determined and refused to allow them to pass. Stryker couldn't just start a bloodbath in the Pentagon, his face darkened, and he ordered his men to wait outside.

The three entered a heavily guarded conference room, where several generals were seated. Daisy recognized a few of them, feeling a bit stunned. She had expected a task from the Secretary of Defense, not a meeting of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The current Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, sat in the center of the room. He gestured for them to take their seats. Daisy had read up on the Secretary's background. He had started from the bottom in the CIA and worked his way up to become the director of the CIA. He then joined the Department of Defense and was nominated by the current president as Secretary of Defense.

SHIELD has a favorable impression of him.

Compared to the previous Secretary of Defense, Rumsfeld, who was only focused on killing, Robert was much more rational and could analyze problems from multiple angles. Overall, he was a competent Secretary of Defense.

The meeting had already been going on for some time. To include SHIELD and the Weapon-X Program, Secretary Gates explained the situation again.

"The Department of Defense tracked the network information of the Hulk to an individual named Mr. Blue," the former agent Secretary pointed to the screen. "Dr. Samuel Sterns, a PhD in cell biology at Grayburn College, New York State University."

A middle-aged man appeared on the screen, with a long face and a hooked nose, but nothing particularly remarkable, appearing as just an ordinary scholar.

"Dr. Sterns injected himself with Hulk's blood yesterday evening, as seen in the footage we collected from the lab," the Secretary continued, opening another video segment.

The footage was blurry and seemed to be disrupted by something, but it showed Sterns injecting himself with the Hulk's blood. Subsequently, his head mutated, his forehead becoming larger and taller until, amid Sterns's cries of agony, his head doubled in size, and his skin turned green.

"It seems Dr. Sterns has gained some sort of psychic ability. Thirty minutes ago, he walked into the Department of Defense and rescued Blonsky, while our soldiers seemed not to have noticed him at all."

In the video, Sterns leisurely strolled into the Pentagon, passing by numerous guards without anyone noticing him. It wasn't until ten minutes after he had rescued Blonsky that the guards checked the surveillance footage and realized someone had silently wandered through the building.

The situation was terrifying, leaving many of the generals shocked. They hastily convened this meeting and called in SHIELD and Stryker together to discuss how to handle the situation.

The Department of Defense requested a joint operation with SHIELD and the X-Weapon Program to apprehend the psychic.

Since the two sides were not under the same chain of command, this operation was contractual. They relinquished the previous demand for the $5.5 billion and left it entirely to SHIELD's discretion. At the same time, assisted in the weaponization modifications of three helicarriers under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s command.

The conditions given to the X-Weapon Program were that the bodies of Samuel, codenamed "Big Brain," and Blonsky, codenamed "Abomination," would be made available for research.

"That's the situation. Do any of you have any further thoughts?" Secretary Gates quickly concluded.

The capture of a psychic was a big deal for both Nick Fury and Stryker. They had too many secrets in their mind to risk being controlled.

Nick Fury turned to Daisy, silently asking if she had any good ideas. Whether it was her fancy gadgets or cute dogs, Nick felt confident that he could handle it.

However, nothing in life is absolute, and Daisy couldn't guarantee that her Kun-Lun ring would completely protect her from psychic control. She wasn't keen on participating in this mission.

In order to avoid facing the psychic directly, she began to think of a solution.

Daisy recognized several of the generals in the meeting room, having had meals with a couple of them. She wasn't nervous at all. After quickly double-checking, she confirmed there wouldn't be any major mistakes and spoke up.

"Mr. Secretary and esteemed generals, I can develop an algorithm to remotely locate and strike them."

Knowing that these old generals were clueless about computers, she succinctly continued, "Using traditional methods to search would be inefficient, but the Hulk's blood contains an excessive amount of gamma radiation, making it easy to locate. I'll need to utilize military satellites to search for gamma radiation emissions along the East Coast. Then, we can launch missiles to eliminate them!" She said this with ease.

Having dealt with Daisy a few times before, Lieutenant General Greene, formerly the commanding officer at Camp Kandahar in Afghanistan and now the head of the National Guard Bureau back at the Department of Defense, looked at the others for affirmation before asking, "Of course that can be done. But what about this algorithm?"

"I'll write one on the spot!"

Her words, like she was going to "make something up" on the spot made some of the generals skeptical, but Secretary Gates appreciated her decisiveness. If she could solve it on the spot, it would save them a lot of trouble.

He signaled for one of his aides to bring Daisy a laptop for her to write the algorithm on the spot.
